Sigh. Well, this is a brand new problem so I am cloning the bug to make
a report with the Debian Bug Tracking System.

Can you send the new bug the output of the following commands?

$ dpkg -S usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1
$ dpkg -S libXft

I don't know what the new bug number will be yet, but it will probably
be assigned by the time you read this. Just go to http://bugs.debian.org/192138 >, scroll to the bottom, and see what bug
192138 was "cloned as". Then mail that bugnumber @bugs.debian.org.

Thank you!

Package: xdm
Version: 4.1.0-16

It is not possible to chose an own logo for the login screen via xdm in
/etc/X11/xdm/Xresources. The login widget shows the text only. The
delivered logos  (debian.xpm, debianbw.xpm, XFree86.xpm, XFree86bw.xpm)
can be used without any problems.

One may (hopefully) reproduce the error the following way:

* In /etc/X11/xdm/pixpaps:

/etc/X11/xdm/pixmaps# cp debian.xpm test.xpm
/etc/X11/xdm/pixmaps# ls -l
(...)
-rw-r--r--1 root root54701 16. Apr 2002  debian.xpm
-rw-r--r--1 root root54701  3. Okt 12:05 test.xpm
(...)

* Changing /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xresources:

(...)
#if PLANES >= 8
  xlogin*logoFileName: /etc/X11/xdm/pixmaps/test.xpm
! xlogin*LogoFileName: /etc/X11/xdm/pixmaps/debian.xpm
#else
(...)

* Restarting X

* In /var/log/xdm.log:
xdm error (pid 961): Unable to stat() pixmap file
/etc/X11/xdm/pixmaps/test.xpm

* A small C-program shows no difference of stat()-return values, of
course:
---snip--: test.c :---
#include
#include
#include
#include

const char test[]   = "/etc/X11/xdm/pixmaps/test.xpm";
const char debian[] = "/etc/X11/xdm/pixmaps/debian.xpm";

int main()
{
  struct stat* buf;
  printf("stat(\"%s\", buf) = %d \n",
 test, stat(test,buf));
  printf("stat(\"%s\", buf) = %d \n",
 debian, stat(debian,buf));

  return 0;
}
---snap---

* It returns:

# ./test
stat("/etc/X11/xdm/pixmaps/test.xpm", buf) = 0
stat("/etc/X11/xdm/pixmaps/debian.xpm", buf) = 0

* I'm using Debian GNU/Linux 2.4, Kernel 2.4.18-bf2.4, libc 2.2.5

Thanks a lot for any useful hint.

Cheers,
Matthias

After the s390-specific commits I made today, Bastian seems to have had
a successful build of a (modified) 4.3.0-0pre1v3.

Bug#215130: xserver-xfree86: Add an option to disable automatic screen blanking (DPMS)

2003-10-10 Thread Robert Derochette
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.2.1-12.1
Severity: wishlist

In order to disable automatic screen blanking, I had to edit my
XF86Config-4, thus disable "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" automatic
configuration. However, I couldn't find an option to disable DPMS in
dpkg-reconfigure, it would be a great feature to add.

Thanks very much and keep the good work !

Regards,

Robert Derochette

2003-10-10 Thread Friedrich Delgado Friedrichs
Package: xterm
Version: 4.2.1-12.1
Severity: normal
Followup-For: Bug #131155

On this System (with xterm 4.2.1-12.1), the -fa option *or* specifying
the XTerm*fontName resource results in an antialiased font, but it's
always the same font (possibly Courier, but with wrong kerning and
spacing). The -fs switch (or the XTerm*fontSize resource) is
respected.

After the s390-specific commits I made today, Bastian seems to have had
a successful build of a (modified) 4.3.0-0pre1v3.

Bug#215130: xserver-xfree86: Add an option to disable automatic screen blanking (DPMS)

2003-10-10 Thread Robert Derochette
Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.2.1-12.1
Severity: wishlist

In order to disable automatic screen blanking, I had to edit my
XF86Config-4, thus disable "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" automatic
configuration. However, I couldn't find an option to disable DPMS in
dpkg-reconfigure, it would be a great feature to add.

Thanks very much and keep the good work !

Regards,

Robert Derochette

2003-10-10 Thread Friedrich Delgado Friedrichs
Package: xterm
Version: 4.2.1-12.1
Severity: normal
Followup-For: Bug #131155

On this System (with xterm 4.2.1-12.1), the -fa option *or* specifying
the XTerm*fontName resource results in an antialiased font, but it's
always the same font (possibly Courier, but with wrong kerning and
spacing). The -fs switch (or the XTerm*fontSize resource) is
respected.

To be complete, please note that UTF-8 and [EMAIL PROTECTED] are only
aliases, If your locale.alias is intended to be exhaustivem then
you should add these aliases. If you want to keep it small, don't
add them.

Bug#215171: remove xfree86v3 from unstable

2003-10-10 Thread Adrian Bunk
Package: xfree86v3
Version: 3.3.6-44
Severity: grave

Hi Branden,

to my knowledge, the current status of xfree86v3 is:

- it's only needed for some old graphics cards that aren't supported
  by XFree86 4.x
- noone cares enough to maintain it
- there are no security fixes (DSA-380 suggests to remove the
  packages from xfree86v3)

I suggest to remove xfree86v3 from unstable.
If someone _really_ needs one of the packages he can still download
the woody packages.

If you agree with removing xfree86v3 from unstable, please reassign
this bug to ftp.debian.org.

If you disagree, simply close this bug.

I don't know for sure, but this could be because there is only one
monospaced anti-aliased font available for use by Xft on your system.
