Basically, on hurd-i386, the Device should always be "/dev/mouse" and the Protocol be "osmouse". ZAxisMapping should not be set, Emulate3Buttons can be, depending on debconf. Unfortunately, I'm no debconf wizard, so I hope the changes are not overly complex and could be done relatively easily. It would be nice if X would run out-of-the-box on hurd-i386. Thanks, Michael set-up: etch, gnome (eg gnome-core 2.14.3.6), metacity 2.14.5-4 and Dell/Logitech USB optical mouse (seems to work fine in WinXP), with nVidia graphics card/TwinView and 2 monitors (diff resolutions) symptoms (occasional and not sure how to repeat) a) double clicking won't select anything b) in evolution, clicking on a new message or folder has no effect c) the cursor (arrowhead) disappears - if I set prefs to show cursor by depressing 'CNTL' I get the moving rectangles but there's no cursor there) d) focus doesn't move to new window (as it should and usually does) I think the following is also a symptom but not 100% sure: e) doing ALT-TAB to move between windows does nothing on very first ALT-TAB If it's the keyboard that's failed then using I also cannot get Gnome menus (it selects the top level but nothing is shown) but can use the mouse to open more new app/windows and then at some pt the keyboard seems to be 'reset' such that it starts working again. I've tried KDE and that also has the keyboard not responding (eg if I try to switch desktops quickly then the keyboard stops responding) - opening the control centre and changing options in there appears to 'reset' the keyboard. Any thoughts either on what's going on or how to debug it to narrow down the issues? I've asked on the Debian mailing list but am still stuck. I've had this line in my xorg.conf re Mouse device: Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2" although it's a USB mouse I'm using, but commenting it out I still see the same issues When the kyb "freezes" it is still alive since /dev/input/... shows characters (not sure how to do similar for mouse clicks) Adding boot kernel option 'noapic' (as suggested on some fora) doesn't help So now I'm stuck as to how to solve this and how to narrow down potential causes so all tips welcome. I'm not sure about 2), could you try starting X (from current lenny or sid) with no mode listed in xorg.conf? If the wrong mode is chosen, please add Option "ModeDebug" to the Device section, and send the corresponding log to this bug (there should be a preferred mode in the EDID from the monitor, which X will choose, but if that's not the case we can add a quirk to the server for your particular monitor). Traditionallly that's done with the following command: dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. If I run that command, the script ends up with the question whether to emulate a 3-button mouse or not. There is no questioning for graphics card RAM, horizontal and vertical frequency range, colour depth, name of xserver, producer of graphics card and so on. Someone seems to have screwed up the configure script. If you set up Debian Lenny from scratch everything is fine, but if you try to reconfigure the xserver you seem to be lost. This bug appears independently from the type of xserver - it's part of the "configure" option of the dpkg-Package. Can someone reading this reproduce this bug? Can you please fix it? Re: Commit access to xorg GIT repo for the "Pootle" user
Quoting Christian Perrier ([EMAIL PROTECTED]): > Hello XSF folks, > > In order to activate the use of the Debian Pootle server > (http://i18n.debian.net:8080) for D-I related work, I would need the > "pootle-guest" user from Alioth to have commit access to xorg git > repository. After talking with Julien on IRC, we settled for something else: I cloned the git tree in git://git.debian.org/~pootle-guest/xorg and will sync it with the main tree. Pootle will commit there and, therefore, maintainers would just need to pull data from that tree when releasing (which would also solve the changelog problem, from what Julien told me). signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#490573: [xserver-xorg-video-intel] No video into projector
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel Version: 2:2.3.2-2 Severity: important --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Hello, I am afraid I cannot give much information, because it happened to me some weeks ago with a projector whose brand I do not know. On Monday I have to give another presentation which embedded videos, so *it is not portable to the computer they will have there with Windows*. OK, I could have asked Brice independently :-) instead of submitting a bug, but I am submitting the bug just in case it is a real bug and not my fault. If it is not a real bug, please forgive me and close the bug. I use Debian sid with KDE, and the display is "Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)". When I plugged the projector and rebooted, the GRUB and boot video output was directed to the projector, but as soon as kdm started the video output was in the computer screen and not in the projector. Pressing Fn + F5 did nothing. Sorry if it is my fault and not a bug, and hope it helps in case it is a bug. Bug#490580: xdm does not automatically run on startup
Package: xdm Version: 1:1.1.8-1.1 Severity: normal When booting the system the last message is «Starting X Display Manager: xdm» but xdm does not startup and I am left on tty1. loging in and starting xdm via «sudo xdm» works as it should. I have already purged xdm without fixing the problem. When kdm is set as default it starts without problems. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25.7-custom (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages xdm depends on: ii cpp 4:4.3.1-1 The GNU C preprocessor (cpp) ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.22 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.7-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libice6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libpam0g 0.99.7.1-6 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libselinux1 2.0.59-1 SELinux shared libraries ii libsm62:1.0.3-2 X11 Session Management library ii libx11-6 2:1.1.4-2 X11 client-side library ii libxau6 1:1.0.3-3 X11 authorisation library ii libxaw7 2:1.0.4-2 X11 Athena Widget library ii libxdmcp6 1:1.0.2-3 X11 Display Manager Control Protoc ii libxext6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxft2 2.1.12-3 FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxinerama1 2:1.0.3-2 X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxmu6 2:1.0.4-1 X11 miscellaneous utility library ii libxpm4 1:3.5.7-1 X11 pixmap library ii libxrender1 1:0.9.4-2 X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxt61:1.0.5-3 X11 toolkit intrinsics library ii lsb-base 3.2-12 Linux Standard Base 3.2 init scrip ii x11-common1:7.3+12 X Window System (X.Org) infrastruc ii x11-utils 7.3+2 X11 utilities ii xbase-clients 1:7.3+12 miscellaneous X clients - metapack xdm recommends no packages. -- debconf information: * shared/default-x-display-manager: xdm xdm/stop_running_server_with_children: false xdm/daemon_name: /usr/bin/xdm -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
