I suppose so, although only kms drivers will work properly in that scenario.

Looks like the crash is in the X driver, reassigning. Please try and get

There is xserver-xorg-core-dbg but no documentation on using that
package I could find. The X server binary has no symbols so there is no
backtrace whatsoever that can be received with gdb.

This package provides debugging symbols for the Xorg X server and associated
 modules.

You just need to install this and you'll have Xserver symbols.
Add xserver-xorg-video-radeon-dbg for radeon driver symbols.

I have this package installed along with the packages for the radeon

Still no symbols when I attach to X server.

Does gdb say anything about why it can't get the symbols?

Without ~/.fvwm/ I get the standard terminal icon for "xterm -ai".
So I assume the no icon problem is caused by my custom configuration.
But with "xterm +ai" I still get an icon as big as the iconified
xterm's window.

Hi Paul,

some suggestions:
 - can you try out 2.12 from experimental?
 - can you try to fetch Xorg.log's last lines and kernel logs when the
problem happens (probably by ssh-ing from another machine)?

Was 2.9 working for you?

It'd be nice if you could file a bug upstream:

Hi,

I do experience random X lockups several times in a two or three hours.
The mouse moves, but no other updates take place at all (e.g. xclock
not changing). No key events seem to be processed, allthough its not clear
whether they are not processed or their processing is not shown.

login from a different system via ssh works.

Interestingly "halt" or "shutdown -h now" does not work, I need to switch
the system off.

It does not happen using kernel 2.6.26-2 and the backtrace below points
to a system call rather than an X problem.

Anything else I can do?
Erich

Bug#591265: xterm: active icon is too big

Without ~/.fvwm/ I get the standard terminal icon for "xterm -ai".
So I assume the no icon problem is caused by my custom configuration.
But with "xterm +ai" I still get an icon as big as the iconified
xterm's window.

thanks - I tried that, but don't see yet the pattern. The first time
I tried that (moved my ~/.fvwm aside and restarted fvwm), I got the big
window. Once. After that, I got every xterm launched from the command
line showing a normal icon window.

However, I do see slightly more consistent comparison between using +ai
explicitly and no option at all. The latter gives just the title, while
the option gives the active icon - for all versions of xterm. That makes
it sound as if the problem isn't in xterm - but I'm thinking that I may

be able to see some clues in a debugging trace.

Bug#580980: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: pink tinted translucent windows on Mobility 7500 M7 LW [rv200]

I already tested a clean setup in the past; tried again today: booted
with current 2.6.32-5-686 stock Debian kernel, with no options, and made
Xorg start _without_ any xorg.conf.

Again, a 1px horizontal white stripe on the bottom of the screen
appeared as soon as the radeondrmfb module got loaded; after entering a
KDE session, activating the translucency effect produced as usual pink
tinted translucent windows.

But I recently made an interesting find: translucency in compiz fusion
(in KDE, by previously disabling plasma desktop effects) works
perfectly, and also gives the overall impression of a fairly better
responding graphics. What's so different there?

Thanks

Mau

config: move compiler flags from configure.ac to Makefile.am

CFLAGS is an automake defined variable that should not be set
by the module. It should not be AC_SUBST either, it already is.

Use AM_CFLAGS in Makefile.am. This will allow the user to override
the flags as they will be in the right order.

-Information for Rendition (Micron) Verité Users
-The XFree86 Project Inc.
-9 June 2000, last update by Dejan Ilic "dejan.i...@home.se"
-
-
-
-Supported hardware
-All cards based on the V1000 or the V2x00 should be supported. The server
-was tested on a miroCRYSTAL VRX (V1000), Intergraph Intense-100 3D (V1000),
Diamond Stealth II S220 (V2100), Hercules Thriller3D (V2200), Innovision
Warrior3D (V2200) and Genoa V-Raptor (v2200).
-
-Limitations
-V1000 cards can only work as primary display card due to hardware limitations.

-V2x00 cards can work even if not primary, but primary display card will be
disabled when server is run. This is a driver limitation.
-Hopefully these limitations were worked around and fixed before final XFree86
4.0 release.
-
-Important notices
-Some V1000-based video cards are known to lock up the computer if you have
write-combine activated. Disabling it removes the problem. Look for settings in
the motherboards BIOS and disable ALL settings that has to do with
write-combine (usually called USWC or just WC for short).
-
-15 bits per pixel is only supported on V1000-based cards due to hardware
limitations on V2x00 chipsets.
-
-If you have problems with hardware cursor use the "sw_cursor" option to revert
back to software cursor.
-
-This is essentially a port of XFree86 3.3.x driver to the new XFree86
-4.0 API, and thus we have put most of effort in making a working driver
-with the most basic features. Support for multi-head support and
-acceleration are next on the list of features to be included.
-
-Features
-
-Hardware acceleration
-Hardware cursor
-Supported color depths
-
-8 bits per pixel (256 pseudo colour)
-15 bits per pixel (actually 16-bits with RGB-weight 555, 32768 colors)
-16 bits per pixel (high colour, RGB-weight 565, 65536 colors)
-32 bits per pixel (true colour, sparse 24bit, 16M colors)
-
-
-
-xorg.conf Option
-
-Option "SW_Cursor"
-Disables use of the hardware cursor.
-Option "Overclock_Mem"
-Run the memory at a higher clock. Useful on some cards with display glitches
-at higher resolutions. But adds the risk to damage the hardware. Use with
-caution.
-DacSpeed "MHz"
-Set custom ramdac limit. We have currently no way of knowing if the v2x00 chip
is a v2100 (170MHz) or v2200 (203MHz and 230MHz) so we assume the lowest. Use
this option to manually override the value.
-Option "FramebufferWC"
-If writecombine is disabled in BIOS, and you add this option in configuration
file, then the driver will try to request writecombined access to the
framebuffer. This can drastically increase the performance on unaccelerated
server. Requires that "MTRR"-support is compiled into the OS-kernel.
-Option "NoDDC"
-Disable probing of DDC-information from your monitor. This information is
-not used yet and is only there for informational purposes. This might
-have changed before final XFree86 4.0 release. Safe to disable if you
experience
-problems during startup of X-server.
-Option "ShadowFB"
-If this option is enabled, the driver will cause the CPU to do each drawing
-operation first into a shadow frame
