Bug#797503: ITP: tzlocal -- tzinfo object for the local timezone
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Edward Betts * Package name: tzlocal Version : 1.2 Upstream Author : Lennart Regebro * URL : https://github.com/regebro/tzlocal * License : CC0 Programming Lang: Python Description : tzinfo object for the local timezone This Python module returns a `tzinfo` object with the local timezone information. It requires `pytz`, and returns `pytz` `tzinfo` objects. This module attempts to fix a glaring hole in `pytz`, that there is no way to get the local timezone information, unless you know the zoneinfo name, and under several Linux distros that's hard or impossible to figure out. With `tzlocal` you only need to call `get_localzone()` and you will get a `tzinfo` object with the local time zone info. I plan to maintain this package as part of the Debian Python Modules Team. -- Edward.

I would summarize it happily (but I have yet to use universal-ctags for more than C code myself). The last exuberant-ctags version dates back to July 09. Universal-ctags has been quite active since March 14. Furthermore, they have heavily improved php and verilog parsers. Also, universal-ctags now treats option files as libraries[3]. Bug#792096: RFP: borgbackup -- deduplicating and compressing backup program)
Hi, I have been investigating the differences of "upstream release tarball" versus "upstream git tag/github tarball" and I noticed that "upstream release" differs a bit: (1) Release tarball ships .c files compiled from python sources with cython (examples: borg/crypto.c, borg/chunker.c) (2) Release tarball includes generated generates .rst.inc files for documentation by calling borg help (see script docs/update_usage.sh) (3) Release tarball includes a static borg/_version.py, while git tag includes one embedding the git revision. I personally think we should regenerate (1) with debian's packaged cython3 during the build instead of using the upstream ones. Rationale for this is mainly security: If any serious bug is discovered in cython3, and we call it during build, all we need is a no-change-rebuild in order to benefit from the fix. [This will mainly get relevant when borgbackup reaches "stable" and upstream has moved on] While (2) and (3) are nowhere near as important as (1), if we recreate those ourselves during the build process, we could simply depend on upstream git tag releases (those are gpg-signed with the same key as the release tarball btw). I am generally assuming that the (git-)versioned files are the only actual human-written sources, and everything else is generated by automation. I would suggest Debian imports only the human-written source code, and we run all automation following it at build-time. I am currently working on a proof-of-concept version of d/rules doing all of that, I will report back here once I've got a working draft. Of course, in the end, this is just my personal opinion and not necessarily required policy, however 4.13 ("Convenience copies of code", although this discusses included *library* code) suggests a similar direction. I could not find anything on "including generated files vs. regenerating them" in general. https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-source.html#s-embeddedfiles - Danny

The package once was a dependency of the cgal package, but due to various reasons the cgal package now contains a patched copy of (parts of) the core++ sources (yes, I know this bad). I don't use core++ myself and lost interest in packaging it. Upstream development seems to be very slow, if there still is some, at all. There is a request to package the newest upstream version 2.0 (see #545997). Actually, there was another upstream version 1.8, but no-one ever approached me to package it. The currently packaged version 1.7 has a couple of patches such that it compiles with recent gcc version and complies with Debian policy. I suggest that interested parties get in contact with me to learn more about the package, its challenges, etc. before adopting the package. I'll probably maintain the package on a low-effort basis until an adaptor shows up, but I might consider orphaning it or requesting its removal for squeeze+1. Bug#788539: [caffe] one step closer to the final caffe package
Hi folks, (CC'ing people who are interested in package "caffe") It is a good news that the package caffe in anonscm/debian-science/caffe.git builds again. Package caffe-cpu and package caffe-cuda shold be built properly on amd64 and i386 hosts. However it's not quite in a good shape, currently I'm looking into these things: * how to avoid FTBFS on ARCHs which are not amd64|i386, because control :: build-deps contains CUDA (nvidia-cuda-toolkit) * letting custom target in d/rules work again * adding a python-caffe-cpu, and a python-caffe-cuda pcakage. * adding manpages for ELFs. * is it ok to build-deps on nvidia-cuda-toolkit/experimental (6.5.14) because cuda 6.0 in unstable is t old to work with gcc4.9 or even gcc4.8 when building caffe-cuda. (it is said that gcc-4.6 was removed recently from unstable ...) * add explicit depend on gcc-4.9, as cuda 6.5 won't work with gcc-5, especially after gcc-5 transition. They are my todos on this package and you can see somewhat a progress... and I haven't check lintian yet. I think I can finish the packaging without help, but would appreciate if any :-) (build it on my laptop is very slow ...) Thank you. -- .''`. The current versions (3.x) are several grave issues: * Do not build twice. * There is a suicidal Makefile that removes essential files. * There are several mistakes from upstream in source code, doing this package not reliable to forensics activities. 2. There are some similar programs packaged in Debian. 3. The upstream development appears dead. The last release was in 2011 and there are bugs opened. 4. The upstream is unresponsive. Bug#797627: ITP: fonts-hack -- Typeface designed for source code
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Paride Legovini * Package name: fonts-hack Version : 2.010 Upstream Author : Christopher Simpkins * URL : https://github.com/chrissimpkins/Hack * License : Modified SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1 Programming Lang: Description : Typeface designed for source code Package description: No frills. No gimmicks. Hack is hand groomed and optically balanced to be a workhorse face for code. It has deep roots in the libre, open source typeface community and expands upon the contributions of the Bitstream Vera & DejaVu projects. The face has been re-designed with a larger glyph set, modifications of the original glyph shapes (including distinct point styles and semi-bold punctuation weight in the regular set to make analphabetic characters less transparent), and meticulous attention to metrics (including numerous spacing adjustments to improve the rhythm of the face and the legibility of code at small text sizes). The large x-height + wide aperture + low contrast design combined with PostScript hinting/hint replacement programs and a TrueType instruction set make it highly legible at commonly used source code text sizes with a sweet spot that runs in the 8px - 12px range on modern desktop and laptop monitors. After several years using Debian I feel it's time to give something back to the community. I'd like to maintain a package for my favourite monospace font. I use it as my terminal font, so I'll be very aware of the package status and quality. Paride
