X treats it as an extra keyboard, with unpleasant side-effects to applications, eg it prevents inputlirc from seeing events for remote keys with keyboard equivalents, eg the numbers, while another application which responds to both the keyboard and input devices gets two copies of each of these events. I've tried to disable it both by setting up an InputDevice section specifically for the remote with SendCoreEvents disabled, and by adding a ServerLayout section which should only respond to the core keyboard and not auto-detect other input devices, but neither of these sections make any difference. -- Package-specific info: Contents of /var/lib/x11/X.roster: xserver-xorg /var/lib/x11/X.md5sum does not exist. Bug#509307: xbacklight: -set does nothing if it thinks the setting is already correct
On Sun, 1 Feb 2009, Brice Goglin wrote: Reuben Thomas wrote: Package: xbacklight Severity: normal xbacklight -set sometimes has no effect. For example, when I suspend and resume my laptop, the backlight is reset to 100%, but is still reported as whatever I set it to before. xbacklight seems to do nothing if I try to set it to the same value; instead, I must first set it to a different value. It may be a bug in the driver. If the driver doesn't reset its backlight value on suspend/resume, xbacklight will read a wrong value from it, and thus do nothing if the set the same value. Did you actually ever observe the bug when not resuming from suspend? No. I'm not sure how I would set up an equivalent circumstance, i.e. change the backlight without running xbacklight. For example, the Fn keys for changing the brightness on my Samsung NC-10 do not currently work. Bug#509307: xbacklight: -set does nothing if it thinks the setting is already correct
Reuben Thomas wrote: > Package: xbacklight > Severity: normal > > xbacklight -set sometimes has no effect. If the driver doesn't reset its backlight value on suspend/resume, xbacklight will read a wrong value from it, and thus do nothing if the set the same value. Did you actually ever observe the bug when not resuming from suspend? Which driver do you use? Can you try the latest driver from experimental and a recent kernel? It can be dangerous. This patch is based on the previous one when r128 was in xf86-video-ati. The problem is that if gR128EntityIndex is not explicitly marked as a public symbol, and weird things may happen when compiling with hidden symbols. Since the symbol is in the same shared binary of its callers, just use it, instead of using LoaderSymbol. Could also just replace calls getR128EntityIndex() to direct access to gR128EntityIndex. diff --git a/src/r128_driver.c b/src/r128_driver.c index 0e693e0..2eb9d26 100644 --- a/src/r128_driver.c +++ b/src/r128_driver.c @@ -192,13 +192,11 @@ R128RAMRec R128RAM[] = {/* Memory Specifications { 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 3, 1, 16, 12, "64-bit DDR SGRAM" }, }; +extern _X_EXPORT int gR128EntityIndex; + int getR128EntityIndex(void) { -int *r128_entity_index = LoaderSymbol("gR128EntityIndex"); -if (!r128_entity_index) -return -1; -else -return *r128_entity_index; +return gR128EntityIndex; } R128EntPtr R128EntPriv(ScrnInfoPtr pScrn) diff --git a/src/r128_probe.c b/src/r128_probe.c index b1f427a..bfec1eb 100644 --- a/src/r128_probe.c +++ b/src/r128_probe.c @@ -208,7 +208,7 @@ static const struct pci_id_match r128_device_match[] = { #endif /* XSERVER_LIBPCIACCESS */ -int gR128EntityIndex = -1; +_X_EXPORT int gR128EntityIndex = -1; /* Return the options for supported chipset 'n'; NULL otherwise */ static const OptionInfoRec * -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". I remember seeing xdm not start X correctly, but I think it was somehow-related to the previous session not ending correctly, and maybe the pid file not being cleaned up or so. If you switch back from kdm to xdm, reboot, let xdm fail, and run /etc/init.d/xdm restart. Does it say anything about while it fails? Also, when the freeze occurs, can you ping the machine? If so, can you ssh and run gdb to find out what the server is doing? Juliusz --- Begin Message --- Dear all, After my recent adventures with Radeon, XAA and EXA, I've come to the conclusion that setting MigrationHeuristic to greedy drastically helps performance of Firefox redraws on both Radeon and i965GM hardware. By drastically, I mean it -- a redraw of a full-screen Firefox goes from 3 to 5 seconds (!) down to a fraction of a second. Now I haven't read the sources of Firefox (let him who has cast me the first stone), but I believe that Firefox performs client-side backing store using absolutely humonguous pixmaps. While we may argue that what Firefox does is stupid, I think we should try to support this kind of usage. Isn't the default value of MigrationHeuristic incorrect ? Should we switch to greedy as default ? (Julien tells me that he believes that Ubuntu have already made the switch.)
