New .ca server

1999-09-05 Thread Jason Gunthorpe

Looks like www.ca.debian.org is toasted - does anyone know of any other
.ca sites that are mirroring the web site?

Excellent idea. Here is a preliminary list, I just looked for .tar.gz files
in unstable that were not .orig.tar.gz files. I made 3 lists, actually. But
I know the first list is incomplete, because some things like cfingerd and
sysklogd didn't show up by this method and I had to add them by hand.

Packages with debian developers as thier upstream maintainers, that may be
in use by people outside debian. I have marked packages I'm sure are in use
elsewhere with a star.

Add to this list: sxid (and remove it from list #3).

Well there's always va. But I suppose that's not very helpful.

Oh! The list is way longer than I thought. Something you can also
add: cgilib, dbview, uucpsend. For apcd the Debian maintainer is
the de-facto maintainer, userv is used outside of Debian.

The packages I maintain upstream do have a .orig.tar.gz: stat, watchdog and
ecpg which is part of postgres.

web pages should be updating properly now

I just closed a slice in common_translation.wml so the pages
should be updating properly now.

Yes, this means I'm back from vacation. I never though I could
get tired of Chinese food, but discovered it is possible.

ok, I did that.

We're a fairly loquacious bunch, having generated 1.3 GB of list
archives through the years. debian-user is averaging around 135
messages/day so far this year.

It looks like I can save about 95 MB, not too insignificant, by
compressing debian-changes and debian-devel-changes from 1998. Old
postings from those lists aren't too interesting. Does anybody have
any problems with that? I wanted to ask before I did it because
undoing is expensive, bandwidth wise.

Compressing a list brings it down to about 1/8 the size, which is good
as it means we probably don't ever need to outright delete archives.
We can always compress to save space.

Add

 * gnumach

here. For Hurd and gnumach the following is true: Sometimes we add code to
the official release that shall not be part of the upstream source
(temporary or Debian specific hacks). Then I upload with a orig.tar.gz to
make this discrimination.

Thanks,

Re: [thompson@wpi.com: Show Favorites Awards--logo pickup]

This is a worthwhile award. Should we show such images on our site for a
short period or create a page for them?

I'd appreciate it if someone volunteered to do the work for whichever
we decide to go with (should be quite simple).

If you are looking for a web maintainer for this "new" page then I'll
volunteer for it. Is it awards for the website or the distribution?

I maintain the upstream versions of:

 libax25
 ax25-tools
 ax25-apps
 gxsnmp
 dh-make (debian only package)

There is a few gnome programs I work on too but I don't think they are
in the distribution.

I don't know who looks after the devel page but they could add that to
