Bug#725776: RFP: openvisualtraceroute -- Visual Traceroute displaying in a 3D map

2013-10-08 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Since xtraceroute was removed from Debian (after Lenny), I have really
missed a graphical traceroute to see where in the world the IP traffic
move on its way to its destination.

This is a new Java based project that does everything xtraceroute did
and lot more:

* Package name: openvisualtraceroute
  Version : 1.4.0
  Upstream Author : Lew Lewis
* URL : http://sourceforge.net/projects/openvisualtrace/
* License : GPL v3
  Programming Lang: Java
  Description : Visual Traceroute displaying in a 3D map

Traceroutes are shown on the map, with details about country, hop
latency and details about each router being displayed alongside the
map. See the project page for some screen shots.

The source is available from subversion at
http://sourceforge.net/p/openvisualtrace/code/HEAD/tree/ >.

One negative thing about the project is that it expect to run with
root privileges to perform the traceroute. I guess that could be
rewritten to use output from the traceroute program like xtraceroute
did.

According to build.xml, these packages are used by the program:

I am not sure which of these already are in Debian.

Unfortunately I lack the spare time needed to do this myself.

Happy hacking

I started packaging more than a year ago when I packaged sextractor:

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=debian-science/packages/levmar.git

However, I could not get sextractor working with the levmar-2.6, and so
I suspended this.

For starlink-ast, I could however ask upstream about the code. However,
I suspect that they heavily changed it, and it is not trivial to re-use
an existing library.

Best

Ole

 Dynamips emulates Cisco 7200/3600/3725/3745/2600/1700 Routers on a traditional
 PC. You can use dynamips to create labs. It uses IOS Images (which are not
 part of this package). Of course, this emulator cannot replace a real router.
 It is simply a complementary tool to real labs for administrators of Cisco
 networks or people wanting to pass their CCNA/CCNP/CCIE exams. For a Command
 Line Interface for dynamips see dynagen or gns3 package.

 Neutron provides an API to dynamically request and configure virtual networks.
 These networks connect "interfaces" from other OpenStack services (such as
 vNICs from Nova VMs). The Neutron API supports extensions to provide advanced
 network capabilities, including QoS, ACLs, and network monitoring.

This ITP ack the fact that Quantum has been renamed as Neutron because of
a trademark issue. This is currently being taken care of in Debian too.

Bug#725828: ITP: netmate -- netdude clone that shows pcap dump lines in network header style

2013-10-08 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Joao Eriberto Mota Filho

* Package name: netmate
  Version : 0.16
  Upstream Author : Robert Krause
* URL : https://github.com/Rup0rt/netmate
* License : GPL3
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : netdude clone that shows pcap dump lines in network header
style

netmate was inspired in netdude[1] (dead) and can be used to learn and teach
about TCP/IP protocols. It is a GTK+ program that shows lines selected from
files in pcap style (generated by tcpdump and Wireshark or another code based
in libpcap) as 32-bit headers, identical to the used by RFCs.

This program works with ethernet, IPv4, IPv6, TCP, UDP, ICMP and others.

  Description : Software defined radio peripheral support

Github: https://github.com/dl1ksv/gr-fcdproplus.git

The funcube dongle pro+ is the ground station component of the
AMSAT-UK FUNcube Satellite project:
http://amsat-uk.org/funcube/funcube-cubesat/

gr-fcdproplus is an linux addon for gnuradio to implement a
funcube dongle pro+ source.

It autodetects the correct soundcard from /proc/asound/cards.
This idea was taken from the osmosdr drivers.

To control the device the hidraw code of the hidapi is used.

Dependencies:
- - gnuradio
- - alsa usb drivers activated

This capability is useful for GNU Radio via gr-osmosdr.
