Bug#220657: xlibs-static-dev: libxf86config:xf86writeConfigFile() writes localized output (decimal separator) when it shouldn't

2007-01-30 Thread Nikolaus Schulz
Hi Brice,

thanks for taking care about some ancient bugs.

I guess it hasn't been fixed so far. But I've just reported a bug, I've
little insight in X11 development.

> Or that you don't care anymore?

Hm, not much. I was just a user of mgapdesk, and I've contributed my
analysis, which of course may be wrong. IMO it is now in the hands of
the respective package maintainers to care about their packages.

> Or that nobody reassigned it?

Yes. See above. The maintainers should decide about reassigning the
bug once again.

> Do you still have the hardware to try to reproduce the problem on
> current Xorg/Etch?

Yes, I am still running the same hardware. And no, I'm using Sarge
exclusively for now, although I have an upgrade test bed prepared.
So, if you really want, I might try to reproduce it, but that would
need some effort from my side.

HAND,
Nikolaus

Bug#409072: /usr/bin/X: X crashes with symbol lookup error: /usr/X11R6/lib/libXfont.so.1: undefined symbol: FT_Init_FreeType

2007-01-30 Thread Miklos Szeredi
Package: x11-common
Version: 1:7.1.0-11
Severity: important
File: /usr/bin/X

The X server crashes hard, console text mode is not restored. There's
nothing in Xorg.0.log to indicate a crash.

The last line belonging to the session in /var/log/kdm.log is:

/usr/X11R6/bin/X: symbol lookup error: /usr/X11R6/lib/libXfont.so.1: undefined
symbol: FT_Init_FreeType

I can trigger it reliably by loading http://freshmeat.net/projects/linux
into Opera.

This started happening after upgrading to Xorg.

why do you still have a /usr/X11R6/lib/libXfont.so.1? Since X.Org 7.0,
libXfont lives in /usr/lib.
What version of xserver-xorg-core, libxfont1 and libfreetype6 do you
have installed?

$ ls -al /usr/X11R6/lib/libXfont.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Jun  1  2004 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXfont.so.1 ->

$ dpkg -S /usr/X11R6/lib/libXfont.so.1.5
dpkg: /usr/X11R6/lib/libXfont.so.1.5 not found.

Looks like a non-deb installation, though I can't remember when or why
I might have done that.

Removing it resolves the issue, so it was my fault. Sorry for the
noise.

Thanks,
Miklos

thank you

These manpages are back in upstream liXext 1.0.3, so it will be Xorg 7.2.

Bug#79228: bug#79228: xlibs-static-dev: [libxf86dga] atexit functions don't work after XF86DGAGetVideo()

2007-01-30 Thread Brice Goglin
This problem still occurs with Xorg 7.1. It is caused by
XF86DGAGetVideo() programming XF86Cleanup() as a atexit() callback while
XF86Cleanup() calls _exit(). The code is dirty, but it is possible to
fix it. I have reported and posted a patch upstream at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9815.

Package: libxaw6-dev
Version: 4.1.0-9
Severity: normal

To have this package actually behave as intended, you need to define OLDXAW
(which is documented) but I just got bitten when building XEmacs because I
didn't know this. Would it be possible to define this by default in
libxaw6-dev, since otherwise the package is bit-for-bit identical to
libxaw7-dev? (and in my mind thus somewhat pointless).

that I don't want to do so unless you really think it'd be helpful.

If you don't then we will never be able to use X again.
You should say how to get back to the state before we took your
advice to try xserver-xfree86-dbg.

You don't tell users how to restore using xserver-xfree86.
update-alternatives isn't the answer.
dpkg-reconfigure isn't the answer.
Luckily on my disk I had an

so the best I could think of was to reinstall it even though it was

Anyway, removing one 'alternative' should not leave us in big trouble.

Hi,

I wanted to use option keypad:comma by adding it to XKBOptions, but this
didn't work until I applied the attached patch. There are probably a lot
of such options that are missing from rules/xorg...

This all sounds perfect. I'll omit it and maybe try and add the changes on
as a separate branch when doing the conversion. They've been talking about
merging modesetting to the trunk for a while, so I think having it on a
branch locally until they do is a good move.

What do you prefer me to do? Keep open until you get a chance to try to
reproduce? Or close it with an invitation to reopen in case anybody ever
reproduces?

Since NoAccel makes the problem disappear, it is very likely related to
DRI and/or your board driver. Both got a lot of changes during the last
3 years. I would personally vote for 85% chance of not being able to
reproduce :)

Bug#409142: x11-common: Xsession is missing, gnome fonts display as squares, and kde is not starting any more, even if i copy Xsession from somewhere else

2007-01-30 Thread soloturn
Package: x11-common
Version: 1:7.1.0-11
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

the following happened in the last months when doing "wajig upgrade"
regularly:
* Xsession disappeard (did not reappear in the meantime, saw the bug
that it should be there again)
* gnome fonts display as squares (utf-8 issue? no idea at all)
* kdm does not restart even if i create Xsession from some knoppix
version

up to now i wonder why every X upgrade breaks the configuration to a
state which cannot be understood by "normal" users. every year this
happens once, since i'm using debian 5 yrs ago.

why you do not use a x configuration system like knoppix??

Fix (Pre-)Depends of libxrandr-dev on x11-common.

lintian says that the pre-dependency needs to be on x11-common (>= 1:7.0.0),
and the regular Depends isn't needed, because it's already covered by the
Pre-Depends.
