Hi Piper, putting you in CC since you expressed interest (I think).
Right now no dependencies are missing; so this can be packaged as-is.
imo this package should be maintained with the GNOME team (since this is
a GNOME circle app). I can sponsor the initial upload. For the packaging
https://wiki.debian.org/Gnome/Rust_Packaging is a good start.

best,

werdahias

PS: If you want to package this please retitle this bug as ITP and own
it. Let me know if you need help with this.

Bug#1083168: ITP: con-duct -- lightweight wrapper to collect execution data for a command

2024-10-02 Thread Yaroslav Halchenko

* Package name: con-duct
  Version : 0.4.0
  Upstream Contact: Austin Macdonald
* URL : https://github.com/con/duct
* License : MIT/X
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : lightweight wrapper to collect execution data for a command

con-duct provides a duct command which is a lightweight wrapper that
collects execution data for an arbitrary command. Execution data
includes execution time, system information, and resource usage
statistics of the command and all its child processes. It is intended
to simplify the problem of recording the resources necessary to
execute a command, particularly in an HPC environment.
.
Resource usage is determined by polling (at a sample-interval).
During execution, duct produces a JSON lines file
with one data point recorded for each report (at a report-interval).

Disclaimer: I am leading CON which develops this helper.

  Description : templating engine for evaluating shell commands embedded in
arbitrary templates

 esh (embedded shell) is a templating engine for evaluating shell commands
 embedded in arbitrary templates. It’s like ERB (Embedded RuBy) for shell,
 intended to be used for templating configuration files. Unlike ERB it provides
 support for including one ESH template into another (since version 0.2.0).
 .
 The template processing consists of two phases: conversion to a shell script
 and evaluation of that script. You can even run just the conversion phase: esh
 -d will dump a shell script that you can execute directly by a shell (even on a
 system without esh installed). However, in that case, you will not get error
 messages source-mapped to point to the locations in the template file.

 The package is used in yadm for tempating configuration files.

  Description : very simple search path file finder

 The SearchPath type allows for the finding of files
 using a series of search directories.
 This is akin to the mechanism a shell uses
 to find executables using the PATH environment variable.
 It can be constructed with a search path from an environment variable,
 from a string, or from a list of either string or Path/PathBuf values.
 Typically the find methods return the first matching file or directory,
 but the find_all method specifically collects and returns a list
 of all matching paths.

This package is needed for sdml (bug#1064145).
It will be maintained in the collaborative debian section of salsa, at
