Bug#1078500: ITP: python-proton-vpn-killswitch -- Proton Technologies VPN Kill Switch for Linux
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Josenilson Ferreira da Silva X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-de...@lists.debian.org, nilsonfsi...@hotmail.com * Package name: python-proton-vpn-killswitch Version : 0.4.0 Upstream Contact: Name Proton AG * URL : https://github.com/ProtonVPN/python-proton-vpn-killswitch * License : GPLv3+ Programming Lang: Python Description : Proton Technologies VPN Kill Switch for Linux he proton-vpn-killswitch module is an essential component that defines the "kill switch" interface for the ProtonVPN VPN. The main function of a "kill switch" in a VPN is to ensure that in the event of an unexpected disconnection from the VPN, all network traffic is immediately stopped. This prevents sensitive data from being transmitted without the protection of the VPN, thus ensuring user privacy and security. . Although the proton-vpn-killswitch module defines the interface, it does not implement specific functionality by itself. Instead, it allows other implementations, such as proton-vpn-killswitch-network-manager, to realize the defined functionality. This promotes a modular and extensible architecture, where different components can be developed and updated independently. . Its purpose is: - Provide Network Security: Ensures that, in the event of any failure in the VPN connection, network traffic is interrupted to prevent sensitive information from being exposed to the public network or unsecured networks. - Modularity and Extensibility: Facilitate the addition and integration of different kill switch methods, such as those specific to different network managers (e.g. Network Manager), operating systems or network environments. This allows ProtonVPN to support a variety of user configurations and needs. - Consistency in Implementation: Ensure that all kill switch implementations in ProtonVPN follow a consistent standard, providing a uniform and reliable user experience regardless of the platform or environment in which ProtonVPN is being used. Bug#1078475: ITP: python-tzdata -- provider of IANA time zone data
From the pytz pypi: "Projects using Python 3.9 or later should be using the support now included as part of the standard library, and third party packages work with it such as tzdata. pytz offers no advantages beyond backwards compatibility with code written for earlier versions of Python." tzdata is maintained by the python team itself and as far as I can tell, zoneinfo from the standard library is also making use of this. Bug#1073117: Made minor, but insufficient updates to pagure
Hi, I thought pagure looked need, so I attempted to get it to run on Debian stable. I ran into #1055204 and another change in jinja2's api. I backported upstreams fixes, and tried them but then I got stuck on a problem looking for the session object. File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/flask/app.py", line 2373, in do_teardown_request self.ensure_sync(func)(exc) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/pagure/flask_app.py", line 536, in end_request flask.g.session.remove() File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/flask/ctx.py", line 52, in __getattr__ raise AttributeError(name) from None AttributeError: session I don't know if that's a bug or I misconfigured something Upstream also didn't put their most recent 5.14 release into their releases directory so I updated the watch file to point to the application generated releases page. Since all of these were pretty minor updates, I went ahead and pushed them to salsa. Good luck to the next person. Diane

Since this is meant to be a fallback, and you can make the Debian package of pendulum depend on tzdata, is python-tzdata really needed? Bug#1078475: ITP: python-tzdata -- provider of IANA time zone data
Hi, I did consider the same and discussed within the python team, but tzdata does not have US/* timezones anymore (which apparently now is in the tzdata-legacy package) which pendulum uses. Having to depend on several packages and adding several workarounds does not seem really nice when there is a perfectly well upstream package that is made just for such usages, not to mention maintained by the python team itself. And as mentioned, zoneinfo from standard library itself seems to be making use of the python tzdata package (just what I found after going through the source code), so I believe there is value in having this in debian.
