Are you sure you removed the fglrx stuff _entirely_ when testing with
xserver-xorg-video-ati? fglrx changes some GL libraries, it could cause
problems if you just switch from fglrx to ati in xorg.conf without
removing ati.

Could you try upgrading to Lenny/testing xserver-xorg-core 1.3 and
xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.6.192 currently in experimental?

another "just deinstall" crap: x-session-manager

Ha Ha Ha. This is the same stupid fallacy which exists with our
x-session-manager management in Xsession. Why is _always_ some
x-session-manager provider started (and not x-window-manager) after you
have ONLY installed installed a such monster? This situation happens
very easy, one user of many asks you to install KDE and *boom* the login
behaviour has changed for everybody.

And there is no way to get rid of it without editing stuff. When I asked
why the easy configurable option of usin a WM has to be disabled in this
situation, I got an answer like: "because if something else handles
startup it has to comply with X Session standard". No explanation of
apples-oranges situation helped the maintainer to understand.

Eduard.

I tried it again after removing the fglrx stuff, but it doesn't resolved
the problem. I can reproduce the problem with a complete fresh
installation where the system has never seen fglrx.

I tried it, but i lost. I've removed the both packages from the system
(--force-all) and installed the new one, but it looks like there are a
lot of dependencies to different librarys. is there any way to test it
an after it to bring the system back in the current state?

Bug#433876: works for me too :-)

2007-07-28 Thread Nadav Kavalerchik
i am adding this remark for the sake of documentation only :-)

i filed a bug report a while back : 402584
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=402584
in which i thought that the brightness control special keys Fn7-Fn8 do not
work because of ACPI issues.

BUT... now that i found this bug report just a few minutes ago :-)
and followed its instructions to install experimental ati xorg drivers which
now solved this issue for me on Compaq Presario 1500 with Radeon Mobility M7
LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] i'll close and redirect the other bug report.

Bug#435040: xserver-xorg-video-ati: switching VT from console to X freezes computer with X22 (Radeon Mobility M6 LY)

2007-07-28 Thread Kari Pahula
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.6.192-1
Severity: important

Changing the VT from X to console and back to X locks up the computer
completely, unless I'm using the console framebuffer device. With
console fbdev, just the screen freezes and I can still ssh to it or type
blindly.

It's in hw/xfree86/int10/xf86int10.c
Function
int1A_handler(xf86Int10InfoPtr pInt)

For AX values 0xb108, 0xb109, 0xb10a, 0xb10b, 0xb10c and 0xb10d

The entire contents of edi is used as a pci register number, only DI
should be used.

For this specific bios

< X86_ECX = pciReadLong(tag, X86_EDI);
--

X86_ECX = pciReadLong(tag, X86_DI);

in case 0xb10a: fixes my problem.

Now I have a driver that's both stable and not too slow. :-)

This is either a bug in the x86 emulator included in the X server, or a
bug in your vbios. In either case, it'd probably work if you didn't use
the vesa driver. Is there any particular reason you use it instead of
an appropriate driver for your video card?

Bug#420610: starts with black screen on Intel 855GM

thanks

Hi,

I have tested xserver-xorg-video-intel at version 2:2.1.0-2
on chipset 855GM and have a black screen after starting gdm.
I able to login blindly, so X should work except the display
part.

I downgrade with xserver-xorg-video-i810_1.7.2-4_i386.deb to get display work
again.

Erik
