Bug#561565: compiz-fusion-plugins-main: Thumbnail (Taskbar window preview) crashes compiz on empty title

2009-12-18 Thread Klaus Knopper
Package: compiz-fusion-plugins-main
Version: 0.8.2-3
Severity: important

/usr/lib/compiz/libthumbnail.so supports showing the selected windows
preview in the taskbar of the desktop manager. If a window
has an empty title string, compiz crashes as soon as the thumbnail is
supposed to be shown when the mouse is put over the windows taskbar icon.

The crash does not appear if "Enable titles" is deactivated in the
plugins configuration, therefore its likely to be a string null pointer
problem.

Only if KMS is enabled, which shouldn't be the case by default. So I
think the severity and 'compatible' wording is slightly exaggerated.

You'd need to build an xf86-video-ati Git snapshot against
libdrm_radeon.

Eh .. yes, I have a "radeon.modeset=1" somewhere which dates from when I
tried to have KMS with my old r300, and which I forgot and left there.

Sorry,

Bug#551666: Same problem here, with bigger trouble

2009-12-18 Thread Frédéric Boiteux
Hello,

I've installed Debian Squeeze (testing) on my Eeepc 1002HA, with KMS
enabled, and tried to work in my current configuration, with an
external monitor plugged. When the GDM portal arises, I get a screen
with the common resolution of the both screens, integrated and
external, which is only 640x480 ! Going to a console and trying to
change this with xrandr doesn't work : I tried :

# env DISPLAY=:0 XAUTHORITY=/var/lib/gdm/\:0.Xauth xrandr --output VGA1 -- auto

gives an X error and resolution doesn't change on external monitor.

Moreover, if I start only with integrated monitor (in 1024x600), login on my
account and then plug my external monitor, I usually have a X freezed (with
mouse cursor also frozen) ! The system is always running, but X is
unkillable... Perhaps that the fact I'm using compiz has an impact on that.

I don't know how to workaround this, so for the moment, I've return to my
previous Lenny install…

FYI, the xrandr -q (on my current Lenny system) gives :

Thanks for responding. However I'm not sure I understand your reply.

My drm git configure command looks like this: './configure'
'--prefix=/usr' '--enable-udev' '--disable-intel'
'--disable-nouveau-experimental-api' '--enable-radeon-experimental-api'
'--with-kernel-source=/usr/src/linux' '--with-gnu-ld'

Then I do a make install.

And then I build the git xf86-video-radeon using:

./configure' '--prefix=/usr' '--enable-shared' '--enable-dri'
'--enable-kms' '--enable-exa'

But I still do not manage to have DRI enabled.

dmesg | grep drm

Hi,

thanks for maintaining Xorg!

As you'll know xserver-xorg-core depends on xserver-xorg and xserver-xorg
depends on xserver-xorg-core, which is called a circular dependency, which
sometimes breaks apt (not dpkg) in interesting ways.

See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=190558 for a quite good
discussion of the problem.

It also effects piuparts testing, as you can see
http://piuparts.debian.org/sid/state-circular-dependency.html - piuparts
only tests packages which dependecies were successfully tested and well, for
circular dependencies this will never happen.

Whats wrong with making xserver-xorg depend on xserver-xorg-core and making
xserver-org-core only recommend xserver-org? (I do the same with the tuxtype
and tuxtype-data packages, and tuxtype-data is also basically useless without
tuxtype. You could look at the images, yeah ;-)

(Actually I'm not sure this last paragraph (copied from a similar bug) applies
here. From the package names it sounds as if xserver-xorg-core shouldnt
recommend xserver-xorg at all even.)

regards,
Holger

Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.1.0-5
Severity: normal

The package xserver-xorg has a circular dependency with
xserver-xorg-core. The package does nothing for me and will only do
something once anyway (generate an X config). Would you consider moving
the only file in this package to xserver-xorg-core and making
xserver-xorg-core provide the package name xserver-xorg?

After upgrading to Xorg, I cannot start X and the errors in the logs are not
very helpful. I am attaching my xorg.conf and log output but if I can
provide any further detail, do let me know. This system is an Intel DG45
mainboard connected to an LCD television. No keyboard or mouse is installed
and control is via LIRC.
