If “system” is DSA-administered, I think bpo is the way to go, they
don't install hand-built packages (anymore AFAIUI).

I just found a work-around for #514932, I believe. The specific
call to xsltproc does not happen, if one calls dblatex with
--no-external. We don't use "external" data in the release
notes, so it should work. Already in the r-n Makefile. No need
to panic-update dblatex.

I will give it a manual run and see how long it takes. Hopefully we can
call the case closed then and I can reactivate the automatic build in
the often run again.

Not sure whether there is some political problem here but according
to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovene_language:

ISO 639-1: sl
ISO 639-2: slv
ISO 639-3: slv

OK, did it.

for i in $(find -type f -name "*.wml"); do
  iconv -f iso-8859-2 -t utf-8 $i > $i.new && mv $i.new $i;
done

Also I edited slovak/.wmlrc. That should be all which is required.
(There are no *.inc files or whatever.)

A local build works fine.

PS: Yep, I know it's not a good time for major changes. But since only
very few files are translated into Slovak it should be OK.

Thanks, committed!

A few notes:
 * If you are the new Slovak translation coordinator please subscribe to
the list. It is not a high volume list. Also add yourself to
   http://www.debian.org/devel/website/translation_coordinators
 * slovak/releases/lenny/release.data should not be committed as the file
from english/ is used. Also the Makefile should just contain:
   include $(subst webwml/slovak,webwml/english,$(CURDIR))/Makefile

This reuses the English makefile without code duplication.
 * I suggest you use ... as quotes instead of “...”.
This has the advantage that it is easier to read and much easier to
change (just edit the CSS file).
 * I converted the WML files to UTF-8. Please send only UTF-8 in future.

> If you prefer to receive patches, please tell me the correct cvs diff

New files should never send as patch. I did it already well.

> Please keep me in CC.

PS: Please check the HTML validy as referred from
http://www.debian.org/devel/website/desc#help
You may also want to check the build log from time to time:
http://www-master.debian.org/build-logs/webwml/

PS2: If you find an error in a English file report it!

Maybe you could do two things:

- measure "make pdf LINGUA=en architecture=armel"
  and
- measure "make pdf LINGUA=zh_CN architecture=armel"
(that way you don't have to run the full build)

The first one uses dblatex, the other uses xmlroff. I hope, that
the latter does not have any issues anyway, but I would like to
be sure. Many thanks for helping!

The manual runs did make me much more happier: 95 minutes a blind run,
an shortly afterwards started second run did take 45 minutes. It's still
quite some time, but it does for the moment eliminate the overlapping of
often runs. Further optimization though would be still appreciated. ;)

About your suggestion to check the time difference between LINGUA=en
and LINGUA=zh_CN, not completely sure when I'll find the time for it.

I think, we can/should optimize po4a. It was already slow (with
slow = "po4a-translate takes a significant part of the
compilation time"), but got even a little bit slower in lenny.

No need to do it: That was only, if you didn't want to do the
full run manually, which you already did anyway :~)

www.debian.org vs. UTF-8

2009-02-12 Thread W. Martin Borgert
Hi admins,

when I browse e.g.
http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/alpha/release-notes.en.txt
in Iceweasel, the browser ignores my default character set
(UTF-8) and interprets the text as whatever. This is probably an
Iceweasel bug, but anyway: it looks very bad. Currently
www.debian.org does not send encoding information. Can we set
this explicitly to UTF-8 for all the broken browser out there? I
believe, that most of the Debian txt files should be UTF-8 (or
ASCII), right?

Thanks in advance!

That's not something that should be changed now, but after Lenny is
released, you should try copying /usr/share/perl5/Locale/Po4a/Xml.pm to
lib/Locale/Po4a/Xml.pm and applying
https://alioth.debian.org/plugins/scmcvs/cvsweb.php/po4a/lib/Locale/Po4a/Xml.pm.diff?r1=1.84;r2=1.85;cvsroot=po4a;f=h

This improved a lot (x10?) the speed of the Xml and derivative modules in
the upstream tree.

It would be preferable to get the Docbook.pm and Wml.pm from the same
po4a version.

Best Regards,

Actually, it appears that most of the .txt files on the website use
some variant of ISO 8859.

Does anyone know how to configure Apache to use UTF-8 for part of the

Could we (well, not now, but after release) change all files
into UTF-8? The problem with 8859 is, that it is ambiguous.
With find -exec iconv etc. it should be easy. And harmonise
towards UTF-8 would be good anyway.
