Bug#454101: xorg-dev: should depend on libpixman-dev

2007-12-02 Thread Pablo Barbáchano
Package: xorg-dev
Version: 1:7.3+7
Severity: minor

I was compiling the wacom driver from source and to be able to compile
the Xorg driver you need the Xorg libraries. I run

aptitude install xorg-dev

hoping it would pull all dev packages. However I got an error at
compile time saying that it was missing pixman.h

After installing libpixman-dev it worked*.

I couldnt find any bug reporting this so that's why I'm reporting

Thanks
Pablo

* I had to change -I include paths but that's wacom driver's fault I guess.

Note that it's trivial to re-write in bash, though.

Because of type-handling. Maybe we should change that instead...

X11 maintainers, how would you feel about making 'xorg' a binary-arch
package so that it can use [] arch specifiers?

xorg-dev depends on xserver-xorg-dev which depends on libpixman-1-dev so
it should already be fine.
Isn't the problem just caused by wacom looking for /usr/include/pixman.h
instead of /usr/include/pixman-1/pixman.h?
Note that libpixman-dev is dead, we use libpixman-1-dev now.

That's why you need thinkpad-acpi loaded, the X driver uses the "kernel"
interface.

We should talk to upstream about that. This bug has been here for so long...

We need to open a bug report at bugzilla.freedesktop.org product Xorg
component Driver/NV and post your config and the log with the latest
release, i.e. NV 2.1.6 currently in unstable. Can you do that? I guess
you're
running testing, right? If so, I'll rebuild a driver for you.

Can you reproduce this with another driver, for instance nv or vesa? We
can't debug nvidia-glx...

This didn't happen with 2:2.1.1-4, right? EXA is enabled by default now,
it wasn't before. Does it help if you add
Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"
to the Device section of your xorg.conf?

If not, can you try to git bisect to find out where it got broken?

You should also downgrade xserver-xorg-core to see whether the problem
is caused by it or the nvidia driver. You can find old packages on
snapshot.debian.net

The lockup does occur, too, when I reconfigure X to use vesa.

Bug#453930: "no video driver modules found" message is never displayed

2007-12-02 Thread Robert Millan
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: latest
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

An "empty" $DRIVER_LIST may actually include a space. Also, the "observe"
command means that the problem is not reported to the user unless said user
is debugging the internals of the script.

See attached patch.

Follow composite protocol version to 0.4, although there is no ABI change.

Composite protocol 0.4 changes clipping semantics, but doesn't affect any of
the interfaces. As such, this library version is exactly the same as the 0.3
series, but the documentation includes a description of the semantic change.

Remove make-orig-tar-gz target

This target wasn't kept up to date and was totally broken for the git

use in any form, so it's been supersceded by a script that is currently
located at

Please add a '^' there as well, or we might get the same problem again.

Bug#453937: hangs when probing (with x86emu on amd64) a radeonhd card

2007-12-02 Thread Robert Millan
Package: xresprobe
Version: 0.4.23debian1
Severity: important

ddcprobe hangs while probing a radeonhd card. A gdb backtrace reveals
that it happened while processing real mode code under x86emu emulation.

Is this a known issue? If not, I'd trace it a bit further by installing
i386 debian and trying the same with x86emu to determine wether x86emu or
the firmware is at fault.

The intel driver's textured video Xv adaptor has always had this
problem, regardless of EXA or XAA. Try the overlay adaptor instead.

Maybe not exactly this issue, but xresprobe is known to cause some
problems. And we expect to not need xresprobe anymore in the future.

Most probably a bug in the x86 emulator. It probably makes sense to try
the xresprobe package in ubuntu, since they have some changes to that
package and might have fixed this.

Cheers,
Julien

Other examples are gmplayer (Mplayer) when a gl video driver option is used,
armagetron, and many WINE programs which depend on the WINE opengl drivers.

It is interesting that these programs don't seem to crash when dri is disabled,
and GL is using software rendering. Also, some GL programs seem to work fine,
such as billard-gl, neverput and ppracer. As well, after the system seems to
have crashed, my computer LED occasionally flickers as if the system is still
loading.
Ctrl-alt-escape seems to work and shutdown the system even after it has crashed
and is not receiving keyboard input. Howerver, as it is shutting down my screen
and keyboard seem to remain frozen.

Here is a list of a few package versions relavent to the problem. My libc6 and
libgl1-mesa-dri & glx packages have been upgraded, as I thought these might be
the culprit. However, the problem is still there. As far as I can tell, chaning
MESA and mesa-dri has not changed anything.

Bug#453937: hangs when probing (with x86emu on amd64) a radeonhd card

I did a bit more testing. The result is that on either i386 or amd64,
ddcprobe hangs if run whenever X is running (but not otherwise).

Sounds like a firmware thread-safety bug. If you ask me, not sure what was
all that big fuss about AMD allowing free drivers if these have to rely on
propietary firmware. oh well...

Anyway, can we work around it? How about adding a timeout in ddcprobe so
that unreliable firmware code won't hang it undefinitely ? Or is this just
not worth it because...

> And we expect to not need xresprobe anymore in the future.

so what is going to replace it? Is there a completely different approach,
or just a new implementation of the same?

Bug#453782: xserver-xorg-video-nv: Please support suspend to ram

2007-12-02 Thread Eugen Dedu

Brice Goglin wrote:

Did you actually check that suspend to ram *never* works with the NV driver?
on all supported hardware? There are many things involved in suspend to ram,
including the kernel, the X server and the driver.

No, I do not know if it works on other computers.

But on computers like mine (MacBookPro v3) it does not work. On
http://wiki.debian.org/MacBookPro#head-1d27e9182475ac6bf8a09771255ef5650d01c43c

it is written that s2ram works with old nvidia drivers and vanilla linux.

What problem are you experiencing? This bug report is pretty useless without
any detail about the problem. Did you try passing |acpi_sleep=s3_bios to the
kernel command line?|

With linux's acpi_sleep=s3_bios, I execute s2ram -f. At resume, the
computer works, but the screen is black, pressing CapsLock does not
change the LED.

Ok.

Hmm, I did not see it before.

What do you mean with "overlay adaptor"?
