I've used my laptop for a few days. The problem didn't occur, but
a few minutes ago, the system didn't see I had released a key (s),
so that I got 'ss' in an xterm. I don't know
if this is related...

Hi,

I've done a typing error so I've used a _very_ big font in The Gimp.

Hi,

as far as I know the type1 backend isn't used these days (support for
CID fonts is gone from libXfont, and the rest is or should be handled by
the freetype rasterizer).
I'm closing this bug, but feel free to reopen it if I'm mistaken and the
problem is still reproducible.

Cheers,
Julien

Ok, that's yet another occurrence of #389576 (crash in GLcore, i.e. the
Mesa built-in the server core). It's already fixed upstream Mesa
(upstream bug #7288 or #7205). So it will be fixed when a new Xserver is
released and built against a new Mesa.

Bug#433825: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Error in I830WaitLpRing(), timeout for 2 seconds

2007-07-19 Thread Luca Capello
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.1.0-2
Severity: important

Hello!

Complete Xorg.0.log attached. Basically, either my X session gets
kicked out (i.e., back to the Display Manager) or its freezes. The
system is still alive, because SSH works and the hardware (wireless
switch and undocking button) generates events in /var/log/syslog.
Unfortunately, the keyboard doesn't respond anymore, neither to change
to another console.

This is the first time I see this error and I don't know who's fault,
i.e. the Intel driver, splashy (which IIRC has some problems with
GDM/KDM, but I use XDM) or StumpWM [1] (my window manager, but I don't
think it's the problem here).

Strangely enough, the first time the error happened was during the
creation of a 3.2G data DVD image creation by genisoimage. But then,
the error occurred other times, independently of genisoimage. I'd say
that the error happens during an heavy load on xterm, for example it
happens during a dmesg invocation, also.

AFAIK this error has never been reported before in the BTS, if this
was the case, please excuse me.

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca

Hi Alex and Julien!

Thanks a lot for fixing this one[1]! The new driver seems to work well on
my ThinkPad T23! I was able to logout from X11 session and see KDM again
instead of a black screen.

Much appreciated ;-).

Looks like you forgot to attach it, so I'll attach a copy now for the
record. I'll try to resurrect the menu entries before getting the split
xbase-clients from experimental to unstable.

It appears that shutting down the computer, disconnecting the power,
reconnecting it, and switching the computer back on (the same
procedure as for the original problem) made this problem go away for
now.

Package: xbase-clients
Severity: normal

xbase-clients.postinst should invoke xftcache in font directories.
The Type1 packages doesn't depend on xbase-clients and xftcache should
be invoked in cases when xbase-clients is installed after all font
packages.

I am not sure but it seams that xutils is a better place for xftcache.
There are more library dependencies of xftcache though.

xftcache doesn't exist anymore, so I think this report isn't relevant
these days.

Package: xbase-clients
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-12.0.1
Severity: wishlist

[ Let's try again. Guess I should learn how to use reportbug. ]

Hi,

I tried removing all gl related packages on a system which had no hardware
supporting it anyway and with a dire need for harddisk space, but couldn't
because xbase-clients contains a number of gl applications. I had to build
an empty package with equivs to satisfy the gl dependency, which is rather
stupid.

Would you please split out the gl clients into their own package? (from a
cursory look, most are just test or diagnostics applications anyway)

Regards,

Filip

When the latest version of this is installed then x won't start as it
can't recognised the kbd anymore. The fix is described in
/usr/share/doc/xserver-xorg-input-kbd but it shouldn't just break a
system like that by default. I suggest that somehow keyboard be replaced
in xorg.conf by kbd with a script.

Bug#433876: xserver-xorg-video-ati: brightness buttons don't work on compaq nc6000

2007-07-19 Thread John Wright
Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Version: 1:6.6.3-2
Severity: normal

I have a compaq nc6000 laptop, and the brightness buttons don't work if
I use x.org's ati driver. They do work with fglrx, and they used to
work with the free ati driver in sarge. Unfortunately, I can't work
around this by switching virtual terminals and changing brightness
there, since the buttons will not work at all after X starts -- I have
to restart the machine for the buttons to work again.

Here's the output from lspci:

I have also attached my most recent Xorg.0.log, which says nothing about

Please let me know what else I can do to help debug.
