Sounds like a good idea to me. But what to do with them? I think that
applicants that have not found an advocate after, say, 4 weeks should
be removed.

In my understanding someone who applies as NM should know who would
advocate him (his sponsor/mentor etc.). Hence 4 weeks still seem
reasonable to me.

I thought we AMs are supposed to look in the member db for someone
who could sign the key, not just on the keysigning coordonation page.
At least that is what I do in cases where the applicant can't find
someone by himself.

Where exactly in Germnay does Michael live?

I think we should try to push applicants to make some serious effort
to have their key signed. In the case of Michael (under the hypothesis
that he really is based in Ulm) it seems reasonable to expect that he arranges
something with a developer in Stuttgart or Augsburg.

On the other hand I understand that AMs can not always evaluate the
situation when they don't know the country of the applicant. In this
case why not ask for help on this list? I'll be glad to answer that
type of question for France and Germany, for instance.

thanks for sending out these reports, I hope it will help to find new
maintainers for our (too) numerous orphaned packages.

You might want to set the locale of your cronjob. The reports will
obviously be more useful when the package descriptions are in english.

De we really want a page judging the merits of individual maintainers?
I do not think so.

The old service at edos.debian.net is no longer updated (since several
months). Please use the new service at http://qa.debian.org/dose/debcheck.html
which doesn't have the XML files yet, but that will change soon.

Bug#203861: keysingning HOWTO : upload to keyring only if you are maintainer

2003-08-02 Thread Ralf Treinen
Package: www.debian.org
Version: as of August 2, 2003
Severity: minor

The key signing HOWTO on http://www.debian.org/events/keysigning
says:

  # If someone signs your key in this manner, you can add it to the
  # Debian keyring by doing:

   gpg --import mysigned.key
   gpg --keyserver keyring.debian.org --send-keys

It may take a while for the keyring maintainers to update your key so be
patient. You should also upload your updated key to the public
  keyservers.

Please add here, similar as it is already the case further above
in the document:

If your key is not yet in the Debian keyring, replace keyring.debian.org
with a public keyserver like wwwkeys.pgp.net (which despite the name also
  stores GnuPG keys.)

In fact the right contact address for cases like this is
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (yes I know that it should be listed on the web
page :-) We (gpg-coord) can also help you to find a debian member near
you in case you cannot find someone from the web page.

Carl: could you please tell us the address you tried to contact,

Personally, I won't be able to do much before I am back from VAC
end of July, but then I will be glad to help.
