Fw: Who's using Debian

2003-09-29 Thread Rafael M Puyau
Dear All,

I sent a message in 09/16/2003 about our migration to Debian GNU/Linux OS. I
would like to know when will I see these information and comments on Debian
GNU/Linux Web Site ?! Is it possible or applicable ?!

Thanks once again.

We had computers that ran Windows OS, but it was very expensive for us. For
this reason we've started to research Linux World for one year to find out
if it is a stable, robust and secure distribution. Well, we came to a
logical conclusion, we found Debian GNU/Linux. We installed Debian in all
of the computers like: servers, workstations and laptops. Each day, we are
learning about Debian but the whole company knows that Debian is the most
secure, stable and robust distribution of GNU/Linux. We are very satisfied
with this choice.

Thanks to all Debian's Developers.

I usually take care of the submissions, but have been rather busy lately;
I will, however, add your submission very soon.

Thanks for chosing Debian!

That sounds a bit crude to me. How about:

Many people wish to contribute to Debian and first try to become official
developers, even though that's not necessary. In fact, we recommend that
people start contributing as soon as possible, and then later proceed to
make their developer status official.

It leaves out the rationale but I don't think the original rationale sounds
too inciting, and with this verbiage it shouldn't be too necessary.

Don't wrap , add the missing slash to the l.d.o URLs, extend the FAQ link
to the word "list's".

Again, that sounds a bit ad hoc. How about:

It's also possible to contribute to Debian in other ways, such as
donating resources, helping with bug reports, writing and/or
translating documentation and software, etc. Some of these things can
help Debian even more than packaging, and they usually don't require going
through the complex process of becoming an official developer.

That should put a much more positive spin on contributing without being
a developer, which is necessary because people are usually wary of that.

Hello,

Somewhere in version 2.1.8 menu dropped cmap.xmp
The menu policy page still tell about the 24 colors,
and how to convert to ( mogrify -format xmp blabla -mcmap.xpm )

However I didn't have a cmap.xpm on my unstable system.

A manually download and manually unpack 2.1.5 provided me the file.

Please put cmap.xpm back in the package.

Gah! Fucking ordering. I've switched to ls -t (mtime instead of ctime).
It also fixes two other documents (others are unchanged).

Thanks for the bug report.

Package: www.debian.org
Version: as of August 2, 2003
Severity: minor

The key signing HOWTO on http://www.debian.org/events/keysigning
says:

  # If someone signs your key in this manner, you can add it to the
  # Debian keyring by doing:

   gpg --import mysigned.key
   gpg --keyserver keyring.debian.org --send-keys

It may take a while for the keyring maintainers to update your key so be
patient. You should also upload your updated key to the public
  keyservers.

Please add here, similar as it is already the case further above
in the document:

If your key is not yet in the Debian keyring, replace keyring.debian.org
with a public keyserver like wwwkeys.pgp.net (which despite the name also
  stores GnuPG keys.)

-Ralf.

Hi.

I moved the note about keyring.d.o vs. public keyservers to the top and
made clear that it applies to all examples.

It is in CVS, will be updated in the next hours.
