* Package name: python3-crochet
  Version : 1.12.0
  Upstream Author : Itamar Turner-Trauring
* URL : https://pypi.org/project/crochet/
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Library that makes it easier to use Twisted from regular
blocking code

  Crochet is a library that makes it easier to use Twisted from regular blocking
  code. Some use cases include:

   * Easily use Twisted from a blocking framework like Django or Flask.

   * Write a library that provides a blocking API, but uses Twisted for
   its implementation.

   * Port blocking code to Twisted more easily, by keeping a backwards
   compatibility layer.

   * Allow normal Twisted programs that use threads to interact with
   Twisted more cleanly from their threaded parts. For example, this
   can be useful when using Twisted as a WSGI container.

  Description : safely rsync a package repository to another location

 The *repopush* tool is yet another program that helps with copying
 the various package files and repository metadata from one OS package
 repository to another, taking care to copy and remove files in such
 a way as to never have the remote repository present an inconsistent view.
 This is done by first copying the new package files, then copying the new
 metadata files, then removing the outdated metadata files, and only then
 removing the outdated package files.
 .
 The *repopush* tool supports APT and YUM repositories and figures out
 which one to handle by analyzing the contents of the local repository.

* Package name: libuemf
  Version : 0.2.8+ds
  Upstream Author : , David Mathog and California
Institute of Technology (Caltech)
* URL : https://sourceforge.net/projects/libuemf/
* License : GPL-2
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : Read/write EMF, EMF+, WMF files (development files)
 libUEMF is a portable C99 implementation for reading/writing Enhanced
Metafile
 (EMF), Enhanced Metafile Format Plus (PMF), and Windows Metafile (WMF)
files.
 libUEMF avoids collisions with Microsoft defined functions and values, so
 portable programs which use it and have a Windows version, do not
require any
 conditional logic to separate the native GDI support from the WMF/EMF/PMF
 support proviced by libUEMF. To accomplish this libUEMF does not
implement GDI
 calls. Instead, for each WMR/EMR/PMR record type, and each object type
 incorporated into such a record, it provides corresponding *_set,
*_print, and
 *_swap functions. For PMF and WMF there are also *_get functions, see
below.
 For example, for the U_EMRBITBLT record there are corresponding functions:
 U_EMRBITBLT_set, U_EMRBITBLT_print, and U_EMRBITBLT_swap. A few additional
 functions are provided for assembling the EMF in memory, debugging, and
 converting the EMF file to/from Little Endian representation. (EMF files'
 internal data representation is always Little Endian.)

libuemf is a dependency for libemf2svg which I intend to eventually package.

I will maintain this package myself at [1] until I find an appropriate
team to transfer it to.

Andrius

  Description : C-Implementation of CoAP, API version 3

Lightweight application-protocol for devices that are constrained their
resources such as computing power, RF range, memory, bandwidth, or
network packet sizes. This protocol, CoAP, is developed in the IETF
working group "CoRE", and was standardized in RFC
7252.

The libcoap library has been evolved and has now reached the API version
3 which includes changes that makes the library not backward compatible.
To keep the packages from libcoap3 co-installable to the current
upstream version of libcoap will go into a new source package.

The packaging will be done within the IoT packaging group as a team
managed package.

Bug#991815: RFA: sfst -- Stuttgart finite-state transducer tools

2021-08-16 Thread Akshay S Dinesh
I'm interested in adopting. This project is a dependency for
https://morph.smc.org.in/ which is an initiative I care about.

I have familiarity with the debian-js team's packaging workflow (gbp,
pkg-js-tools, autopkgtest, salsa, etc). But I've never uploaded a
package myself (yet).

I have created an account in https://mentors.debian.net/ and Balasankar
C has agreed to sponsor my upload.

I searched for SFST in salsa, but couldn't find it.

Can you tell me how I should proceed now?

Akshay

Hello,

The libcddb package needs a new maintainer. I no longer have time nor
interest to maintain it properly.

I had adopted it many years as a dependency of a package I no longer
maintain. It was very low-maintenance until recently; there are now two
outstanding bug reports which require attention [1].

If you maintain one of Debian packages that depend on libcddb (Cc:d),
you might be interested in adopting it.

Closes: 928176 952689 980305
Changes:
 libcddb (1.3.2-7) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * debian/control:
 - New maintainer. (Closes: #980305)
 - Add Vcs fields.
 - Update debhelper compatibility level to 13.
 - Remove Build-Depends: dh-autoreconf.
 - Update standards version to 4.5.1, no changes needed.
   * debian/patches:
 - Change the default server from freedb.org to gnudb.gnudb.org as the
   former is no longer available. (Closes: #952689)
 - Disable use of SIGALRM for DNS lookup as this is not thread-safe.
   Patch adapted from upstream VLC. (Closes: #928176)
 - Change encoding of THANKS to UTF-8 to fix lintian warning.
   * debian/compat:
 - Removed, using Build-Depends: debhelper-compat instead.
   * debian/not-installed:
 - Ignore .la files for dh_missing.
 - Ignore cddb_query utility not currently packaged.
   * debian/salsa-ci.yml:
 - Enable CI.
   * debian/libcddb2-dev.examples:
 - Removed useless makefiles from /usr/share/doc as they are generated by
   automake and so only work within the libcddb build tree. They also
   contain the full path to the build directory which makes the package
   unreproducible. The example program is trivial to compile anyway.
   * debian/libcddb2-dev.README.Debian:
 - Add a note on how to compile the example program.
   * debian/tests:
 - Add a simple autopkgtest that uses the cddb_query example program to
   query the default CDDB server.
   * debian/copyright:
 - Convert to machine readable format.

2021-08-16 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: eribe...@debian.org
Control: affects -1 src:gimp-texturize

I intend to orphan the gimp-texturize package.

The package description is:
 Gimp-texturize is a plug-in for the GIMP, a famous picture editor and
 manipulator.
 .
 A few images are designed to be copy-pasted one next to another and still
 look natural, but the result is usually periodic and very monotonous. The
 Texturize plugin allows you to have a realistic pseudo-periodicity.
 .
 After install, the plugin will be available at Filters > Map > Texturize.

Hi Brian,

First of all, thank you for volunteering to help with the packaging of
GitHub CLI.

Here is my understanding:

1. We may name the Debian source and binary package as "gh"
(same as how upstream names it in https://github.com/cli/cli/releases),
though the consensus here leans toward naming the package "github-cli".

2. Even though both "gitsome" and the new "github-cli" package contain
/usr/bin/gh, and since they both perform somewhat similar functions,
we can assume that an end user would only want to install one of them,
hence the suggestion that we set "Conflicts: gitsome" in debian/control
of "github-cli". (We _could_ go with the dpkg-divert(1) route, but I don't
think that is worth the effort unless there were demand, i.e. if someone
were to report a bug about it.)

3. > Do we follow a first-come first-serve binary name reservation
> strategy?
A: No, not necessary, especially seeing how gitsome development
seems to have stopped in May 2019 according to
https://github.com/donnemartin/gitsome , whereas GitHub CLI
is actively being developed, with the most recent commit being
merely 10 hours ago.

4. Paul Wise's suggestion of adding "Provides: gh" is a good idea
so that end users looking for github-cli can simply run
"apt install gh" and apt will install "github-cli" for them.
Furthermore, this should help the end users who have installed
upstream's "gh" deb package to seamlessly migrate to Debian's
official "github-cli" package. (probably needs "Replaces: gh" too)

So, in summary, it just means the following in debian/control:

Source: github-cli
...
XS-Go-Import-Path: github.com/github/cli
...
Package: github-cli
...
Conflicts: gitsome, gh
Provides: gh
Replaces: gh

(All ye experts here, please correct me if you spot any errors,
especially I am always confused about Conflicts, Provides, Replaces
and Breaks and may have gotten it wrong.)

Now, you might run into a problem when actually trying to name the
package "github-cli" (or even "gh") because dh-make-golang 0.4.0 does
not allow for overriding the package name. For example:

dh-make-golang -type p -pristine-tar github.com/cli/cli

would name the package "cli"... I am working on packaging the latest
dh-make-golang and will try to add a flag to allow overriding the
package name, to be uploaded as dh-make-golang 0.4.1 or 0.5.0.

Then there are the yet-to-be-packaged dependencies. Just so that you
know, the following packages that github-cli depends on have already
been packaged but currently sitting in the
https://ftp-master.debian.org/new.html NEW queue:

 * golang-github-yuin-goldmark-emoji 1.0.1-1
 * golang-github-muesli-reflow 0.3.0-1
 * golang-github-shurcool-graphql 0.0~git20200928.18c5c31-1
 * golang-github-shurcool-githubv4 0.0~git20210725.83ba7b4-1

I'll report back here if I were to package and upload more of these
dependencies so as to avoid duplication of work.

Cheers,

Anthony

Sorry, I meant #951374 at https://bugs.debian.org/951374
for the previously filed RFP. Please refer to #951374 from now on
especially there are recent activities about actually getting
github-cli packaged over at #951374.

Hello

I could help with this. Is this RFH still topical?

Anthony,

Thank you for being intimate with the details.

It sounds like this functionality is required for what we are trying to achieve.
I am not very familiar with the golang family and its surrounding infrastructure
regarding Debian. Perhaps I am not best-equipped to package the github-cli tool,
but I am always willing to learn.

It sounds like we should pause the github-cli technical packaging work until
dependent features and packages are added to the ecosystem. Would you agree with
that? I'm not seeing any BTS tags specific to RFPs (or bugs in general) for
marking it as "blocked", as we would say in the corporate world. Although I am
not sure that is even necessary.
