Bug#690117: ITP: tlsdate -- secure parasitic rdate replacement

2012-10-10 Thread Kartik Mistry
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Kartik Mistry

* Package name: tlsdate
  Version : x.y.z
  Upstream Author : Jacob Appelbaum ,
Christian Grothoff
* URL : 0.0.1
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : secure parasitic rdate replacement

tlsdate sets the local clock by securely connecting with TLS to remote
servers and extracting the remote time out of the secure handshake. Unlike
ntpdate, tlsdate uses TCP, for instance connecting to a remote HTTPS or TLS
enabled service, and provides some protection against adversaries that try to
feed you malicious time information.

Description: A self-imposed discipline and productivity enforcer
 Lockout is a tool that imposes discipline on you so that you get some work
 done. For example, lockout can be used to install a firewall that does not
 let you browse the Web. Lockout changes the root password for a specified
 duration; this prevents you from secretly ripping down the firewall and then
 browsing the Web anyway. In case of an emergency, you can reboot your
 computer to undo the effects of lockout and to restore the original root
 password.  See also http://thomer.com/lockout/

Bug#690143: RFP: accel-pptp -- kernel accelerated pptp and l2tp implementation

2012-10-10 Thread Helmut Grohne
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: accel-pptp
  Version : 0.8.3
  Upstream Author : Dmitry Kozlov
* URL : http://accel-pptp.sf.net/
* License : GPL-2+
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : kernel accelerated pptp and l2tp implementation

Core features are:
 * PPTP server
 * L2TPv2 server
 * PPPoE server
 * Radius including CoA/DM(PoD)
 * Built-in shaper (tbf)
 * Command line interface (telnet)
 * SNMP agent
 * IPv6 including builtin Neighbor Discovery and DHCPv6

A good reason for including this package or the related accel-pppd
package in Debian is that the available pptp implementations in Debian
are userspace based. Thus every transferred packet causes a context
switch and therefore latency. The kernel implementation (available in
wheezy's 3.2 kernel for instance) solves this issue, but yet lacks a
userspace in Debian. This userspace is accel-pptp or accel-pppd.

Helmut

Bug#556010: RFH: link-grammar

2012-10-10 Thread Sean Myers
I'm interested in helping to maintain the link-grammar source package.

I've done some preliminary work building 4.7.6 based on the very
helpful instructions in README.source (Thanks, Ken!); anyone
interested can view that work here:
https://bitbucket.org/seandst/link-grammar/src/cfd5a2589534/?at=debian/4.7.6-2

I'm hoping to get up to 4.7.7 later this week. I haven't read up on
the process in a little while, so any guidance on what needs to happen
now would be appreciated.

 Upstream Author: 2012, Roberto Alsina
 URL: http://nikola.ralsina.com.ar

 Description: Static Site and Blog Generator
 In goes content, out comes a website, ready to deploy.
 Why Static Websites?
  * Static websites are safer
  * use fewer resources
  * and avoid vendor and platform lockin.
 What Can Nikola Do?
  It has many features, but here are some of the nicer ones:
* Blogs, with tags, feeds, archives, comments, etc.
* Theming
* Fast builds, thanks to doit
* Flexible
* Small codebase (programmers can understand all of Nikola in a
couple of
  hours)
* reStructuredText or Markdown as input languages.
* Easy image galleries (just drop files in a folder!)
* Syntax highlighting for almost any programming language or markup
* Multilingual sites
* Doesn't reinvent wheels, leverages existing tools.

So I got myself a Lenovo W530 which has the same requirement. I am willing to
take maintenance of this package. I currently just am installing the bumblebee
packages from [1]. If everything works, I will use its source as a start for
the packaging work.

Aron, If you have already done any work, please let me know.

As a mirror operator I consider this antisocial.
As a developer, I doubt that this can provide significant speed
improvements other than for pathological cases.
