xfonts-encodings override disparity

2010-11-17 Thread Debian FTP Masters
There are disparities between your recently accepted upload and the
override file for the following file(s):

xfonts-encodings_1.0.4-1_all.deb: package says section is x11, override says
fonts.

Please note that a list of new sections were recently added to the
archive: cli-mono, database, debug, fonts, gnu-r, gnustep, haskell,
httpd, java, kernel, lisp, localization, ocaml, php, ruby, vcs, video,
xfce, zope. At this time a script was used to reclassify packages into
these sections. If this is the case, please only reply to this email if
the new section is inappropriate, otherwise please update your package
at the next upload.

Either the package or the override file is incorrect. If you think
the override is correct and the package wrong please fix the package
so that this disparity is fixed in the next upload. If you feel the
override is incorrect then please file a bug against ftp.debian.org and
explain why. Please INCLUDE the list of packages as seen above, or we
won't be able to deal with your request due to missing information.

Please make sure that the subject of the bug you file follows the
following format:

Subject: override: BINARY1:section/priority, [...], BINARYX:section/priority

Include the justification for the change in the body of the mail please.

[NB: this is an automatically generated mail; if you already filed a bug
and have not received a response yet, please ignore this mail. Your bug
needs to be processed by a human and will be in due course, but until
then the installer will send these automated mails; sorry.]

Bug#603808: xterm: reverseVideo resource inverts reverse video logic instead of setting the default

2010-11-17 Thread Sascha Silbe
Package: xterm
Version: 261-1
Severity: normal

The reverseVideo X resource and the +rv/-rv command line options affect the
reverse video feature in strange ways.
It seems to get inverted rather than set, though even that doesn't explain why
there is a mark for the menu option if the reverseVideo resource is true and no
CLI option is given, but no mark in all other cases.

This is what happens:

resourceCLI menuresult
--
false Markwhite bg, black fg (false)
false No mark (default) black bg, white fg (true)
false +rv Markwhite bg, black fg (false)
false +rv No mark (default) black bg, white fg (true)
false -rv Markblack bg, white fg (true)
false -rv No mark (default) white bg, black fg (false)
trueMark (default) black bg, white fg (true)
trueNo mark white bg, black fg (false)
true+rv Markwhite bg, black fg (false)
true+rv No mark (default) black bg, white fg (true)
true-rv Markblack bg, white fg (true)
true-rv No mark (default) white bg, black fg (false)

This is what I would have expected:

resourceCLI menuresult
--
false Markblack bg, white fg (true)
false No mark (default) white bg, black fg (false)
false +rv Markblack bg, white fg (true)
false +rv No mark (default) white bg, black fg (false)
false -rv Mark (default) black bg, white fg (true)
false -rv No mark white bg, black fg (false)
trueMark (default) black bg, white fg (true)
trueNo mark white bg, black fg (false)
true+rv Markblack bg, white fg (true)
true+rv No mark (default) white bg, black fg (false)
true-rv Mark (default) black bg, white fg (true)
true-rv No mark white bg, black fg (false)

In words:
1. A mark in the menu should always correspond with reversed video (i.e. black
background, white foreground).
2. The reverseVideo resource should set the default value for the menu option.
3. The -rv/+rv CLI options if given should set the default value for the menu
option, overriding the reverseVideo resource.

I've seen EDID stuff on this bug [1], but the EDID data came from
intel's kernel driver, after looking further, there is the read-edid
package that provide some EDID tools, you can run
`get-edid | parse-edid' as root to read the EDID information.
Well, if you still have the screen...

Anyway, this bug is 3 years old now, and if your screen really don't
have DPMS support, there is no way `xset dpms force ???' will work.

On my computer, with vesa driver I tried the 4 options and all work, but
my /var/log/Xorg.0.log file says:
[...]
(II) VESA(0): EDID Version: 1.3
(II) VESA(0): Analog Display Input, Input Voltage Level: 0.700/0.300 V
(II) VESA(0): Sync: Separate Composite SyncOnGreen
(II) VESA(0): Max H-Image Size [cm]: horiz.: 38 vert.: 30
(II) VESA(0): Gamma: 2.20
(II) VESA(0): DPMS capabilities: StandBy Suspend Off; RGB/Color Display
[...]

May I close this bug ?

There is now a different upstream fix for this in master
(commit 33c08882c0d from Keith Packard) which also works for me. I don't know
whether you'd prefer to use that one, or the reversion I suggested.

http://git.debian.org/?p=users/smcv/xserver-xorg-video-intel.git
(the upstream fix applied as a patch instead) certainly works with my current
kernel, which is 2.6.32-27 for amd64.

Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.0.22
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,

I have found that if I plug out the USB mouse and restart the system the
X server will not start unless th mouse is attached. Removing the mouse
after the server has started has no ill effects.

Although currently there are almost no systems without a mouse, it
shouldn't be a requiremnt for the X server to start.

Bug#309226: xnest: crashes when window is shaded or a different virtual desktop is selected

2010-11-17 Thread Julien Viard de Galbert
Hello,

About 5 to 3 years ago, you participated on a thread about xnest
crashing when minimizing or switching desktop.

I tested this with both gnome and fluxbox as host environment to run
Xnest with current sid and cound not reproduce the issue.
I'm using xnest version 2:1.7.7-9

So I'm planning to close this bug, but I would like some feedback first.

Can you tell me if the bug is fixed for you ?

Best Regards,

Patch for regression in -video-intel_2.13.901

2010-11-17 Thread Jason D. Clinton
Hi;

With guidance from upstream in #intel-gfx on Freenode, we were able to track
down a regression in 2.13.901 which makes it impossible to use GNOME Shell
on some Intel hardware. The issue is related to delivery of timer
interrupts.

Fedora's Adam Jackson tracked it down and disabled page flipping until the
problem is resolved:

http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=205059

The patch is in this:

http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/packages/xorg-x11-drv-intel/2.13.901/2.fc15/src/xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.13.901-2.fc15.src.rpm

Jesse Barnes recommended that Debian use the same patch until upstream can
track down and fix the problem properly.

I have rebuilt the Debian package with the patch and confirmed it does work
around the problem.

When I run `xset dpms force ???', where ??? is standby, suspend, off, or
on, nothing happens. Here's the lines from /var/log/Xorg.0.log that
contain "DPMS":
