Try to install libxcomposite1 from unstable, it just fixed my problem. I guess a versioned dependency is required. Yup, that fixed the problem for me (although now I've hit another one that's probably unrelated to this bug). cheers James -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Removing useless library dependancies from xmotd
Hi, I am trying to limit the number of libraries that xmotd links against, as advised by the recent post to d-d-a. The Imakefile contains: MOTD_LIBRARIES = $(XPM_LIB) $(HTML_LIB_DIR) $(HTML_LIB) $(MOTIF_LIB_DIR) $(MOTIF_LIB) LOCAL_LIBRARIES = $(MOTD_LIBRARIES) XawClientLibs By experimenting, I've found out that $(XMOTD_LIBRARIES) actually expands to an empty string, while XawClientLibs expands to: -lXaw -lXmu -lXt -lSM -lICE -lXpm -lXext -lX11 Which makes xmotd depend on uncecessary libraries. I did some grepping and found that (I don't know whether this is the right file, but others contain similar definitions): /usr/lib/X11/config/X11.tmpl:#define XawClientLibs $(XAWLIB) $(XMULIB) $(XTOOLLIB) $(XPMLIB) $(EXTRAXAWCLIENTLIBS) $(XLIB) So I experimented some more, and replaced the LOCAL_LIBRARIES definition with: LOCAL_LIBRARIES = $(MOTD_LIBRARIES) $(XAWLIB) Which in turn makes the linker arguments expand to just: -lXaw That seems sufficient, as xmotd still compiles and runs fine. Now some questions: - is it OK for me to make this modification in my package? Won't it break on some other (Debian) architecture? - maybe it's a good idea in general, and Debian xorg should be modified to expand XawClientLibs to just $(XAWLIB) ? regards, Marcin -- Marcin Owsiany <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://marcin.owsiany.pl/ GnuPG: 1024D/60F41216 FE67 DA2D 0ACA FC5E 3F75 D6F6 3A0D 8AA0 60F4 1216 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Report of successful Beryl packages build
Yesterday, I build Beryl (Compiz fork by Quinstorm and others), with the only quirk of installing libxcomposite 0.3.0 from incoming.debian.org. By now, I think libxcomposite is in unstable, so all requirements to build Beryl (and Compiz) are NOW in unstable. Please, use that version of libxcomposite, in order to avoid missed functions when executing (previous versions of the library DON'T work). My hardware is a Dell Inspiron 510m laptop, with i855GM with 128 MB shared memory (yes, it is rather slow, but works!!!). When building the packages, there is a small flaw, since there are a self-dependence, so the packages need a small corrections (I build it manually, and after building beryl-core, you have to install it in order to build the rest of packages: beryl, beryl-plugins, beryl-settings, emerald, emerald-theme-manager. For running Beryl, I followed the instructions on this page: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beryl. For Beryl source code, check out www.beryl-project.org. I hope this to help. If I moved a window from screen 1 to screen 0 (from radeon to tdfx), everything would be as expected until the mouse hit the edge. At that point, X just restarts and I am brought back to xdm. Bug#390359: xserver-xorg-video-i810: xserver crashes with a dual head config
Package: xserver-xorg-video-i810 Version: 2:1.6.5-3 Severity: important Hi! I'm not completely sure that this is a bug of the i810 driver, although it seems so. But, I suppose that it may be some other problem related with the newer version of the xserver... After the recent update to version 7.1 of the xorg xserver, which included the 1.6.5-3 version of the i810 driver, my X session crashes after a few seconds (sometimes one or two minutes) of making a login into my area. After the crash, the GDM tries to restart the xserver again, but with no success. I have to reboot the machine to be able to start X again, leading to another crash after I login in the GDM. The two particularities of my system are: - I use the 855resolution program to tweak the video BIOS so that I can use the 1400x1050 native resolution of my Asus M3N, which has a broken BIOS. - I have an xorg.conf configuration that specifies two screens (without xinerama) so that I can plug my laptop into a projector whenever I do presentations. I removed the call to the 855resolution but the problem persisted. When I change the xorg.conf to a single head configuration, however, the problem disappears. Thus, it seems to be a problem with the dual head configuration. The diff between the single head config (my current xorg.conf) and the config that causes the crash (xorg.conf.dualhead) is the following: == --- xorg.conf 2006-09-30 18:01:38.0 +0100 +++ xorg.conf.dualhead 2006-09-29 22:40:29.0 +0100 @@ -72,6 +72,21 @@ Driver "i810" BusID "PCI:0:2:0" VideoRam65536 +Option "MonitorLayout" "CRT,LFP" + Option "DRI" "true" +# Option "DDC" "false" + Screen 0 +EndSection + +Section "Device" + Identifier "Intel CRT" + Driver "i810" + BusID "PCI:0:2:0" + VideoRam65536 +Option "MonitorLayout" "CRT,LFP" + Option "DRI" "true" +# Option "DDC" "false" + Screen 1 EndSection Section "Monitor" @@ -117,11 +132,42 @@ EndSubSection EndSection +Section "Screen" +Identifier "CRT" +Device "Intel CRT" +Monitor"External Monitor" + DefaultDepth24 + SubSection "Display" + Depth 1 +Modes"1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" + EndSubSection + SubSection "Display" + Depth 4 +Modes"1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" + EndSubSection + SubSection "Display" + Depth 8 +Modes"1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" + EndSubSection + SubSection "Display" + Depth 15 +Modes"1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" + EndSubSection + SubSection "Display" + Depth 16 +Modes"1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" + EndSubSection + SubSection "Display" + Depth 24 +Modes"1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" + EndSubSection +EndSection + + Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" - Screen "LCD" -# Screen 0 "LCD" -# Screen 1 "CRT" + Screen 0 "LCD" + Screen 1 "CRT" InputDevice "Generic Keyboard" InputDevice "Configured Mouse" InputDevice "Synaptics Touchpad" == Note that the dualhead version works flawlessly with the previous version of the xserver and the i810 driver. Report of succesful Beryl packages build
My hardware is Dell Inspiron 510m, with i855GM with share memory (yes, it is slow, but works!!!). Bug#389335: compile problem
Hi there, since the family would be realy happy if they could watch TV again ;-) on our VIA EPIA-based MythTV box, I finally tried to compile the via driver from source. Bug#368558: marked as done (x11proto-gl: debian/copyright does not contain actual licenses)
Your message dated Sat, 30 Sep 2006 14:44:24 -0400 with message-id <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> and subject line Closing has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) --- Begin Message --- Package: x11proto-gl-dev Severity: serious Justification: Policy 2.3 The copyright file contains a copy of the license notices from the top of the header files. So far so good. HOWEVER, those notices do not contain the actual licenses. They merely refer to them by reference: http://oss.sgi.com/projects/FreeB and http://www.sgi.com/software/opensource/glx/license.html Policy requires that an actual verbatim copy of each license be included in the package. Neither license is in fact included in the package. (This is also quite dangerous; if those websites ever vanish, we have *no* license.) The FreeB license is available upstream only in two rather inconvenient formats: Postscript and Microsoft Word. Nevertheless, including the Postscript version is far better than the current situation. Unfortunately, it is not entirely clear that we actually have permission to redistribute the text of the FreeB license. Does anyone have a contact at SGI? This bug is independent from the bug regarding the freeness of these licenses. --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- This bug was fixed with the upload of 1.4.8-1 to unstable. Re: Removing useless library dependancies from xmotd
* Marcin Owsiany <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [060930 17:52]: > Now some questions: > - is it OK for me to make this modification in my package? Won't it >break on some other (Debian) architecture? i think all Debian architectures are similar enough that if it works on one, it should work on all of them. Some more things to check: Does it still link properly with "-Wl,-z,defs"? If you overlooked a library needed, the symbols will still be loaded as the library is pulled in later. If you want to be sure, take a look at all UND'efined symbols in objdump -T's output and make sure you have all of them in the libraries you are linking directly against. If you change anything with Xaw and/or Xt please make sure editres still works on your application. Xaw makes some funny little linker trick to modify Xt so that editres works by default, which fails if some symbols are loaded in the wrong order. > - maybe it's a good idea in general, and Debian xorg should be modified >to expand XawClientLibs to just $(XAWLIB) ? I fear it is a better idea to get rid of imake alltogether. While xmotd is unlikely to use anything from libxpm directly, other applications may. And as this was always linked against, applications do not otherwise state that they need it. > Hochachtungsvoll, Bernhard R. Bug#379480: X Key/Mouse Freeze might be time/clock based
Several of my friends and I have been having similar problems - X keyboard/mouse input occasionally freezing. The problem has been encountered on both i386 and AMD64 systems, with both nvidia and ati video cards, with both free and proprietary drivers. The interesting thing is that most of our systems would "freeze" at almost the exact same time each time it happened (once every few months). It happened again today, and three of our systems (in various locations around the city and state) all froze up during the same 1-2 minute period. So I started really looking into time-based triggers. During my troubleshooting experiments, I found that if the system clock is adjusted even a few seconds backward, X input will freeze up a few seconds later. For example: 1. Make sure any NTP software is turned off (since we want to know what changes are being made to the clock). 2. Execute the date command and then adjust the time back slightly (about 2 minutes backward is used in this example). # date Sat Sep 30 15:02:22 MDT 2006 # date -s 'Sat Sep 30 15:00:00 MDT 2006' Every time I tried this, X keyboard and mouse input would freeze up a few seconds later. Desktop applets like the system clock, CPU monitor, network activity, etc would all still be actively displaying (so the screen is still updating), but I would be unable to mouse between windows, hot-key between windows, type into the currently focused xterm, Ctrl-Alt-backspace to kill X, or Ctrl-Alt-F2 to a terminal window. ssh'ing in from another computer and then stopping gdm and/or X would allow me to recover, restart X and run other test scenarios. Can those of you who are also having this problem try the clock adjustment test above and see if you have the same results? How many of you who are experiencing the problem are running NTP synchronization software on your system? I should also note that I could adjust the clock forward as much as I wanted with no adverse effects (I had test cases of moving forward a few seconds, a few minutes, a few hours, and almost an entire day), but any adjustment of the clock backward from its current setting triggered the problem. I'm running openbox, and my friends were both running GNOME (one on top of openbox and one on top of metacity). I had the same results in my tests whether the X session was started through GDM or from startx on the command line, and the same results whether xscreensaver was running or not. My theory on the three computers having having the problem at the same time is that a small backward re-adjustment may have propagated through the NTP servers we're using - which triggered the problem. For those of you who are experiencing this problem more frequently, if you have worse than average clock drift and are running NTP software, your system would probably be having to "skip" the clock back more often than most on most systems. Or you may be using a very "jittery" NTP server. People who aren't running NTP probably wouldn't encounter the problem. But please respond to this if you are experiencing this and don't use NTP (every data point can help track down a bug). Anyway, hopefully this helps track down the problem. It's chrony I'm using, which, I believe, doesn't set the clock backward, but adjusts the speed of the clock instead. Regulas ASCII keyboard characters still work oafter a freeze -- if I happen to be in a shell at the time the mouse freezes, I can still go on merrily entering commands. Yes, this true for me, too, except that it's all so slow that ssh times out during login. But if I'm alreaddy ssh'd in, I can do things -- slowly. Bug: xserver-xorg-video-ati does not work with dual output Radeon X700
Hi All, I am a newbie with debian and wish to report a bug. I hope this is the right place to do so. I tried to do it throug the bug reporting tool that comes with the gnome desktop but it didn't have the xserver as an option. The driver xserver-xorg-video-ati does not work with X700 ati radeon dual output Video cards. The error message from /var/log/Xorg.0.log is: (II) Primary Device is: PCI 01:00:0 (II) ATI: Candidate "Device" section "ATI Technologies, Inc. Radeon X700 (RV410)". (WW) ATI: PCI Mach64 in slot 1:0:0 could not be detected! (WW) ATI: PCI Mach64 in slot 1:0:1 could not be detected! (EE) No devices detected.
