Bug#568156: Anything I can do to help?

2012-10-30 Thread M P
Hi,

I'm the upstream maintainer for simavr -- I'd love simavr to be rolled
in debian as an 'official' package; is there anything I can do to
help?

I tagged a "v1.0" last week, so it's now pretty feature complete...

Bug#660826: RFP: Elasticsearch -- Distributed, RESTful, Search Engine built on top of Apache Lucene

2012-10-30 Thread Radu Gheorghe
Hi Nicholas,

2012/10/28 Nicholas Robinson-Wall :

Yeah, that's a problem indeed. I saw it after opening this bug.

>
>> I would volunteer for maintaining the package
>
> As would I. Are you still interested in maintaining, or even comaintaining?

Yes, I'm actually more involved with ES now than I was a while ago. I
almost forgot about it because I didn't see any reaction to this bug.
Until now :)

>

That sounds really nice, thank you. Maybe we can come up with a plan
on how to go further.

> Involving upstream in
> some capacity might also be advisable, given their obvious interest in
> providing Debian support.

Yeah, given how active the ES world is, I'm pretty sure they'd help.

Best regards,
Radu

Bug#691843: RFA: lfhex -- large file hex editor

2012-10-30 Thread Tobias Klauser
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the lfhex package as I no longer use it and
lack the time to properly maintain it.

The package description is:
lfhex is an application for viewing and editing files in hex, octal,
binary, or ascii text. The main strength of lfhex is its ability to
work with files much larger than system memory or address space.

There are three outstanding bugs, two of them with patches available.
Otherwise the package shouldn't need too much work, there haven't been
any new upstream releases for quite a while.

Thanks
Tobias

I am quite busy at the moment due to private engagements, which is why
I only filed an RFP instead of an ITP. It will probably speed up
things if a team builds.

Bug#660826: RFP: Elasticsearch -- Distributed, RESTful, Search Engine built on top of Apache Lucene

2012-10-30 Thread Nick Robinson-Wall
Hi Radu,

On 30 Oct 2012, at 09:10, Radu Gheorghe wrote:

Yeah, that's a problem indeed. I saw it after opening this bug.

I've had a look into it a bit deeper. There are a few problems with
packaging based on the upstream tarball as it stands. The biggest seems to
be that it ships pre-compiled libsigar.

There isn't a pre-existing package for this. I have yet to take a detailed
look at it but at first glance it seemed like it would be a reasonably
simple exercise to create. I have yet to check for packages for all of its
Java dependencies.

Yes, I'm actually more involved with ES now than I was a while ago. I
almost forgot about it because I didn't see any reaction to this bug.
Until now :)

Excellent. Having someone involved upstream will certainly smooth the
process :)

That sounds really nice, thank you. Maybe we can come up with a plan
on how to go further.

Perhaps you would be able to take a look through
http://wiki.debian.org/UpstreamGuide ? Of particular interest is the
section on Java.

I will have a quick stab at a very basic package and identify any obvious
blockers for us. If it looks doable I suggest we convert this to an ITP.

Regards,
Nick

So that means that there should be a different Debian package for
libsigar, right? And the same for all other dependencies, I guess.

Yes, yes, I did misunderstanding for this so I'm wrong.

 BSD-4-clause is
: DFSG-free (still I have a bit question for it)
  : not-compatible with GPL
: BSD people encourage people not to use this now.
  : It's not OSI-approved

If upstream has no strong reason to choose BSD-4-clause, I recommend
you to ask upstream why they choose it.

Please set CONFIG_IR_IGUANA=m for kernel >= 3.6, to enable RC_CORE
support for IguanaIR USB IR receivers. Although this patch should be
trivial to backport to kernel 3.2 without any actual code changes, I'd
suggest to wait for feedback about this module first, given that I can
neither test this particular hardware myself nor were able to solicit
any feedback from the affected persons yet.

While reviewing the RC_CORE configuration, it might make sense to
enable these Kconfig symbols as well:
CONFIG_IR_ITE_CIR=m <-- CIR header on some Asus x86
Mainboards
CONFIG_IR_SANYO_DECODER=m <-- just another IR protocol
CONFIG_IR_FINTEK=m <-- CIR header on some Jetway x86
mainboards
CONFIG_IR_NUVOTON=m <-- CIR header on some ASRock x86
mainboards
CONFIG_IR_WINBOND_CIR=m <-- CIR header on some Intel x86 mainboards
CONFIG_IR_GPIO_CIR=m<-- probably less common

Regards
Stefan Lippers-Hollmann
