 Yes, google is good.  And it was always clear that our mailing-lists
are archived publically, for history, for beeing able to search for
problem solutions and so on.

 No, we don't do such things.  Removing your mail would make Christian
Marillants reply quite senseless in the archive, wouldn't it?  You sent
the mail to the list, it's there, and we won't change the history.  It
was never a secret that our lists are archived, and people sending there
have by that agreed with it, like an almost all mailinglists that are
there available around the globe.  Otherwise they shouldn't mail the
list.

mnoGoSearch - and the navigation

hello,
i saw that the mngosearch dont work as it should :)
it displays the "select a server near u" stuff on each search result,
here is a little perl script that should fix that stuff (perhaps it dont
outputs 100% good html but for the indexer it makes no difference) :
u have to add the following line to the indexer.conf

search for files in packages

Hi,

 I spend a long part of my night to find the package with the
file named gnome-config. I looked everywhere and especially
in the http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages page, but
only in the "Search Package Directories" since the next
section "Search the Contents of the Latest Release" was
irrelevant for me (I supposed so). 

 Now a friend showed me how to do and I have the answer I was
looking for. But I'm sure I'm not the only one who looks for
a special file, try to find in which package it is, and just
look in the Search Package section. So what would you think
to add a third choice for the "Search on" in this section ?
We would have 

Search on: ( ) Package names only ( ) Descriptions (x) Files

 The Graal would be to have just one interface. With all the default
choice it would be as simple to use as rpmfind, a engine which
searches in all the descriptions of the packages, files included.
For advanced users it should keep the options as it is now.

 Last, maybe the form should be in the top of the page.

 No, exactly this search would have been the thing you looked for.
Please take a look at the description:

 It states quite clearly that it's for file-search.  What part was
misleading to you?  Maybe we could update the wording to make it more
clear.

 It is not really possible to do it in just a single form - there are
different options for that two searches, and it would confuse the people
and may make them think that there is a difference in the package
descriptions for the different architectures, or on the other hand that
the section could have influence on a file search.

 That would just confuse the people even more.

 That could be right, I guess.  On the other hand, it's not my job to
decide that, personally I think at least a  link
at the top to the search forms would be great to help the people scroll
down.

They should be enclosed by the  stuff, just like the
language list. I have been meaning to fix that, but haven't come round to
yet.

new check_trans.pl

Hello,

I just commited a new version of this script, which merge what I had
locally and what could be found in the cvs. This adds the -t option, to get
the 'translated diff'. Just try it, you'll see what it is.

I've tested it locally, and I think it's ok, but I can't be sure it will
work on every version of perl. Please test it, and repport any breakage so
that I can fix it.

Having it in CVS is always a good idea since that will make modification
visible quite simple.  Apart from that, if the file is required for building
the website it should be in the webwml cvs - but I've said that before ...

These changes are not required, but I explained in

why adding trailing slash in empty elements in template files is IMHO a good
idea.

In fact, I already committed this patch and announced it on
  http://lists.debian.org/debian-www/2001/debian-www-200109/msg00011.html
because many pages seemed to be affected by this problem.

It may be too much to expect that somebody who plans to insert >50MB
to inform people in time, not more than half a year ago.  And I am
pretty sure that you haven't told us that you plan to insert more
than 50MB of binary crap to the web server/cvs server, also created
with non-free - and crappy by design - software which we cannot modify
in any way.

Ask the people a couple of days before, discuss issues with them and
they will be happy about your committement.  Forget that and get
the result for that.  Sorry, but that's life.  And I'm still getting
upset even though I took a one month rest.  You may have failed to
see that I have maintained /events/ for a while now and that I was
about the only person working on it.  Then while I was away you
came and created that mess, without prior contact to Joy, jt or
even f*cking me.

In HTML, some end tags are optional, e.g. , , usw.
Next generation is XHTML, which is based upon XML.  In XML, all
end tags are mandatory, but one can write  instead of
.

I suggested to adopt this syntax now in template files, because this change
allows generation of both HTML and XHTML files.  OTOH, WML cannot generate
XHTML files if templates are not XHTML-compliant.
So I see only benefits for this change, the only problem is our habits, this
is why I volunteered to slightly adapt templates when translating them.

You don't have to follow these changes if you don't like them, they are
currently a no-op, but they will become useful when w.d.o switches to XHTML.

1.161". I'm looking consultants.data but didn't find anything conclusive.
