Description : monitoring plugin for checking XMPP servers

implements a nagios check plugin for XMPP servers implementing the XMPP
protocol as specified in RFC 6120.

The program implements the following features:

 - check client to server (C2S) as well as server to server (S2S) ports
 - check XMPP servers on IPv6 and IPv4 addresses
 - support STARTTLS as specified in RFC 6120 section 5.
 - check the validity of the server certificate presented by the XMPP server

The plugin has been implemented because of insufficiencies in the existing
check_ssl_cert and check_xmpp plugins.

Maximum acceptable timeouts as well as minimum acceptable number of days the
server certificate needs to be valid can be specified as command line
parameters.

I'm upstream developer of the plugin and use it to monitor my own XMPP
servers.

* Package name: 3270font (fonts-3270)
  Version : 1.1

* URL : https://github.com/rbanffy/3270font
* License : BSD3
  Programming Lang: fontforge .sfd
Description : monospaced font based on IBM 3270 terminals

This font is derived from the x3270 font, which, in turn, was translated
from the one in Georgia Tech's 3270tool, which was itself hand-copied
 from a 3270 terminal.
 .
While looking reasonably close to its bitmap ancestors, this is a vector
font that looks good at any size. Its recommended use is, obviously, a
text terminal, same as nearly half a century ago.

There's a bitmap version in the archive already: (xfonts-x3270-misc,
non-free), although PCF fonts are not configured by default for use with any
toolkits from this millenium. Ricardo Bánffy's version is free, works with
modern technology, and has a number of improvements.

The conversion from bitmap used an eight-direction algorithm rather than the
usual squares, fitting the font's design (lots of diagonals). There's also
a number of manual tweaks after that.

This package is a dependency of cool-retro-term, although a terminal font
has no lack of usefullness on its own.

  Programming Lang: PHP
Description : Validating parser of JSON data structures, written in PHP

JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data-interchange
format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines
to parse and generate. It is based on a subset of the JavaScript
Programming Language. JSON is a text format that is completely language
independent but uses conventions that are familiar to programmers of the
C-family of languages. These properties make JSON an ideal
data-interchange language.
.
This package provides a validating parser of JSON files, written in
PHP.

Nproc is a process pool implementation for OCaml. A process pool is a
fixed set of processes that perform arbitrary computations for a
master process, in parallel and without blocking the master. Master
and workers communicate by message-passing. Nproc relies on fork,
 pipes, Marshal and Lwt.

This package will be maintained in the Debian OCaml Team.

Description : WindowMaker dock app for monitoring filesystem usage

Nice graphical 'df', showing you to what degree the mounted
filesystems are used.

Another X11 dockable application designed for WindowMaker.
It works with other window managers as well.

wmfsm was removed from Debian in 2010 [1], but it has a new upstream maintainer
and a new version was just released.

Description : Check or edit configuration data with Config::Model

cme provides a command to check or edit configuration data with
Config::Model.

cme and Config::Model are quite modular: the configuration data that
you can edit depend on installed packages. I.e.:
 - ssh client or ssh daemon config: libconfig-model-openssh-perl
 - approx config: libconfig-model-approx-perl
 - lcdproc config: libconfig-model-lcdproc-perl
 - popcon config: provided with libconfig-model-perl

Some applications can be handled by cme:
 - debian package files: libconfig-model-dpkg-perl
 - multistrap files: provided with libconfig-model-perl

You can also choose a user interface:
 - graphical, based on Tk: libconfig-model-tkui-perl
 - curses based: libconfig-model-cursesui-perl
 - simple shell: provided with libconfig-model-perl

Last but not least, you can also take a stab at maintaining
configuration model with libconfig-model-itself-perl.

Feel free to get back to me if you have ideas to improve the description.

Description : Background download manager in a Window Maker dockapp

wmget is a dock app for the GNU Window Maker window manager
(or one of the many other WM's which support dockapps) which
makes it more convenient to perform long downloads in the background.
It uses the excellent libcurl library, part of the cURL automated-download
program, to perform file retrieval

wmget was previously orphaned and later removed from Debian [1], but I intend
to maintain it.

Description : Django app to track changes to models

This python package will automatically track and record all changes to a
Django model.

I am packaging this because an application I use and maintain (not yet
in Debian) requires it.

I plan on mantaining it as part of the Debian python modules team. I
will be building Python2 and Python3 packages.

Hi,

due to the lack of time I'd ask for someone else to
maintain python-softlayer.

The package is in good shape and upstream is actively
working on it. I'll still be available to sponsor
uploads too.

Thanks for considering,
Regards.

2015-02-14 Thread Richard Winters
Hello,

I 'm in the same boat as the last person to reply about a year ago...cups
is the top listed package for new-commers in the 'how-can-i-help' package.

I've also offered help to nodejs, grub2, icu, and openssl.

The debian-js team replied to me, but I had to email the guys directly :P
They told me security bugs were the most important these days...not
really seeing anything on their list that is appropriate for a newcommer or
that has to do with security updates-> unless I'm missing something on how
to find those bugs.

The guy that took over ICU never replied to me, but to others regarding
other topics -> so it appears he doesn't need help.

grub2, and openssl have not yet replied to me.

If you need any help let me know, I'd like to start contributing to debian.

I use testing atm but Id be more than happy to dist-upgrade to unstable on
my laptop for the purpose of helping out. I have a brother all-in-one and
use the cups wrapper from their site -> since the built-in packages to
debian do not work.

One issue I've found is scanning when the printer is hooked up to a usb3
port -> guessing that's brothers problem though?

But if there's something I can do, please let me know. I'm a c++ developer
of over 10 years...I'm good with autotools, and have some experience
building a debian package (nothing too advanced).

Basically I'm hoping to find an in somewhere appropriate for a newbie to
debian to contribute with my skill sets.

The request seems very old...so please excuse me not just searching for
your bug list and 'going for it'.

Hello,

I'm looking to get my foot in the door as a contributor. Many years as a
developer (c++)..autotools and debian packaging experience (nothing too
advanced with regards to debian packaging yet...just simple multi-binary
package with conf and init).

Not sure if any of that helps (above). This package is listed in
'how-can-i-help' package as a good choice for newcommers. Are you still
looking for help?

Best,

Rik

Bug#778417: ITP: netcdf-python -- python interface to the netCDF4 (network Common Data Form) library

2015-02-14 Thread Ross Gammon
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Ross Gammon

* Package name: netcdf-python
  Version : 1.1.3
Upstream Author : University Corporation for Atmospheric Research/Unidata
* URL : http://unidata.github.io/netcdf4-python/
* License : ISC, Expat
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : python interface to the netCDF4 (network Common Data Form)
library

NetCDF version 4 has many features not found in earlier versions of the library
and is implemented on top of HDF5. This module can read and write files in both
the new netCDF 4 and the old netCDF 3 format, and can create files that are
readable by HDF5 clients. The API is modelled after Scientific.IO.NetCDF, and
should be familiar to users of that module.

Most new features of netCDF 4 are implemented, such as multiple unlimited
dimensions, groups and zlib data compression. All the new numeric data types
(such as 64 bit and unsigned integer types) are implemented. Compound and
variable length (vlen) data types are supported, but the enum and opaque data
types are not. Mixtures of compound and vlen data types (compound types
containing vlens, and vlens containing compound types) are not supported.

The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (Unidata) also provide C++
and Fortran interfaces to the NetCDF C library. This is their python interface.
There is already python-netcdf packaged for Debian as part of the Scientific
Python source. However, netcdf-python implements different parts of the
interface and is supported by the organisation that controls the NetCDF
library.

The package will be maintained within the Debian GIS Team (as well as the
NetCDF C, C++, and Fortran libraries).

How does this differ from the existing python-netcdf package?

Hi,

That's good. You'll need to make your debian sources (dsc +
debian.tar.gz) available for anyone to do a proper review. Uploading it
to mentors.debian.net is a good idea.

Firstly, you can change the priority of your package to optional if you
want. The majority of packages should be this priority.

A 'Suggests: www-browser' might be good if you need one to view the help
files.

I have 4 remaining lintian messages which are hopefully acceptable:

1. I: whycanticonnect: using-first-person-in-description line 1: I
My description contains my application name ("Why Can't I Connect?")
which contains an "I".

You can ignore that one.

2. I: whycanticonnect: arch-dep-package-has-big-usr-share 24926kB 95%
These are mainly the help files. Splitting them would be difficult
across multiple operating systems.

25MB is a lot of data though, which will be duplicated >10 times for
each architecture at the moment. What you can do is split most of the
stuff in /usr/share into another binary package (something like
whycanticonnect-data) which is arch independent. Then add a dependency
so the packages are always installed together.

3. W: whycanticonnect: binary-without-manpage usr/bin/WhyCantIConnect
"Why Can't I Connect?" is GUI with language sensitive, context
sensitive help linked to local html files.

That doesn't mean it shouldn't have one. It can just consist of a very
brief description of what the program is for.

4. I: whycanticonnect: desktop-entry-lacks-keywords-entry
usr/share/applications/WhyCantIConnect.desktop
I don't understand what is required here.

See this:
https://wiki.gnome.org/Initiatives/GnomeGoals/DesktopFileKeywords

After you've looked at those messages, upload the source to
mentors.debian.net and file a sponsorship-requests bug so you can find
someone who can upload the package for you (I can't, I'm not a DD).

James

Thanks for your help but splitting my application is a bit more than I'm
willing to do right now. Maybe some time in the future.

Thanks again
Chris

That is not an easy question to answer (at least with my limited
knowledge). The Unidata website
(http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/software.html#Python) lists
8 different python interfaces to NetCDF. Some are faster, and some offer
writing in reading & writing in other data formats as well as NetCDF.

The netcdf4-python package is the only one described as having
implemented most of the newest features of NetCDF-4. It was actually
modelled on the Scientific.IO.NetCDF module API.

The information about the ScientificPython source package which bundles
python-netcdf (along with many other modules useful for scientific
work), does not contain much easy to digest information about the
implemented interface. I did see in the changelog however, that it is at
least aware of NetCDF-4 data.

Basically, our intention was to package all of the netcdf-* packages
under the Unidata banner on github (https://github.com/Unidata).

Ross

This module borrows a trick from Apache::Registry to load up your tests at
once, create a separate package for each test and wraps each package in a
method named run_the_tests. This allows us to load perl only once and related
modules only once. If you have modules which are expensive to load, this can
dramatically speed up a test suite.
