Sometimes the outputs exist internally but they have no external plug. I
don't know if the driver could find that out. At least it's not saying
that they are connected :)

Could you send the output of the following command?
/usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg-video-intel/script 3>&1

It would also be nice if you could try with a standard Debian kernel
instead of your own built one.

With kms the X driver just reports what the kernel tells it, so
reassigning to linux-2.6. And downgrading since this is purely
cosmetic.

No. But I've done some research in upstream's bugzilla and found the
above bugreport. The symptoms are the same as mentioned in
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24503#c2: XBell() does not
work, while XkbBell() does. Unfortunately, xterm seems to use the
former.

Bug#564219: xserver-xorg-core: xorg uses appletouch by default

2010-01-08 Thread Salvo Tomaselli
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.7.3.902-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Xorg is using appletouch as mouse (without being configured to do so) so
instead of using my nice and normal touchpad,
to move the pointer i have to lift my laptop and move it around.
If i don't do that the pointer will try to stay in the center of the screen all
the time.
I think it is a very very annoying thing so i suggest to disable this stupid
behavior by default.

Thanks

The applemsc stuff is a kernel module that enables various apple hardware
including accelerometer. It is in /dev/js0
Xorg is using it by default as pointer. So every little movement of the table
makes the pointer to go in the center of the screen.
Ubuntu forums say to do rmmmod applesmc. But this is very stupid in my
opinion. And it won't even work for me because i use my compiled kernel
without modules

appletouch is just my picking up the wrong log line :-D

I'd really prefer not to do that. Configuring stuff in hal or udev is
just a stopgap until X grows a way to handle hotplugged devices in
xorg.conf (which will happen with xserver 1.8), so I think we shouldn't
recommend/document this as the way to go. Plus we have tools and
protocol for runtime configuration anyway.

a description of the way things are going)

I used a hal fdi file as per the previous recommendations. Which I see
still are in the docs. This needs to be fixed and some note about udev
rules should be added to NEWS.

Right after sending the bug report, I realized that this is just another
example of the hal => udev transition biting users. Could we please try
to make this transition as seemless as possible, attempting to keep any
prior configuration if possible?

I hacked up this, which probably can't be used directly, but should work
as an example of how to migrate configuration from hal to udev. It will
write a new udev rule file, which could be saved as
/etc/udev/rules.d/66-xorg-synaptics.rules to override the system default:

#!/usr/bin/perl

use strict;
use warnings;
use Net::DBus;

# hardcoded filename
my $baserule = '/lib/udev/rules.d/66-xorg-synaptics.rules';

# regex telling us after which statement we'd like to insert the options
my $optionsplit = qr/^ENV\{x11_driver\}/;

# read the system rule file

my $ra = \...@before;
while () {
push(@$ra, $_);
$ra = \...@after if /$optionsplit/;
}
close(F);

# connect to system bus
my $bus = Net::DBus->system;

# Get a handle to the HAL service
my $hal = $bus->get_service("org.freedesktop.Hal");

# Get the device manager
my $manager = $hal->get_object("/org/freedesktop/Hal/Manager",
"org.freedesktop.Hal.Manager");

my @migrated;
# Get a list of all touchpads
foreach my $dev (@{$manager->FindDeviceByCapability("input.touchpad")}) {
my $tp = $hal->get_object($dev, "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device");
my $props = $tp->GetAllProperties();

if (my @opts = grep { s/^input\.x11_options\.// } keys %$props) {
warn "Migrating device specific x11_options ", join(',', @opts)," for

Hehe. It's taken a while to get there, and I don't know if we can get
that ready for squeeze, but that's definitely an improvement over
storing X configuration in hal or udev.

OK. I agree that documenting this workaround should be avoided if it is
going to be temporary. It would just add to the confusion. I didn't
realize that using udev for storing config was just a stopgap. That
fact should probably go into the README.

Looks good! I've always fealt that this kind of configuration belonged
to the X server and had little to do with hal/udev. Adding the
necessary glue to allow a mix of auto-device discovery and xorg.conf
snippets sounds just like it was taken from my wishlist :-)

Should I do that reassignment?
I've been reading this: http://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-control#reassign and
this: http://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-refcard and what I understood is that I
should send a mail to cont...@bugs.debian.org with the commands reassign 564115
xserver-xorg-video-intel and thanks, one per line.
Is that correct?

Bug#564256: xorg-server: config_init() is called too early

2010-01-08 Thread Julien Cristau
Package: xorg-server
Version: 2:1.7.3.902-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

(reported by Sedat Dilek on IRC)

config_udev_init() calls NIDR, which enables devices, so they can start
sending events. But the event queue is not initialized before
InitInput(), so we crash:

Bug#564258: xserver-xorg-input-evdev: evdev on accelerometers is broken

2010-01-08 Thread Julien Cristau
Package: xserver-xorg-input-evdev
Version: 1:2.3.2-2
Severity: important

Apparently loading evdev on accelerometers results in a mouse cursor
stuck in the center of the screen. Not sure if we should somehow
blacklist these devices from the udev rules, or if the driver should be
smarter.

Cheers,
Julien

Peter, would you have any idea how to handle the above issue?

Martin, the kernel seems to assign a js (joystick?) handler to that

Bug#564283: libgl1-mesa-dri (7.7~rc2-1) depends on non existant package libdrm-radeon1 on i386

2010-01-08 Thread Jason Alasola
Package: libgl1-mesa-dri
Version: 7.7~rc2-1
Severity: normal

I'm having some problems with the r600 driver and Xorg which I believe would be
fixed by using mesa 7.7 however the 7.7 experimental package depends on a
libdrm-intel1 which doesn't exist anywhere. (Interestingly if I'm reading
things right it's only i386 that requires it.)

apt-get install -t experimental libgl1-mesa-dri
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  libgl1-mesa-dri: Depends: libdrm-radeon1 (>= 2.4.13) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

I'd imagine things would be a lower priority since this is an experimental
package but it would be awesome if things could be sorted so us i386 users
could try out mesa 7.7
