nvidia kernel module and GLX
Dear all! I apologise in advance for my lack of any real knowledge here, and am sorry if this has been covered before and/or is annoying people, but...! I've installed XFree 4v26 and it seemed ok - no error messages etc; I use an Nvidia TNT2 M64 card, and got the kernel module and the GLX files from NVidia. However, both refused to compile. I figured that I needed /usr/src/linux to point to /usr/src/kernel-source... but that didn't solve it either. I've tried downloading the rpms and using alien, and have scratched my head a lot! Basically, XFree starts, but does not load any window manager, plus, when I kill the server, the consoles have darkened, and the entire colour set seems to have altered - the blues of mutt are now green. An XFree86 -configure exits with: XFree86 Version 4.0.1d / X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6400) Release Date: 27 October 2000 If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is newer than the above date, look for a newer version before reporting problems. If that doesn't fix things, move it back, and move the other one away to nv_drv.o.NVidia or nvidia_drv.o.NVidia. See what that does. If neither fixes your problem, then perhaps another post would be in order, this time with much more details -- kernel version, platform, your XF86Config{-4} file, whether or not putting "twm" into your .xsession causes a window manager to start, etc. (BTW -- this will show my ignorance in a real hurry -- should that be "exec twm" or just "twm" in the .xsession? It looks as if you have defined your videocard to use both the nv driver (standard XF4.0) and nvidia (new nvidia with GLX). So my guess would be finding the line in which the nvidia is supplied as Driver. -- Best Regards / Venlig Hilsen Rasmus Toftdahl Olesen [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://halfdan.dyndns.org
Re: Misdetection of Voodoo3?
Hi, kernel seems recent to me ;-). Did you enable AGP support in the kernel for your chipset (I know there is no agp on 3dfx, anyway)? Did you compile the 3dfx module from the dri sources tree ? Or did you use that from the kernel ? Which XF4.01 do you use ? Brandens *.debs or the cvs sources compiled for you from dri.sourceforge.net ? I had lots of luck by using the kernel modules for the graphics adapter from the dri.sourceforge.net cvs. But since I use the cvs sources that should be the way to go. Sometimes the drm from the kernel is not in sync with a)early releases of XF4.01 (like brandens) or b) the cvs stuff from the dri project. So what I do is I get the sources from dri.sourceforge.net build the kernel module from /path-to-dri-source/xc/Xserver/hw/xfree86/os-support/linux/drm/kernel with make -f Makefile.linux. I might recall that there are two different drm versions (1. and 2.) which might not be functioning together. So what XF4.01 version are you using ? MAybe your kernel is to "new" in terms of DRI/DRM code. Hm, hope that helped a bit. Sorry if I overlooked critical information supplied by you. Greetings Michael
Re: Misdetection of Voodoo3?
Not sure if this'll help or not.. I had the same problem, ever after re-compiling the Voodoo 3 DRM module. In the device section, I had to specifically state I was using a Voodoo 3: Section "Device" Identifier "Voodoo3" Driver "tdfx" VendorName "3dfx" EndSection Now that I think about it, this may be mentioned in the Voodoo 3 section of the DRI User's Guide at dri.sourceforge.net. nvidia kernel module and GLX
Rest of list? :) -- ``Oh Lord; Ooh you are so big; So absolutely huge; Gosh we're all really impressed down here, I can tell you.'' -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". It looks as if you have defined your videocard to use both the nv driver (standard XF4.0) and nvidia (new nvidia with GLX). So my guess would be finding the line in which the nvidia is supplied as Driver. -- Best Regards / Venlig Hilsen Rasmus Toftdahl Olesen [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://halfdan.dyndns.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
