That's just a warning, afaik. I'm not sure this is what caused the
crash.

Bug#457385: xserver-xorg: Crashed sometimes with intel video device

2007-12-22 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Hi Brice,

Thank you for your mail. Basically, it's really hard for me to save
the logs in time, because when this problem occures the screen become
black and there is no way to get even a virtual console by
(Ctrl-)Alt-Fx. The hotkey Ctrl-Alt-Backspace does not work too. The
only thing I can do at that time is to press Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the
whole machine reboot. The logs are gotten just after the restarting
of the system (including the GDM). And, it is also difficult to
reproduce it as desire; I don't know at all when it will happen. But
I notice that, it occures always when I am using mouse to click some
buttons in firefox/iceweasel. That is, I have encountered this bug
several times; for each time, I do click some buttons of
firefox/iceweasel, such as the closing button or other buttons of
webpages. This is the only clue I can find up to now. I hope this is
helpful and not a misleading one.

Thank you very much.

Bug#455512: on second thought...

actually, upon further consideration i think this could be argued as a bug,
since policy could be interpreted "debian/rules build may require the clean
target to be run first" as "make build target depend on clean target if
necessary". thus, either build should indirectly depend on clean or have
some other kind of fix like the one you provided. given the simplicity of
the fix i'll apply that to the next version in unstable.

sorry for the noise...

hi robert,

policy doesn't say anything about the bulid target needing to be idempotent by
itself. it does say that you can require debian/rules clean to be run
first-- which if you do should solve the problem with interrupted builds.
there are many easily constructable situations where running build twice in a
row might produce unwanted results (maybe if someone echo's or sed's onto
files in the build target and undoes them in the clean target).

therefore i close this bug.

Compiz is mostly unusable because :
1) its slow. It takes several seconds to switch from one desktop to another.
2) desktop brightness/colors are strange, they look lighter.
3) some window parts are not displayed, which means that there are white
rectangles here and there on the screen.
4) some gnome-applets like the desktop-selector collapse into a single desktop
thumbnail

3 is really blocking.

Hi...

I'm using debian lenny and try to get compiz to work.
I followed this wiki entry
http://wiki.debian.org/Compiz
And followed the link it mentioned
http://nixser.com/2007/06/04/debian-compiz-on-kde-installation-how-to/

But after calling
compiz –replace gconf & kde-window-decorator &
I get this message:
/usr/bin/gtk-window-decorator: Could not acquire decoration manager
selection on screen 0 display :0.0

I'm using an nvdia graphic card, 3-D is working. I use KDE...

if any information is needed, I would be happy to get it for you

Hi,

$subject basically says it all, I was looking for a detailed changelog but the
upstream changelog stops at 1.0.0...

Right, I forgot to update the ChangeLog (anybody has an automatic way to
do that?). I fixed it in our git repo. if you really need a new upload
right now because of this, let me know :)

Option "AGPMode" "1"

I didn't say Policy requires it. It's common to use "important" severity for
FTBFS bugs that are nevertheless not RC. But feel free to adjust severity if
that bothers you.

Doing that can be really inconvenient when you're modifiing it. Every little
change requires waiting a few minutes.

If there was a reason for not supporting it in this particular package, I
wouldn't bother, but running "mkdir -p" instead of "mkdir" is not a real
inconvenient.

Which is a *really* bad idea and also defeats most of the purpose of using make
in the first place.

xawtv clearly takes control of the tuner and everything appears to be working
behind the scenes, but the screen remains black.

Details:

The GATOS site http://gatos.sourceforge.net/supported_cards.php says,

All-in-Wonder Radeon 8500DV (Radeon200) -- Should work fine with 4.2.0 or later
drivers. XvImage (YUV->RGB overlay and scaling) should
work fine. TV-in works in NTSC. Video capture should work.

dmesg says,

When I start xawtv with no parameters I get a black screen, but Xorg.0.log
shows something is working
(I should mention I have several other working cards in the same box, so I know
the signal is good).
Video source Television is not accepted, and 'tuner' flips to 'composite' every
time I change channel.

(II) RADEON(0): Setting tuner frequency to 885

I don't see any errors, but there's no picture. This is NTSC with us-cable. I
have three additional different types of tv grabber
cards in the same box and they all work fine -- all PCI cards, while the Radeon
is in the AGP slot.

I don't know enough to give a more useful bugreport -- I just don't see what
could be going wrong.

Bug#451989: now ctrl-alt ceases working

2007-12-22 Thread Sebastian Bremicker
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.4.1~git20071212-2

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hi,

after installing the latest version, the hangup was solved, thank you. Now
there is another effect, after creating the same situation which caused the
hang (using ratpoison C-t exclam or colon and hitting return there) all key
combinations which are based on ctrl-alt (like ctrl-alt-f1 or -backspace)
ceased working.

Is there anything I can trace or look deeper into?

Kind Regards,

Sebastian Bremicker

It works ;) But I switched to a RV350 (r300) card and don't have
time to test it on the old r200 variant

Feel free to close the bug. I won't, because I didn't test it with
old Radeon 9000 cards.

Bug#374035: marked as done (i810 driver in multihead setup uses wrong mode)

--- Begin Message ---
Package: xserver-xorg-video-i810
Version: 1:1.5.1.0-2

I use a multi-head xinerama setup with a 1024x768 mode for the notebook
display and 1280x1024 for an external monitor.
(see attached xorg.conf)

The X server fails to use the given 1280x1024, but sets up 1920x1440 instead:

(--) I810(1): Virtual size is 1920x1440 (pitch 1920)
(**) I810(1): *Built-in mode "1920x1440"
(**) I810(1): *Built-in mode "1600x1200"
(**) I810(1): *Built-in mode "1280x1024"
(**) I810(1): *Built-in mode "1024x768"
(**) I810(1): *Built-in mode "800x600"
(**) I810(1): *Built-in mode "640x480"

(see attached Xorg.0.log)

By suitably limiting HorizSync and VertRefresh I was able to make X
drop the higher resolution modes and use the 1280x1024 mode at 85 Hz:

(--) I810(1): Virtual size is 1280x1024 (pitch 1280)
(**) I810(1): *Built-in mode "1280x1024"
(**) I810(1): *Built-in mode "1024x768"
(**) I810(1): *Built-in mode "800x600"

The notebook is a Samsung Q25 with "Intel 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics".
The Xorg logfiles were shortened with "grep -i i810";
I can provide full logfiles on request.

Hi,

after installing the latest version, the hangup was solved, thank you. Now
there is another effect, after creating the same situation which caused the
hang (using ratpoison C-t exclam or colon and hitting return there) all key
combinations which are based on ctrl-alt (like ctrl-alt-f1 or -backspace)
ceased working.

Is there anything I can trace or look deeper into?

Blender crashes before even getting started (segmentation fault).

Crash occurs in R when using the rgl library (R's interface to opengl) -
if i zoom in the whole system freezes and doesn't recover.

Drawing wire objects with opengl (e.g. glutWireSphere), objects are
complete when they fill the viewport, when object is smaller than
viewport, some of the lines are missing.

None of the above problems occur when rendering is software only.

That would be caused by the new Mesa then? I am marking as fixed there.

Bug#457440: xserver-xorg-core: ctrl-alt keyboard combinations ceased working after prompts by ratpoison

2007-12-22 Thread Sebastian Bremicker
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.4.1~git20071212-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

after the fix in #451989 (endless loop) there now is a new effect regarding
events triggered e.g. by pressing return in ratpoisons C-t exclam or colon
prompts. After that (reproducible here) every key combination that includes
ctrl-alt, like ctrl-alt-F1 or ctl-alt-backspace ceases to work.

Kind regards

Sebastian

Package: xserver-xorg-video-sis
Version: 1:0.9.3-2
Severity: normal

Tried running X on an Intel mini-ITX board with an LCD panel connected.
The panel was detected (however, the X log mentions CRT).
When X started it showed display artifacts - thin vertical stripes where
an incorrect part of the picture is displayed. These are shown in all
but the smallest modes like 640x480.

Can you try the RandR 1.2 driver currently in experimental
(xserver-xorg-video-mga 1:1.9.100.dfsg.1-1)? Dual-head
management should be better and easier there. You might
need to update your xorg.conf first (or just try without
any xorg.conf at all first).

See http://bgoglin.livejournal.com/12835.html and

because the dependency is going in the wrong direction in that case. instead,
you should probably argue that compiz (or compiz-core, et c) should depend on
libcompizconfig instead.

sure, i think this is worth discussing. what would the -full package have?

maybe something like:

package: compiz-fusion-gnome
depends: compiz-gnome, compizconfig-backend-gconf,
 compizconfig-settings-manager, compiz-fusion-plugins-main
recommends: compiz-fusion-plugins-extra
suggests: compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported

package: compiz-fusion-kde
depends: compiz-kde, compizconfig-backend-kconfig,
 compizconfig-settings-manager, compiz-fusion-plugins-main
recommends: compiz-fusion-plugins-extra
suggests: compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported
description: compiz fusion for the kde environment

package: compiz-fusion-light (or should we just call it gtk?)
depends: compiz-gtk, libcompizconfig (since we dn't have a seperate ini
 backend), compizconfig-settings-manager, compiz-fusion-plugins-main
recommends: compiz-fusion-plugins-extra
suggests: compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported
description: compiz fusion environment (non-gnome/non-kde)

comments? should this change if/when emerald is packaged? fusion-icon? other
packages?

Package: xserver-xorg-video-savage
Version: 1:2.0.2.3-4
Severity: normal

After upgrading to the new modular X packages, I find that my X setup
now uses an excessive amount of CPU time to play back video when using
the XVideo extension.

The machine is my MythTV box. It is a small Shuttle box with builtin
"S3 Inc. VT8375 [ProSavage8 KM266/KL266]" video on the motherboard.
With the previous X packages video playback was excellent. The problem
appears to affect any program which makes use of the XVideo extension
(MythTV, mplayer, xine, etc.).

I have looked through the X log, but I did not see anything out of the
ordinary. I also checked the savage man page, but I did not find any
new information or anything that might relate to the problem.

I will also include my xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log files.

Probably yes, looking at the backtrace of the segmentation fault:

Bug#457440: xserver-xorg-core: ctrl-alt keyboard combinations ceased working after prompts by ratpoison

2007-12-22 Thread Brice Goglin

Sebastian Bremicker wrote:

Package: xserver-xorg-core

Hi,

after the fix in #451989 (endless loop) there now is a new effect regarding
events triggered e.g. by pressing return in ratpoisons C-t exclam or colon
prompts. After that (reproducible here) every key combination that includes
ctrl-alt, like ctrl-alt-F1 or ctl-alt-backspace ceases to work.

Can you start xkbwatch and see what happens when you press the "bad"
keys in ratpoisons? Does it light anything in xkbwatch?
Does the ctrl-alt behavior change in xkbwatch after ratpoisons?

Ping?

Still the same problem with latest xserver-xorg-core and driver sfrom
unstable? If not, can you catch a backtrace with gdb?

I am sorry, we can't help much here. There are probably less
than 5 users of this driver in the world, including the
J. Blanchard who sent the above patches. And you know more
about this software and hardware than any of us. Since nobody
really maintains this driver, you could even become its upstream
maintainer.

You should talk to the upstream or to this J Blanchard directly
(with the xorg list in CC), or at least post a bug on
bugzilla.freedesktop.org. In both cases, post your config and
log, and all what you said here.

Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.1.0-16

The X server seems to modify the keyboard repeat settings normally set
in the BIOS, which I normally set as 250ms before starting to repeat
and 30 chars per second when repeating. As a workaround I have the
following in XF86Config-4:

Option "AutoRepeat""250 30"

but this was not required at all in XFree86 version 3 (at least not
with the xserver-mach64 server).

It would be nice if the X server did not fiddle with keyboard
settings, since XFree version 3 didn't.

If this is not possible or easy, it would be nice to have a debconf
option which asks about the desired AutoRepeat settings, at least.

Thanks.

No reply within several months, closing this bug now.

Do you still experience this problem with latest xserver-xorg-core and drivers?

evdev is unloaded. I've recompiled xserver-xorg-input-evdev-1.1.5
against xserver-xorg-dev (>= 2:1.4) and everything seems to be ok
then.

According to the URL Above, this is a configuration problem. Some
documentation is also missing, upstream is aware of it.

I noticed that my Logitech MX510 USB mouse stops responding after i unplug and
re-plug it.
(I first noticed that when suspend to disk/ram with tuxonice made my USB mouse
stopped
working upon resume.

Upon resume, everything seems OK, as far as i can tell :

lsusb sees the mouse correctly and i can't see anything wrong when using
udevmonitor ( symlinks are ok, and points correctly to /dev/input/event3
which is what i have in my xorg.conf.

Everything used to be OK, on that part, when using 2.6.20.11.
Now, even when going back to 2.6.20.11, it behaves the same, no mouse upon
unplug/replug
so i thought that it may be not be kernel related

PC is ASUS P4C800-E ( 3.0 GHz x86) running Debian SID, latest packages.
