Bug#327561: O: xmms -- Versatile X audio player that looks like Winamp

2005-09-10 Thread Christopher Martin
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I'm orphaning XMMS, since I don't use XMMS sufficiently often to be a really
attentive maintainer, and Josip Rodin is completely inactive.

XMMS isn't too active upstream these days, yet with its large collection of
plugins, the package is still _very_ useful, and very comfortable for many
people. So this package really should remain in the archive. Fortunately,
it should be easy to maintain.

Cheers,
Christopher Martin

Here's some package information:

Description: Versatile X audio player that looks like Winamp
X MultiMedia System is a player for various audio formats,
with a customizable interface based on X/GTK+.
 .
It's able to read and play:
  * Audio MPEG layer 1, 2, and 3 (with mpg123 plug-in),
  * Ogg Vorbis files (with the Ogg Vorbis plug-in),
  * CD Audio (with CDAudio plug-in), with CDDB support,
  * WAV, RAW, AU (with internal wav plug-in and MikMod plug-in),
  * MOD, XM, S3M, and other module formats (with MikMod plug-in),
  * .cin files, id Software.
It has eSound, OSS, and disk writer support for outputting sound.
 .
It looks almost the same as famous Winamp, and includes those neat
features like general purpose, visualization and effect plug-ins,
several of which come bundled, then spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope,
skins support, and of course, a playlist window.

Fantastic! Good luck with XMMS. If you have any questions about my packaging
(my patch system, with the autoreconf diff as the last patch, is perhaps
not totally obvious), don't hesitate to ask.

TileCache is an implementation of a WMS-C compliant server made
available by MetaCarta. TileCache provides a Python-based WMS/TMS
server, with pluggable caching mechanisms and rendering backends. In the
simplest use case, TileCache requires only write access to a disk, the
ability to run Python CGI scripts, and a WMS you want to be cached. With
these resources, you can create your own local disk-based cache of any
WMS server, and use the result in any WMS-C supporting client, like
OpenLayers, or any TMS supporting client, like OpenLayers and worldKit.

Thanks for your reply. The reason there's nothing happening at the
moment is that I'm limited on time and don't have access to my Debian
Notebook right now.

Your points 1 and 2 were already mentioned by another possible sponsor
(on debian-mentors mailing list) and put on my todo list.

Point 3 was also mentioned and I'm not sure how to tackle it. I've tried
to compile the software with latest libbluetooth-dev 3.x in unstable and
it worked. The binaries ran fine at a quick test. But can I be sure
there will be no errors showing up at runtime?

I will address your other points as well. I have to admit, I havn't
played with pbuilder, yet - only used lintian for checking

The latest KDE also includes its own inotify support, so gamin doesn't
add anything to KDE either. Thus there would be no reason for us to

Bug#293688: FW: Started packaging TMU for Debian

2005-02-08 Thread Christopher Fynn
Dear T-om
David forwarded your message to me.
We are happy to hear that you wish to package the THDL "Tibetan Machine Uni"
font for Debian Linux.
A couple of things:
1) perhaps you could use a slightly less generic name for the package
since there will be other GPL'd OpenType Tibetan fonts - maybe call it
"ttf-tibetan-machine-uni" or "ttf-tibetan-thdl-uni" - unless you plan to
include all tibetan fonts in one package.
Another related issue is that there are a number of older Tibetan ttf fonts
floating around which do not have glyphs mapped to the proper Unicode
Tibetan characters or have OpenType tables necessary for forming tibetan
conjuncts. (There is even an earlier non-Unicode version of the Tibetan
Machine font available.) We want to make sure that older (non Unicode)
Tibetan fonts which rely on non-standard glyph based Tibetan character
encodings are not confused with this font as this could cause all kinds of
confusion & problems for users.
2) the current version of THDL's Tibetan Machine Unicode font is an alpha
version with known limitations. None of these is disastrous but the font
currently won't render as nicely as it should and quite a few of the rarer
Tibetan-Sanskrit ligatures are not yet supported.
We plan to release a more up-to-date (beta) version of the font with these
things fixed in about a month. Including a package for the current version
in the 'unstable' branch is OK - but please make sure it is clearly marked as
an alpha version - and, if you do this, we would hope any package gets
updated to the new version as soon as that is available.
People installing this font will probably need to install a keyboard to
input Tibetan script. The dz or bo keyboard in XFree 86 should work.
Only the latest version of Pango (1.8.0) has support for Tibetan script
so anyone wishing to use this font in applications which rely on Pango or
GTK+ will need to update Pango as well.
Under Linux Tibetan script rendering is not yet supported in Mozilla,
OpenOffice or ICU. There is limited support for Tibetan in in KDE/Qt.
best regards
- Chris Fynn

Subject: Started packaging TMU for Debian
dear THDL project,
i would like to inform you that packaging the Tibetan Machine Uni font for
the Debian GNU/Linux distribution has been started. the package name will
probably be ttf-tibetan and it will be first included in the 'unstable'
distribution. the intention to create the package is documented at [0].
[0] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=293688
please let me know if this intention somehow contradicts your own plans.
and thanks for the font. i'm using it with the yudit editor while learning
tibetan at the university of helsinki.
best regards,

Bug#293688: FW: Started packaging TMU for Debian

2005-02-10 Thread Christopher Fynn
t-om wrote:
Dear Chris,

Thank you for your valuable comments.

On Tue, 2005-02-08 at 12:28 +, Christopher Fynn wrote:

1) perhaps you could use a slightly less generic name for the package
since there will be other GPL'd OpenType Tibetan fonts - maybe call it
"ttf-tibetan-machine-uni" or "ttf-tibetan-thdl-uni" - unless you plan to
include all tibetan fonts in one package.

Agreed, in fact it currently is "ttf-tmuni", following an abbreviation
found in the THDL deliveries. The intention is to include only the
Unicode version of Tibetan Machine font in this package as a way to
encourage the usage of Unicode fonts and to keep the package size small.
Please let me know if one of your package name suggestions would still
be more appropriate. The package is not yet included even in the
unofficial distribution so we still have complete freedom to change the
name.
"ttf-tmuni" is fine.

I am not aware of other official Debian packages with tibetan fonts
included, yudit excluded. As ttf-tmuni will be an independent package I
think it will be on users's responsibility to solve compatibility
problems caused by his/her custom font installations. I will include
your warning in the documentation of the package.
Other Tibetan fonts would only be 8-bit for non UTF-8 environments. However
there is no standardized encoding for Tibetan or Dzongkha other than
Unicode. Other "legacy" Tibetan fonts all use glyph based encodings which
are different from font to font.

There is a Tibetan font available with m17n-lib - the font itself is
non-Unicode but m17n-lib can use an external table to map between Unicode
Tibetan and the glyphs in that font to display

I will add to package's documentation a clear mention of it being an
alpha version. In addition the font is installed from the package with
its original file name which explicitly indicates it being an alpha
version too. I'll make sure that this alpha file gets erased from user's
filesystem upon upgrade to the next version of the package containing
the font's beta version with a supposedly different file name.
Great - no one has had any real problems with the alpha version
other than some ligature combinations not being supported in that version
and rather jagged rendering on screen due to an error in the fonts gasp
table settings. These things will be fixed in the next version.

I will add this information to the package documentation as a hint to
the user.

best regards
- Chris Fynn

Thanks,
...
regards
- Chris
P.S. I'm also converting another Tibetan font to OpenType and at the same
time adding many more glyphs. I will also try to create proper bold and
italic versions of that font at the same time. This font should be available
from:
<https://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/free-tibetan/> in two or three months.
I'm encoding this font to work with both Unicode and the new Tibetan
extensions to the Chinese GB18030 character encoding standard.

Description : simple totally OO CGI interface that is CGI.pm compliant

CGI::Simple provides a relatively lightweight drop in replacement for
CGI.pm. It shares an identical OO interface to CGI.pm for parameter
parsing, file upload, cookie handling and header generation. This module
is entirely object oriented, however a complete functional interface is
available by using the CGI::Simple::Standard module.

Essentially everything in CGI.pm that relates to the CGI (not HTML) side
of things is available. There are even a few new methods and additions
to old ones! If you are interested in what has gone on under the hood
see the Compatibility with CGI.pm section at the end.

In practical testing this module loads and runs about twice as fast as
CGI.pm depending on the precise task

Description : Testing framework for multimedia decoder conformance

Fluster is a testing framework written in Python for decoders conformance. It
is composed of a CLI application that runs a number of test suites with the
supported decoders. Its purpose is to check different decoder implementations
against known test suites with known and tested results. It has been originally
designed to check the conformance of H.265/HEVC decoders, but it also supports
H.264/AVC and can be easily extended to add more decoders and test suites.

It is useful for codec development to ensure that the decoder driver and
userspace components are implemented correctly.

Bug#333816: O: okle -- DVD player for KDE

2005-10-13 Thread Christopher Martin
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I am orphaning the okle package. oKle's upstream has been dead for some
time, as is the upstream of the DVD playback engine on which oKle is based,
Ogle. Moreover, more featureful and maintained alternatives exist for KDE,
including Kaffeine.

---

Description: DVD player for KDE

oKle is a DVD player for the K Desktop Environment. As a front-end for the
Ogle DVD player, it provides all the features of Ogle and ogle-gui, though
adding several extra handy options, while retaining a compact and intuitive
GUI. Full-screen mode is supported for dedicated viewing.

Most i386 users will want to ensure that ogle-mmx is installed instead of
the generic ogle package, while most powerpc users will want ogle-altivec
instead.

Description : Pre-built Rockchip bootloader firmware binaries (for
embedded targets)

This package contains the Rockchip bootloader firmware binaries, primarily
used for targets where no open-source versions is yet released.
The pre-built firmware consists of builds of Arm Trusted Firmware, OP-TEE
and U-Boot. There are also some closed-source tools in this repo, build for
amd64. These will be stripped from the upstream source package as I do
not (yet) see a need for these.

This package is required to build U-Boot for some embedded targets such as
rk3588, rk3566, rk3568. All of these will eventually have open-source
firmware, but it is still useful for new processors in the future where
U-Boot support will be merged long before the initial DRAM bringup and
trusted firmware.

I expect this package will go into non-free-firmware.

If anyone rejects having this kind of package in Debian, please do reply
to this message. I don't have any immediate plans to package this.

v-i installs a very basic Debian onto a PC. It's entirely
non-interactive and unhelpful. The author wrote it so that repeated
installations would be less of a chore than using the official Debian
installer.

v-i uses vmdb2 to install onto bare metal hardware.
vmdb2 is a program to create a disk image virtual machines
with Debian, by the same author. It "installs Debian" to a file
representing a hard drive. It's basically debootstrap, except the
target is a disk image instead of a directory. It's used to create
Debian images for Raspberry Pis.

I'd like to package this as part of the installer-team, but I haven't
yet asked their permission or had any grace from them.

Bug#1053214: RFP: lustre -- distributed parallel, scalabe, high-performance, high-availability file system

2023-11-09 Thread Christopher Huhn

Hi Ole,

more than a decade ago we (GSI IT) funded an effort by a commercial
supporter (Credativ) to get Lustre in shape for inclusion in Debian.
This effort unfortunately went nowhere, but its remains can still be
found on snapshot.debian.org [1].

AFAICT the current upstream packaging has been derived from this project.

The main culprit was that the Lustre development focuses on rather old
enterprise (ie. RHEL) kernels and the newest Lustre did not work with
the latest kernels in Debian upstream which regularly broke the package
in Debian unstable until it was finally removed.

My impression is that this situation has not improved much and you will
end up in a similar situation again.

The development models of Debian and Lustre seem to be too incompatible.

Best

Christopher

Bug#1032659: ITP: golang-github-go-task-slim-sprig -- Useful template functions for Go templates.

2023-12-07 Thread Christopher Obbard
Hi Mark,

I will be willing to sponsor this package (mainly as I am looking to using it
in Debos). Your packaging looks generally good, but I have noticed a few minor
issues with the Git repo / packaging, let me know if you can fix these or if
you'd like me to do so.

- d/copyright: "Copyright: 2019 Task" seems.. wrong? Also, for the record
there is no explicit licence file in the upstream repository, but the GitHub
page says MIT.

- The package's commit history seems to modify the original source, e.g.
908e6bca ("Ignore _build and quilt .pc dirs via .gitignore") which is then
reverted by af533953 ("Import Debian changes 2.20.0-1"). It would be far
cleaner to drop these commits.

- 6ef11ba6 ("fixup: unstable build submission") seems to be wrong. As you're
not uploading into unstable, you should leave it as UNRELEASED.

- v3.0.0 has been released upstream. What would the plan be for importing
that?

- The TestShuffle function seems to fail (heh, is this test even deterministic
?):

> $ gbp buildpackage --git-pbuilder
> === RUN   TestShuffle
> functions_test.go:82:
> Error Trace:/build/golang-github-go-task-slim-sprig-

Hi,

I have done the packaging (from Mark's existing packaging, thank you!) for the
new version 3.0.0. I hope to upload to the NEW queue tomorrow; but first I
need to get the Git repo in good shape.

@Mark, I made slight changes to the packaging but you are still marked as an
Uploader alongside me, I have left your copyright in d/copyright, and your
packaging commit authorship is in d/changelog. I hope that is acceptable by
you :-)?

@Go Team, Can I have maintainer access to
https://salsa.debian.org/go-team/packages/golang-github-go-task-slim-sprig ?
Currently I am just developer on that repo, it'd be great to get full access
so I can modify CI setting etc.

Thanks!

Thank you for looking, your nitpicks are appreciated, since it helps me

- salsa-ci.yml is not needed anymore as we can directly use the config
file from the salsa team:

https://salsa.debian.org/salsa-ci-team/pipeline/blob/master/README.md#basic-use

Right, I initially used dh_make which generated that salsa-ci.yml file.
I've now removed it from the repo.

Do you think it is worth opening a bug/merge request there to either
remove the generated file or add a comment about it not being needed any
more?

- If you plan to maintain this package under the umbrella of the
Debian Multimedia Team, you need to move the git repo under the team
namespace and update the d/control fields accordingly. Just created a
repo for you:

salsa.debian.org:multimedia-team/qpwgraph.git

I've pushed the source there, thanks!

- Is there a specific reason to target the upstream dev website

to update it contrary to its gitlab repo.

I did think about that, but most other packages I have seen target the
upstream's website in the watch file.

For the record, the upstream tarball on the author's website doesn't
include the gitlab-ci file or some other bits, so they're not the same
archive as what you would download from gitlab.

- The history of your master and upstream branches is uncommon, I
think you cloned the upstream repo and then imported the upstream
tarball with gbp? It would be cleaner to just create these branches
using gbp import-orig.

Right, I wanted to experiment with keeping the upstream git history
(like the pipewire packaging) rather than just importing all of the
files in a single commit like how import-orig would in the usual case. I
did that by:

$ git init
$ git remote add upstream g...@gitlab.freedesktop.org:rncbc/qpwgraph.git
$ git checkout -b upstream v0.2.2
$ gbp import-orig --upstream-vcs-tag v0.2.2 --pristine-tar
../qpwgraph-0.2.2.tar.gz

I have recreated those branches using import-orig without the git
history, so hopefully it is a bit clearer now.

Thanks!
Chris

Bug#966178: ITP: rkdeveloptool -- tools for working with Rockchip ARM processors through the rockusb protocol

2022-04-01 Thread Christopher Obbard

Hi Dylan,

I have packaged rkdeveloptool (originally a really long time ago -
finally found some time to refresh things today!) and the source is
available here: https://salsa.debian.org/obbardc/rkdeveloptool

Can I request a review and potentially an upload if all is good ?

I guess this time it would be best to move it to the debian salsa
namespace first - I do not have access there (yet?).

Thanks and all the best,
Chris

Bug#1055748: taking over maintainance of swugenerator & python-libconf

2024-04-29 Thread Christopher Obbard
Hi Bastian,

I'm interested in taking over the long-term maintenance of swugenerator (&
dependant package python-libconf).

I will kick this off by importing version 0.4 of swugenerator & backporting to
bookworm-backports (I have a need to use the latest version in debian stable).

Can you please give me access (obbardc on salsa) to the package repository on
salsa ?

Thank you !

Chris

Thanks for the offer! Since there's already a new version upstream again
I will update the package to that one and try to do the packaging as
cleanly as possible. I expect to be finished during the next week, then
I'll commit the changes.

Bug#658261: ITP: NESICIDE - An Integrated Development Environment for the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System

2012-02-01 Thread Christopher Pow
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

NESICIDE is an IDE useful for developing games in C or 6502 assembly
language for the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System.

It contains:

. a fully-integrated NES emulator,
. complete exposure of the emulated NES components in several graphical and
informational debuggers,
. source code editor,
. graphics editor,
. interface to the popular CC65 6502 compiler toolchain [available
separately],
. source stepping in C, assembly, or mixed-mode,
. breakpoints

With NESICIDE it is possible to build a NES game from scratch, or to peek
into the inner workings of games previously developed.

NESICIDE is available in three binary Debian packages that I built myself.
The first two are programs, the last is a shared library containing the
emulation core:

https://sites.google.com/site/nesicideproject/documents/nesicide_1.014-1_i386.deb
https://sites.google.com/site/nesicideproject/documents/nesicide-emulator_1.004-1_i386.deb
https://sites.google.com/site/nesicideproject/documents/libnesicide-emulator_1.004-1_i386.deb

It is a Qt app, GPLv3 license. All sourcecode is available on
www.gitorious.org/nesicide.

Thanks!

Bug#644519: Manpages

Hi again,

I've begun work on a manpage for the drush-make command, but it occurs to me
that Drush Make also has a specific file-format. So, I believe I'll also
need to create a drush-make(5) manpage to document it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Bug#574371: Issue with Go compiler

2010-11-22 Thread Christopher Browne
I tried a build on an AMD64 box, and it got slightly confused...

Notably, the 4 scripts in /usr/bin that run the compiler components
got misnamed. On an AMD64 system, they should be 6a, 6c, 6g, 6l. It
instead

 for i in a c g l; do
   mv 8${i} 6${i}
vi 6${i} # edit to point to right binary
done

Also, I notice that there are some supplemental makefiles that tend to
be heavily needed...

I pulled these from the Mercurial sources

http://code.google.com/p/go/source/browse/src/

And stowed...
cbbrowne# vi /usr/lib/google-go/src/Make.pkg
cbbrowne# vi /usr/lib/google-go/src/Make.inc
cbbrowne# vi /usr/lib/google-go/src/Make.common

That's not a notably clean way to do it, but oh, well...

I'll also note that it looks like the language spec has changed a bit
since July. I'm finding code breaking (when trying to build things)
based on recent language additions. I suppose I should try out a
fresher version of the Go sources.

Bug#658863: 'official' debian baseboxes

2012-12-18 Thread Christopher Gervais
There has been some interest in my proposal
(http://lists.debian.org/debian-cloud/2012/12/msg00079.html) to build
'official' Debian baseboxes. Since Veewee is the obvious tool of choice
for this task, I'd like to see it packaged for Debian.

I have some limited experience packaging .debs, but none with Ruby gems.
Still, I'll try to package this project, unless anyone indicates there
is already work in progress to that end.

What about merging your changes in, and

if you're still interested. Please let me know :)

Thanks for the offer! Since there's already a new version upstream again
I will update the package to that one and try to do the packaging as
cleanly as possible. I expect to be finished during the next week, then
I'll commit the changes.

Nothing has changed so far, so I upgraded the package to 1.1 in the

maintain it with the DPMT.

Description : mocked DBI interface for testing purposes

Test::MockDBI has a major advantage over DBI::trace()
or DBD::Mock -- Test::MockDBI lets you change how the
mocked DBI functions behave, along with modifying
what data is returned by the mocked DBI functions.
These changes and modifications can be made specific
to particular SQL statement patterns.

This ability to modify DBI function behavior and
DBI-returned data makes it easier to test code that has
different branches for different DBI behaviors -- you
can test that a failure within DBI or returned DB data
that is different than normal is processed correctly by
your module or program. If you are taking over a large
code base, Test::MockDBI will help in understanding the
code by allowing you to safely check how the code behaves
under different database conditions without modifying any
databases (production or otherwise).

Bug#779481: ITP: libthread-tie-perl -- alternative separate thread implementation of shared variables

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher Hoskin
Package: wnpp
Owner: Christopher Hoskin
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org,debian-p...@lists.debian.org

* Package name: libthread-tie-perl
  Version : 0.13
  Upstream Author : Elizabeth Mattijsen
* URL : https://metacpan.org/release/Thread-Tie
* License : Artistic or GPL-1+
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : alternative separate thread implementation of shared
variables

The standard shared variable scheme used by Perl, is based on tie-ing the
variable to some very special dark magic. This dark magic ensures that shared
variables, which are copied just as any other variable when a thread is
started, update values in all of the threads where they exist as soon as the
value of a shared variable is changed.

The Thread::Tie module is a proof-of-concept implementation of another approach
to shared variables. Instead of having shared variables exist in all the
threads from which they are accessible, shared variable exist as "normal",
unshared variables in a seperate thread. Only a tied object exists in each
thread from which the shared variable is accesible.

Through the use of a client-server model, any thread can fetch and/or update
variables living in that thread. This client-server functionality is hidden
under the hood of tie(). So you could say that one dark magic (the current
shared variables implementation) is replaced by another dark magic.

The Thread::Tie approach has the following advantages:

* Memory usage - This implementation circumvents the memory leak that currently
(threads::shared version 0.90) plagues any shared array or shared hash
  access.
* Tieing shared variables - Because the current implementation uses tie-ing,
you can not tie a shared variable. The same applies for this implementation
you might say. However, it is possible to specify a non-standard tie
implementation for use within the thread. So with this implementation you can
tie() a shared variable. So you could tie a shared hash to a DBM file à la
  dbmopen() with this module.

Of course there are disadvantages to this approach:

* Pure Perl implementation - This module is currently a pure Perl
implementation. This is ok for a proof of concept, but may need re-
implementation in pure XS or in Inline::C for production use.

* Tradeoff between cpu and memory - This implementation currently uses (much)
more cpu than the standard shared variables implementation. Whether this
would still be true when re-implemented in XS or Inline::C, remains to be
seen.

Description : glue layer between Perl handlers and the mod_ssl public API

Apache::SSLLookup is a glue layer between Perl handlers and the mod_ssl
public API. Under normal circumstances, you would use $r->subprocess_env() to
glean information about mod_ssl. for example,

$request_is_over_ssl = $r->subprocess_env('HTTPS');

however, this is only possible after mod_ssl runs its fixups - that is, Perl
handlers can only accurately check the subprocess_env table for mod_ssl
information in the PerlResponsePhase or later.

This module allows you to query mod_ssl directly via its public C API at any
point in the request cycle. but without using C, of course.

Description : monitors a conveyor belt for specific content

The Thread::Conveyor::Monitored module implements a single worker thread that
takes of boxes of values from a belt created with Thread::Conveyor and which
checks the boxes for specific content.

It can be used for simply logging actions that are placed on the belt. Or
only output warnings if a certain value is encountered in a box. Or create a
safe sandbox for Perl modules that are not thread-safe yet.

Bug#805816: ITP: sklearn-pandas -- Pandas integration with sklearn

2015-11-22 Thread Christopher Baines
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Christopher Baines

* Package name: sklearn-pandas
  Version : 0.0.12
Upstream Author : Israel Saeta Pérez
* URL : https://github.com/paulgb/sklearn-pandas
* License : Zlib
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : Pandas integration with sklearn

sklearn-pandas provides a bridge between scikit-learn's machine learning
methods and pandas data frames.

In particular, it provides:
 - a way to map DataFrame columns to transformations, which are later
   recombined into features
 - a way to cross-validate a pipeline that takes a pandas DataFrame as input.

My plan is to maintain this within the Debian Python Modules Team.
