Therefore, it combines the arguments from every input line with the utility and arguments given on the command line. If no utility is given as an argument to xjobs, then the first argument on every job line will be used as utility. To execute utility xjobs searches the directories given in the PATH environment variable and uses the first file found in these directories. . xjobs is most useful on multi-processor/core machines when one needs to execute several time consuming command several that could possibly be run in parallel. With xjobs this can be achieved easily, and it is possible to limit the load of the machine to a useful value. It works similar to xargs, but starts several processes simultaneously and gives only one line of arguments to each utility call. >From the webpage: Comment on GNU xargs vs. xjobs Yes, GNU's xargs has an option -P that allow parallelizing jobs. But you must tell xargs how many arguments to pass to each job, as it doesn't make a difference between a space and a newline charakter. In consequence each job issued by xargs must have the same number of arguments, whereas xjobs can handle different jobs with different commands and different number of arguments. Additionally, xjobs support I/O redirection, which makes some applications possible that cannot be done with GNU's xargs. xjobs also determines the number of processors automatically, whereas xargs must be told how many processes to start. Finally, non-GNU xargs (e.g. Solaris' and DEC/Compaq/HP Alpha's) don't have the option -P. Try to do the following with GNU's xargs with some files having blanks in their name: * ls -1 *.mp3 | sed 's/\(.*\)\.mp3/"\1.mp3" > "\1.wav"/' | xjobs -- mpg123 -s If you aren't convinced yet, just compare the output of unziping multiple zip files in parallel with xjobs and GNU xargs. xjobs won't intermix the output of unzip like xargs. Instead it will present the output of each unzip separated clearly from the other jobs. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.4 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: xjobs Source-Version: 20110730-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of xjobs, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: xjobs_20110730-1.debian.tar.gz to main/x/xjobs/xjobs_20110730-1.debian.tar.gz xjobs_20110730-1.dsc to main/x/xjobs/xjobs_20110730-1.dsc xjobs_20110730-1_amd64.deb to main/x/xjobs/xjobs_20110730-1_amd64.deb xjobs_20110730.orig.tar.gz to main/x/xjobs/xjobs_20110730.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#647197: ITP: python-snappy -- Python library for the snappy compression library from Google.
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: XuZhiXiang * Package name: python-snappy Version : 0.3.2 Upstream Author : Andres Moreira * URL : http://github.com/andrix/python-snappy * License : BSD Programming Lang: C, Python Description : Python library for the snappy compression library from Google. Snappy is a compression/decompression library. It does not aim for maximum compression, or compatibility with any other compression library; instead, it aims for very high speeds and reasonable compression. For instance, compared to the fastest mode of zlib, Snappy is an order of magnitude faster for most inputs, but the resulting compressed files are anywhere from 20% to 100% bigger. On a single core of a Core i7 processor in 64-bit mode, Snappy compresses at about 250 MB/sec or more and decompresses at about 500 MB/sec or more. . Snappy is widely used inside Google, in everything from BigTable and MapReduce to our internal RPC systems. Rather belated, I have now created a git repository for packaging of Thomas Dickey's autoconf fork, visible at http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/autoconf-dickey.git;a=summary. Craig, would you be willing to sponsor that package since ncurses is one of its potential users? Otherwise I'll ask on the debian-mentors mailing list. Chang" * Package name: clfswm Version : 20110227.git98bbb72 Upstream Author : Philippe Brochard * URL : http://common-lisp.net/project/clfswm/ * License : GPL3 Programming Lang: Common Lisp Description : A(nother) Common Lisp FullScreen Window Manager CLFSWM is a 100% Common Lisp X11 window manager (based on Tinywm and Stumpwm. Many thanks to them). It can be driven only with the keyboard or with the mouse. A display contains a root frame and its children. A child can be a window or another frame. The root frame or its children can be the current root. The current root is fullscreen maximized (no decorations, no buttons, no menus: nothing, just the application fullscreen!). CLFSWM is highly dynamic. By default there is only one frame (the root frame). Other frames are created/deleted on the fly. A window can be in more than one frame, so it can have multiple views of the same windows. Using CLFSWM is like walking through a tree of frames and windows. Enter in a child to make it the current root and make it fullscreen maximized. Leave it to make its parent the current root. --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: clfswm Source-Version: 20110305.git58f154e-1 http://packages.qa.debian.org/c/clfswm/news/20110930T223207Z.html --- End Message ---
Bug#626243: Dependency missing
Hi Chris, I could spend some work on removing that jar as a dependency... by coding a range slider by myself. In case this is a showstopper. kind regards, Achim On 10/30/2011 08:29 PM, Christian Lins wrote: To build jchart2d the JIDE Common Layer [1] are required, which are currently not available as debian package. Otherwise I'll ask on the debian-mentors > mailing list. I'll sponsor it. It sort of makes sense because it is used by ncurses to do that.
