Bug#463222: ATI driver and OOo cause X segfault

2008-01-30 Thread Francesco Paolo Lovergine
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.7.197-1
Severity: important

I tried with two different ATI boards, X crashes and display freezes
just clicking on any menu item in the top menu bar of OOo.
So OOo is unusable in current sid on ATI.

I don't think this is ATI specific. This is probably Xserver bug #428388
which has been reported upstream at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10525

We had a patch for Xserver 1.3 (the one in testing) but it doesn't seem
to work for Xserver 1.4 (in unstable). I am merging and updating the
status of all the relevant bugs accordingly.

'reopen' may be inappropriate when a bug has been closed with a version;
you may need to use 'found' to remove fixed versions.
Bug reopened, originator not changed.

Not sure about that - the above says there's nothing in the log file.
Maybe this is rather related to the other XKB related server crashes
reported recently.

You could try git bisect to track down the change that caused the
problem. Unfortunately, the changes between 6.6.19x and 6.7.19x are
substantial (much of the driver was restructured) and it may be hard
to track down.

git from today looks much better. Even the async problems in the

xterm-232

2008-01-30 Thread Thomas Dickey
Patch #232 - 2008/01/30

 * corrected logic in a font-cache used for reverse-video (Debian
   #404079).
 * add control sequence to alter pointerMode at runtime.
 * add limit-checks for rectangle operation parameters (report by
   Martin Pirker).
 * modify  minstall.sh  to  suppress $MANPAGER and $PAGER environment
variables, which may interfere with redirecting output of man to a
shell variable (report/patch by Zdenek Sekera).
 * do not try to hide mouse pointer in the tek4014 window, fixes
broken "-t" option at startup from [236]patch #230 changes (report
   by Robert K. Nelson).
 * correct datatype used when drawing tek4014 data using xterm
compiled for wide-characters, on big-endian machines (reports by
Jeremy Huddleston, Harald Hanche-Olsen, Martin Costabel, Merle
   Reinhart).
 * modify to cache the font-names along with the bitmap font data, to
   improve comparison of fonts.
 * modify toallowbuildingwithconfigureoptions
   --disable-ansi-colorand --disable-leaks (Debian #459817,
   report/patch by Németh Márton).
 * modify toallowbuildingwithconfigureoptions
   --enable-wide-chars and --disable-c1-print (Debian #459816,
   report/patch by Németh Márton).
 * add pointerMode resource to control whether and when the pointer
cursor is hidden as the user types.
 * simplify initialization of ttyMode- and related characters using a
   table.
 * modify initialization-logic for stty values that correspond to
ltchars structure and the BSD TIOCSLTC ioctl (susp, dsusp, rprnt
flush, werase, lnext). These were reset to constants for both
termios and legacy interfaces immediately after asking the system
for the existing values since X11R6.1, rather than using them to
provide inherited values. While the legacy interface has some
constraints, e.g., on HPUX, the POSIX or termios interface should
not. Your shell may reset these anyway (prompted by patch by Ed
   Schouten).
 * improve logic for hiding/displaying pointer-cursor (report by Mark
   Brukhartz).
 * add limit-checks to tabs.c, increase maximum column for setting
tab-stops from 320 to 1024 (report by Németh Márton).
 * correct length, i.e., number of types of selection targets,
computed by ConvertSelection() when not handling wide characters
for the XA_TARGETS() case. This leaves an extra Atom on the end of
the list which is not handled by [237]Java applications. The
problem was introduced in [238]patch #151 (report by David Wood).

Bug#365602: Patch for changing font size in a fixed-size window

2008-01-30 Thread Jim Paris
severity 365602 normal
tags 365602 + patch
thanks

Hi,

I think this is more than just a minor bug, as it very much reduces
the usefulness of font size changes. In return for inflating the
severity, I offer a patch :)

With this applied, you can maximize an xterm, fire up a program like
emacs, hit "shift-KP_PLUS" and "shift-KP_MINUS", and marvel at how the
program resizes with the font to fit the screen.

Problems building xcb programs ...

2008-01-30 Thread Lars Segerlund
 Hi,

I am running etch with some stuff from experimental.

I have updated to libx11-6 from experimental and have the xcb-xxx-dev
1.1 packages installed, but when I try to compile some programs which
used to compile just fine a lot of symbols are not found, ( all the
XCB ones ).
( the progs also halt with libxcb.so.0 not found when run ... these
were built earlier ).

 I have done a find /usr/. -exec grep -l '{}' ';'
and concluded that these symbols are not defined anywhere in the
system ... this must mean that I am missing some dev package (
xcb-utils ??? ) or similar ...

I really have googled and looked around but I can't figure out what's missing.

Please give me some hint :-D ... and please reply to this adress
since I am not on the list.

 / best regards, Lars Segerlund.
