Hi,

I'm following the discussion about a new face for debian with big
interest. I was wondering why the specification for a new layout [0]
doesn't cover alioth [1]. I think it should be integrated with the rest
of the site as well. Or are there any arguments against?

rein
privatwirtschaftliche Kredite z.B. der deutschen Bank, Stipendien usw.) werden  
dargestellt. 
Durch eine Linkliste mit den wichtigsten Studentenseiten kann die Recherche  
vertieft werden. 

Es werden auch Studienfinanzierungssysteme anderer Ländern und Ideen zur 
Verbesserung der Mittelverwendung
dargestellt. In einem Forum können sich Studenten mit anderen Studenten 
austauschen.

Das Zusammenstellen der Informationen und das Darstellen der Optionen hat mir 
viel Spaß gemacht.
Mich würde es freuen, wenn Sie die Seite mit einem Link bzw. einem Beitrag im
Forum unterstützen.

 It might be more difficult for there because you would need quite a lot
for do it properly for gforge - but that doesn't mean that it wouldn't
be wanted or won't happen, but it's not considered to be in the main
focus right now.

 Besides propably there are all the various *.alioth.d.o pages which go
with what they like for themself anyway, too.

 Please never do an automatic update on CVE numbers if you think it
contains wrong values - always doublecheck them with the database.  I
can well be that one issue received a CVE ID back in 2006 already but
was fixed only recently.

This wasn't true for CVE-2006-0908 (instead of CVE-2007-0908) in
DSA-1264-1. But feel free to check again ...

PS: I missed both in the subject mentioned DSAs on the home page for at
least one day. Since I fixed the date already a few days ago it seems
there was no build during multiple days!

 I don't really want to dig though the makefiles about what triggers a
rebuild of the frontpage - but I guess an update to a file doesn't where
a new entry would.  There is of course that one cronjob that rebuilds
everything to make up for such glitches, but that runs very rarely, I
think only once a week...

 There is no CUR_LOCALE in that file which I greped for.  Now that you
mention it there seem to be some more missing too, I only hit 19 through
that where there are 34 ...

Chinese source code is converted into all three dialects:
zh_CN.GB2312
zh_HK.Big5-hkscs
zh_TW.Big5

I'm not sure whether these are required for build but I suggest to
create these as well.

The .wmlrc file is OK, it cannot contain all three encodings but only
one.

PS: Don't forget to restart the build of the website, maybe after
touching all files?!

Why is the locales file cleared? Did someone upgraded www-master or
happened a new install? In this case many packages for DDP (Vietnamese
LaTeX, ...) will be missing probably as well.

No you're wrong. It something assimilar to $(wildcard
security/$(CUR_YEAR)/*.wml) in the target rule which causes a rebuild if
a new DSA is added and if an existing one is changed ...

I didn't know of such a cronjob, are you sure? I suggested already in
the past to do a global "make clean" (or better rm -rf ...) followed by
a "make publish" to workaround Makefile issues, but IIRC Joey denied
this because it would be too time consuming.

 Those yielded no real problem, should be done through the next released
DSA and an often cron run at least for the frontpage, will monitor that
myself.

 I know.  That doesn't though define what the files should be in and/or
what locale file it depends on the system - which I expect someone from
the chinese team to be able to help with and why I Cc'ed the former mail
to all of them.

 That's why I Cc'ed them in my former mail, guesswork I can do on my
own, thanks.  :)

 It will eventually be rebuilt anyway like I mentioned, there's a full
build run at least once a week, and as I'm not in the webmaster team I
can't trigger it myself.

 No idea - a question most propably better aimed at the DSA team and not
the -www list, if you like.

 Can you check beforehand if that is true before bothering the DSA team?
It's quite frustrating with being bothered about false positives at
times...

No, how should I do this? I once debugged a Korean font problem by
adapting a Makefile of a DDP project, sending all important output to
stdout and obtained this from log file. But such work is probably an
abuse of my commit rights ...

There is a partial Vietnamese translation of Release Notes which would
require the texlive-lang-vietnamese package. I'm almost sure it was
never installed before ...

A proper check for missing packages is probably to force a rebuild of
all generated documents.

OK, I will watch the build logs and remember to ask for required
packages if I cannot reproduce a FTBFS ...
