Bug#440174: xserver-xorg-video-ati: Same problem on ATI Radeon 7500

2007-10-22 Thread Vincent Bernat
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.7.195-2
Followup-For: Bug #440174

Hi !

I have just upgraded and get the same problem on an ATI 7500:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV200
QW [Radeon 7500]

I have two Dell E176FP with absolutely the same configuration (reset
to factory default and checked by hand) and the right one is far more
washed out.

xserver-xorg-input-mouse_1%3a1.2.2-6_i386.deb

2007-10-22 Thread Stef
Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct place. I just want to
report that since I installed this package, my mouse
cannot single-click anymore. Everything gets double-clicked,
and I had to downgrade to xserver-xorg-input-mouse_1%3a1.2.2-1_i386.deb

From the SID distribution.

Kind Regards
Stefan

Bug#447526: xserver leaks memory

2007-10-22 Thread Yann Dirson
Not long after I reported this problem, the system OOM'd and iceweasel
got killed (along with a gitk instance, but I only mention it for
completeness, I don't believe he was much guilty).

Now the formerly-growing mem areas are completely gone from X:

I'm no xrestop expert, and the full listing did not seem suspect to me
at first. In case someone can see anything suspect here, I reproduce
it, from tty history.

Appart from showing an obvious leak in iceweasel, I wonder whether
xrestop should not have displayed any useful info here. I'm not even
sure "xresrop -b" would have disclosed more information.

Opinions ?

Re: Bug#431756: ITP: compiz-bcop -- Compiz option code generator

2007-10-22 Thread sean finney
hi emilio,

thanks for the work on this!

the biggest problem that we had been facing thus far is that the debian-x
folks are very reluctant to take on management of cdbs-based packaging, which
is why i never just took and cross-ported ubuntu's packages (which is what
you've used as a basis for your packages, it seems).

as you can see, my ITP was a while back. a combination of factors have kept
me really busy in the past few months, though it looks like this is finally
cleared up now, and i can start spending time on fun things again :)

i'd like to continue working on debianized compiz-foo packages that the
debian-x folks are more happy to team-maintain, but it seems like a real
waste to leave everyone sitting around waiting in the meantime, esp. when
someone (you) has already provided the working packages.

so, i'm cc'ing debian-x with a proposal, that i hope will make everyone happy:

0 - do a quick audit of the packages you've provided.
1 - i take the packages that you've provided, add myself to Uploaders, and
sponsor uploads into unstable of these packages.
1.5 - bug reports go to you as the official maintainer, and you can coordinate
with me on any fixes/updates which i will also sponsor.
2 - i continue working on the non-cdbs debianisation in the pkg-xorg repo
3 - at some point >= now, we have a "handover" where the pkg-xorg maintained
packages replace the sponsored package.
4 - you are invited to join debian-x and continue to help team-maintain the
latest pkg-xorg maintained packages.

what does everyone think of this?

Yes, I've used as a basis the debian dir of ubuntu packages for all the
components except of compiz 0.6.2. For it I've used the debian dir of
Shame (http://shame.tuxfamily.org), which was packaging git compiz for a
while.
For the orig.tar.gz I've used the official source tarballs of
compiz-fusion.org (http://releases.compiz-fusion.org/0.6.0/).

What is the problem with cdbs?

I think that these compiz-* packages are not too complicated.
The only issues could arise in the managing the python packages,
respecting the policy. I don't know too much about it. Perhaps we all
could collaborate to obtain good packages, that's the advantage of the
community!
as you can see, my ITP was a while back. a combination of factors have kept

great ;-)

I think that this is a good choice for the short term. Many debian
testing/sid users who want to use compiz fusion and started using ubuntu
for this (and many others) reason.

I don't know how actually pkg-xorg maintain packages, I must read
something about it (perhaps googling ;-) )..

What are the advantages?

Sounds fine to me if that's how you want to do things. Emilio, if you have
any questions about the team, please don't hesitate to ask either here or
drop by #debian-x on oftc.

We maintain our packages using git on alioth.debian.org[0]. We have a
mailing list that all commit messages currently go to, which allows review
of other people's work. Those of us who are Debian developers usually
sponsor uploads for non-dd's in the team to the archive. We're also able to
coordinate uploads of packages together. For the X packages, this is pretty
critical to get right because you usually have to upload new versions of
the drivers along with a new server release. For compiz, I can imagine that
this sort of corrdination is required too. Having a team and this
infrastructure lets us split the workload, although we're largely focused
on X stuff right now. Since you're looking at having multiple people
working on compiz, you'll already have this at your disposal.

We keep our homepage on the Debian wiki[1] where anyone can edit the pages
to add or update information. We specifically have a section on being a
contributor to the team[2] that you might want to look at. Some of this is
outdated, but if you want to hang around #debian-x on freenode or just
peruse the debian-x@lists.debian.org list archives you'll get a feel for
how we operate.

Finally, the social aspect is that by working on your packages in Debian
they'll go to all Debian-derived distros (as well as Debian itself) which
is a very large group.

Hope that helps. If you'd like anything else clarified, please ask.

Meeting for etch and a half

2007-10-22 Thread dann frazier
(sorry for the nasty cross-posting)

hey,
Now that 2.6.23 is out and the proposed timeframe for etch 1/2 is
just over two months away, its probably a good time to start making
some progress on an etch 1/2.

Perhaps we should start with an IRC meeting? I've created a wiki page
here with an initial stab at an agenda, starting with "Is it still a
good idea?":
  http://wiki.debian.org/EtchAndAHalf

If we have consensus is to proceed, then I'd like to see if we can
come up with a list of next steps. I'll be travelling Thur->Monday of
this week, so Wednesday is the only day I can do this week, but next
week is pretty open. If you're interested in attending, please mark
available times here:
