Indeed I changed the laptop, so I couldn't reproduce the bug anymore.
It could be probably reproduced by anyone still in possession of X31 IBM
laptop.

PS My e-mail address seems perfectly valid...

I cannot reproduce it anymore: the machine has been upgraded to
current etch where I have not experienced such freeze (external
display does not work anymore but I do not know yet if it is a xorg
bug or a misconfiguration on my side -- no time to investigate yet --,
anyways, completely unrelated to this bug).

Thanks for taking care of the bug. I think you can close it now and
have a cleaner view of xorg bugs. :)

Hi Brice,

I think latest package fixed the problem. I haven't been able to
reproduce it in a while.

I have strange problem, possibly xlibmesa-related.
The strange thing is, that only kicker seems to hang up :->,
even if XFree process constantly eats up 67% of processor time.

I start SwissPDBViewer (http://www.expasy.org/spdbv/)
with some environment settings:
export LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=yes
export LIBGL_SOFTWARE_RENDERING=yes
on an ATI Mobility 16MB
and zoom 3D structure (OpenGL) window to max.
3D view works perfectly, but I can no longer use
kicker applets to switch between applications.
When I try, then XFree begins to eat up 60-70% of processor
time.

I'm really surprised about the results :-)

Package: xserver-xfree86-dbg
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8
Severity: normal

Hi,

I have a bug similar to #236187 but with the radeon driver. While
using the server with both GL applications (eg glxgears) and xdvi,
it eventually loops
forever. I did not manage to find a simple systematic way to reproduce
it, but it happens almost everytime I have been trying to use X for some
months. X used to work correctly before (with the 4.2.99 from M. Daenzer). I
also managed to make X lock with only glxgears, but it seems that starting
xdvi on a dvi file makes the lock appear faster... don't ask me why. It also
locked with only xdvi and emacs, but I'm not sure it still happens (I
dist-upgrade-d many times in the meanwhile, without testing it again).

The bug appears with the "normal" xserver-xfree86, and also
xserver-xfree86-dbg, on both linux 2.4 and linux 2.6 (ppc host), with
debian or custom built kernels. It appears with or without the commented-out
options in the "Device" section of the XF86Config-4 below (EnablePageFlip
and AGPFastWrite), even when I change the value of the AGPMode option.

Here are some gdb traces on the -dbg version of the server (debian 2.6.8 ppc UP
kernel). In gdb I tried to break multiple times to see whether the call
stack changed. Another trace comes afterwards, which was made with the
"normal" version of the server (ie no debug):

Package: xlibmesa-dri
Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6

When using acceleration and direct rendering the image comes-up all
garbled-up and sometimes the programs quits due to a SEGV error.

This error can be easily reproduced using blender3d or gmsh. Before
selecting any objects blender or gmsh the image is fine. After selecting
any object the image becomes completely garbled. If you rotate the
object view in gmsh repeatedly it will throw the SEGV error.

If you turn of direct rendering the two programs work fine. The
xlibmesa3-dri-trunk package with XFree86 does not produce this bug.

I'm using Debian testing with kernel 2.6.16.11.

Bug#339464: xlibmesa-dri: Add mach64 dri support

2007-01-24 Thread Micha Feigin
The support to Xorg was added at the time (it wasn't compiled in originally). At
the moment as far as I know DRI doesn't work again though as the version of the
kernel module from dri.freedesktop.org requires a newer version of Xorg than
debian carries.

That is a different bug/feature request so the original bug can be closed.

Thanks
Micha

Bug#152505: xnest: Please fix this bug, which is still annoying diligent users

2007-01-24 Thread Reuben Thomas
Package: xnest
Version: 2:1.1.1-15
Followup-For: Bug #152505

I have been caught out by this bug before, and just now again: the
first time was long enough ago that this time I had forgotten the
first time. Branden suggests reading the X FAQ. I can't find it on my
system. Branden said it was under /usr/share/doc/xfree86-common, but
it's not in the successor package, x11-common. Hmm, google:

http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/FAQ

OK, now I can see a question about Xnest, and it says I should use
xephyr. OK, I try that, but I get exactly the same problem. Now I read
the question, and it tells me what to do. And the script works.

So, why am I still writing this? Because I shouldn't have to ransack
the BTS and go chasing across the web just to run a nested X server.
Please can you package the wrapper script as /usr/bin/X{ephyr,nest},
then everything will just work? Or package the script under another
name, add a note to the man pages about it, and preferably put a
comment in the script or man pages explaining why you can't just
install the wrapper as the name of the program it wraps.

I'm not using kdm anymore, so I did indeed not reproduce it recently.
Feel free to close it on my behalf.

2007-01-24 Thread Brice Goglin
Stewart Stremler wrote:

>

glcore should not be loaded explicitly nowadays. You should remove "load
glcore" from xorg.conf. The server will load it when it needs it.

The _gl_dispatch error looks strange to me. It looks like an
incompatible GL library is installed. You seem to have an ATI board. Did
you try a ATI binary driver in the past? Are you sure you don't have any
DRI/GL related library package that did not get upgraded? For instance
because it is "hold". Which xorg and mesa packages do you have
installed? The output of "dpkg -l | grep xorg" and "dpkg -l | grep mesa"
might help.

> Any further suggestions?
>

It is better if you disable DRI in xorg.conf too?
Eventually, you could try a recent kernel. Etch has a 2.6.18-3, it could
be better than your 2.4.24.

Done.

Not that I am aware of. (Then again, it's been quite some time since
I last fought with this machine.) There's an xserver-xorg-video-ati package
installed.

Done, and done. For that output (and other output) see:

It changes, in that it but it's not better. It complains about the
DRI module not being loaded instead of complaining about screen 0
not being DRI capable.

Last time I tried that, the system wouldn't boot at all. I haven't
tried recently, however.

Thanks for all your help, by the way.

No, alt + sys + k and b don't work

I found an even better one : glxgears makes the freeze after only 1 minute !

I also have a 2.6.19-rc3 kernel and it freezes likewise. My feeling is
that it even freezes faster with this one but it's probably no more than
a feeling.

But it's advertised as 950. Why are there 2 different versions numbers ?

direct rendering: Yes

It doesn't seem to happen after several minutes running glxgears.

Disabling dri allows me to play crack-attack, that's already a good point :)

SSH from another computer doesn't work either

Subject: xlibmesa3: bzflag freezes up X completely at random times
Package: xlibmesa3
Version: 4.2.1-3
Severity: normal

Hello,

I have a somewhat difficult to reproduce bug, so I tried to gather more info
before reporting.

While running bzflag (all versions) I experience lockups of my screen after
random times. Sometimes it happens after seconds, sometimes after hours.
Usually you can play for a long time. It is not possible to switch to another
console anymore. The only way to get to the computer is through network (ssh).
Killing bzflag or restarting the X server does not bring back the computer. The
screen and keyboard stay unresponsive. Only way to bring back X is a reboot.

I am running debian testing, but it doesn't seem to be debian specific. (also
reported to happen on Mandrake)

I have been debugging bzflag, and it seems that the main thread, which contain
the graphics code stops at the crash at different places. I think this is
because something asynchronous (opengl?) causes it to freeze up. It is probably
not the sound thread, since this keeps running after the freeze.

People have seen the same behaviour with other linux games. I myself once with
vegastrike.

I have a suspicion that it is caused by the opengl implementation on linux. (It
also doesn't happen on windows)

There is a lengthy discussion about this and symptons of it on (warning: there
are some side discussion about different bugs and issues):
http://bzbb.homelinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=105

And some on:
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=780343&forum_id=9554

I am out of idea's to find out and fix myself what is causing this. I would be
happy to search further if I can get some hints on how to do that.

Cheers,
Remco.

There are still quite a few people out there with mach64 and having dri
for this card helps quite a bit, considering it is in the tree it would
be nice to compile it.

Since you have an ATI board and this ATI driver package, why do you use
the VGA driver? :)

Section "Device"
Identifier "Generic Video Card"
Driver "vga" try with "ati" instead
EndSection

> It changes, in that it but it's not better. It complains about the

Right, AIGLX won't be enabled, but it is not important.
The possibly bad warnings that remain are:

INVALID IO ALLOCATION b: 0x2c00400 e: 0x2c004ff correcting
(WW) VGA(0): Cannot read colourmap from VGA. Will restore with default

But there is something strange, you have lots of line like:
(II) VGA(0): Not using default mode "640x350" (insufficient memory
for mode)
followed in the end by:
(WW) VGA(0): Mode pool is empty
All this could be caused by:
(==) VGA(0): videoRam: 64 kBytes.
Your ATI board probably has much more memory than that (maybe 8MB). The
ATI driver should detect it fine. If not, we could even hardcode it in
xorg.conf.

Let's see what you get with the ATI driver, the other warnings might be
related to the VGA driver. Try without DRI first.

Brice

Return a valid property info even if we lack valid value sets.

Previously, XRRQueryOutputProperty90 would return an uninitialized pointer
if
num_values was 0.

Avoid nested LockDisplay calls.

XRRFindDisplay must make extension requests that use LockDisplay, so don't
call it with the display locked, instead pass the info around to the
internal functions that were calling it themselves, having acquired the info
before the outer LockDisplay is called.

Change properties to have a pending value and report valid values.

Pending values are transferred to current values at mode set, allowing a

a reasonable list to the user during configuration.

Use only the major version, minor version, and major patch number
components of the Policy Manual revision in Standards-Version, because "the
minor patch level will be changed when only cosmetic, typographical or
other edits are made which neither change the meaning of the document nor
affect the contents of packages". See Policy Manual §5.6.11.

(The real reason for this commit, as with r2615, is to test tweaks to the
repository's commit-email.pl script.)

Author: Andres Salomon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date: Mon Jul 17 04:44:49 2006 +

Idempotency fixes; everywhere where we're using a separate build directory,
we tend to create it via "mkdir obj-$(foo)". This doesn't work if
rebuilding,
because the directory already exists. Instead, only create it if there's
no directory there already.
