debian/patches status: 024-030

2004-01-15 Thread Nathanael Nerode

024_ati_busmaster_vt_switch_hang_fix

The code on this has *compeletely* changed upstream. The key point is
this change:
 367. When enabling PCI adapters, also enable their bus mastering
capability;

Consequently, deprecate xf86EnablePciBusMaster() (Marc La France).

This is at
xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/drivers/ati/r128_dri.c @ 1.24
xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/drivers/ati/radeon_dri.c @ 1.18
(and presumably other files were changed at the same time)

Perhaps this patch is irrelevant after that upstream change.
If not, obviously it would need a lot of work to update it.

026_tdfx_double_buffering_for_xvideo

Present in upstream 4.3.0 (literally this patch):

 424. Add support for double-buffering to the tdfx driver's XVideo overlay
  support (#5415, Stephen Davies).

027_abnt2_keycode_fix
-
This is just a comment patch!

A different and presumably more accurate comment patch went in upstream.
for 4.3.0. In HEAD, lots of little changes have been made to this file,
including some which touch the same code.

I would declare this irrelevant.

028_buffalo_proctology
--
Patches several different yacc files with different fates. One
(xc/lib/Xft/xftgram.y) doesn't exist in 3.4.0, and the rest of the
patches are in upstream 3.4.0.

029_xdmcp_Wrap.h_fixes
--
Not present upstream, apparently not in sid patches.
Should apply unchanged (since the file didn't change from 4.0 through
4.3 branch), but the patch needs a new number, of course.
(A different and weirder change is in HEAD, but this patch looks more
correct than that.)

030_ship_more_extension_headers
---
Present in upstream 4.3.0:

xc/include/extensions/Imakefile @ 3.49
 406. Install extension struct/protocol headers that weren't already
  being installed (#5369, Branden Robinson).

Bug#227867: libxrender1: libXrender diversion breaks libXrender.so link

2004-01-15 Thread herbert
Package: libxrender1
Version: 0.8.3-4
Severity: normal

If libxrender1/xlibs/xlibs-dev are installed without libxrender1-dev,
then you will end up with a broken libXrender.so symlink. This would
have been harmless except that libXrender.a still exists and is valid.

This may cause shared libraries to be accidentally built with the
static libXrender library. So either the libXrender.so symlink should
be made valid in this situation or we should divert libXrender.a as
well.

Can all three of you gentlemen (the bug submitter, Mr. Gevaerts, Mr.
Turkal) please mail your /var/log/XFree86.0.log files to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

It doesn't have to be an instance where the server locks up. Just one

No, I mean that I want manpages to be able to say:

malloc(__oslibmansuffix__), mouse(__osdrivermansuffix__),

Sure. You may want to improve the description of the patch now that I
have bothered to explain it. :)

I don't think that is sufficient reason to split a package. XFree86
already produces a dizzying number of binary packages. I'm open to
other arguments why splitting imake might be a good idea, though.

Making patches smaller/more sane/etc. is good and valuable work, and I
appreciate your efforts to make the 4.4 cycle less user-angering than
4.3's has been. However, we must take care not to throw out the baby with
the bathwater. :)

The files currently in trunk that aren't mentioned in the patch-forward
list were added after that list was created. There *shouldn't* be any
regressions or loss of code in those. In fact I think I'm the only
person who has been applying patch updates the trunk, and I have tried
to be conscientous about keeping branches-4.3.0-sid in sync.

On reflection, though, it probably would have made my work more
verifiable if I had added those patch files to the TODO list and set
their status myself.

In lieu of that,

svn log svn://necrotic.deadbeast.net/xfree86/trunk/debian/patches

...should help with this.

For small patches I don't think it's a big deal to have them in the
generic "stolen from HEAD" patch.

Thank you very much for your improved annotations.

I've committed all this to SVN.

If one just wants to configure the mouse, and then jump directly to
the end where we are asked about writing the file, maybe a ^C or ^D
could do that, and be noted on the man page.

Well, I haven't gotten as far as dumping the registers, but I came
across Permedia2VPreInit in pm2v_dac.c, and forced it to call
Permedia2VPreInitSecondary(pScrn) unconditionally.

I also changed a few things seemingly related to linux-kernel-headers to
get the thing to compile, and it improved the situation. Now there is a
mild amount of distortion and flicker. The really bad part is that if I
drag an open window, it will turn into a block of noise, somewhat
related to the colors of the root window. Also, X now detects 8 megs of
memory on that card.

Attached is XFree86.0.log after putting #define DEBUG 1 at the top of
pm2v_dac.c. For some reason this makes the right head usable, but the
left head is at the wrong resolution and distorted.

This is a pre-release version of XFree86, and is not supported in any
way. Bugs may be reported to XFree86@XFree86.Org and patches submitted
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Before reporting bugs in pre-release versions,
please check the latest version in the XFree86 CVS repository
(http://www.XFree86.Org/cvs).

Hi,

The debian/rules file that is shipped with xlibmesa-drm-src does not
support a binary-modules target, only the kdist_* targets that make-kpkg
calls. This, along with #212186 makes it very hard to build against Debian
kernels.

Hello,

AFAICSs the current dpkg-deb requires to have a Source: line in
debian/rules. However, your file in the modules source does not have
one, so make-kpkg &Co. break on it.

dh_gencontrol
dpkg-gencontrol: error: source paragraph in control info file is missing Source
line
dh_gencontrol: command returned error code 6400

MfG,
Eduard.
