The m2300w driver is an open source Linux driver for the
Konica Minolta magicolor 2300W and 2400W color laser printers.
 .
The driver is basically intended for being used in conjunction with
 "foomatic" (see http://www.openprinting.org/foomatic.html), which
is a database-driven system for integrating free software printer
drivers with common spoolers under Unix, like CUPS, LPRng, LPD,
GNUlpr, PPR, PDQ, CPS, and direct printing.

Note: this will be maintained under the Debian Printing Team Umbrella and is
basically a merge back from Ubuntu; thanks to them !

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alexey

Hello! I'm working on 3 packages: rhash, librhash, librhash-dev
for the RHash program and its LibRHash library.

  Package name: rhash
  Version : 1.2.5
  Upstream Author : Alexey
  URL : http://rhash.sourceforge.net/
  License : MIT http://www.opensource.org/licenses/mit-license.php
  Programming Lang: C

RHash is powerful professional utility, supporting a wide range of
hashing algorithms, such as CRC32, MD4, MD5, SHA1/SHA2, Tiger, TTH,
BitTorrent BTIH, AICH, ED2K, GOST R 34.11-94, RIPEMD-160, HAS-160,
EDON-R 256/512, Whirlpool, Snefru.

Features:
 * Output in a predefined (SFV, BSD) or a user-defined format.
 * Can calculate Magnet links and EDonkey 2000 links.
 * Updating hash files (adding hash sums of files missing in the
hashfile).

 * Ability to process directories recursively.
 * Portability: the program works the same on Linux, *BSD or Windows.

The LibRHash library is lightweight, thread-safe and easy to learn.
It is used by several open source applications.

Description: The network packet altering stream editor
NetSED is small and handful utility designed to alter the contents of
packets forwarded thru your network in real time. It is really useful
for network hackers in following applications:
 .
   * black-box protocol auditing - whenever there are two or more
proprietary boxes communicating over undocumented protocol (by
enforcing changes in ongoing transmissions, you will be able to
test if tested application is secure),
 .
   * fuzz-alike experiments, integrity tests - whenever you want to test
stability of the application and see how it ensures data integrity,
 .
   * other common applications - fooling other people, content filtering,
etc etc - choose whatever you want to.
 .
It perfectly fits ngrep, netcat and tcpdump tools suite.

Description : Perl module to write tests in a declarative specification
style

This is a declarative specification-style testing system for behavior-driven
development (BDD) in Perl. The tests (a.k.a. examples) are named with strings
instead of subroutine names, so your fingers will suffer less fatigue from
underscore-itis, with the side benefit that the test reports are more
legible.

Test::Spec is inspired by and borrows heavily from RSpec, a BDD tool for the
Ruby programming language.

Note that this is a build dependency of the new version of perlbrew.

Bug#630121: RFA: phoronix-test-suite -- a comprehensive testing and benchmarking platform

2011-06-11 Thread Alessio Treglia
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Due to the lack of interest, I request an adopter for the phoronix-test-suite
package.

The package description is:
The Phoronix Test Suite is the most comprehensive testing and
benchmarking platform available for the Linux operating system. This
software is designed to effectively carry out both qualitative and
quantitative benchmarks in a clean, reproducible, and easy-to-use
manner. The Phoronix Test Suite consists of a lightweight processing
core (pts-core) with each benchmark consisting of an XML-based
profile with related resource scripts. The process from the benchmark
installation, to the actual benchmarking, to the parsing of important
hardware and software components is heavily automated and completely
repeatable, asking users only for confirmation of actions.

Description : high level email parsing and manipulation module

The Courriel class exists to provide a high level API for working with
emails, particular for processing incoming email. It is primarily a wrapper
around the other classes in the Courriel distro, especially
Courriel::Headers, Courriel::Part::Single, and Courriel::Part::Multipart. If
you need lower level information about an email, it should be available from
one of this classes.

This software is still very alpha, and the API may change without warning in
future versions.

python-requests allow you to send GET, HEAD, PUT, POST, and DELETE
HTTP requests. You can add headers, form data, multipart files, and
parameters with simple Python dictionaries, and access the response
data in the same way. It's powered by urllib2, but it does all the
hard work and crazy hacks for you.

The package will be maintained under the umbrella of the Debian Python

Bug#578750: [RFP] Kmid2 (again)

2011-06-11 Thread Pedro Lopez-Cabanillas
Hi Valerio,

You said:
> I fear that either the qt-kde debian team will refuse my kmid package
> anyway or that I might encounter problems with upstream author.

Sorry for the cross-posting. I am the upstream author, and somehow I've found
your message in the mailing list archives. I'm answering your message because
you deserve to know the facts, and mitigate your fear. I also have the right to
defend my reputation, and fight against any misinformation, propaganda or
innuendo against me coming from the IRC channels and mailing lists. I can't
talk about that theory of a mafia actively blocking Kmid, but I positively
assure you that I am not a monster.

Here are the facts. More than one year ago, in May/2010, Leandro (along with
his sponsor Ana Guerrero) was trying to package my Drumstick libraries for
Debian, because this package is required by Kmid2 (and by my other programs:
Kmidimon and Kmetronome, already in Debian). They found that Drumstick included
a dozen utility programs without the corresponding man pages, which are
required by Debian standards, so they asked me to write the man pages. I've
done so, committed the man pages to the SVN repository and sent him a patch
containing the requested man pages and build system changes. Instead of
applying this patch to his package, he answered me that the Drumstick and Kmid2
Debian packages were postponed until a future release of Drumstick that
included the man pages, giving me the argument that he works in Debian as a
volunteer, without time to waste processing patches. I was shocked by this
argument because I'm also a volunteer. I'm not paid for writing Kmid2 or any of
my other Linux programs. My relationship with them was seriously compromised,
and any future collaboration between down and upstream was doubtful, with these
precedents.

I want to say that I'm in very good relationship with other Debian developers:
Adrian, Free, Alessio, Arnout and Mehdi. I thank you for your work with my
programs, especially for the contributions that you made and sent upstream.

Debian is now the only major distribution not including Kmid2. For your
convenience, in Ubuntu you can find Kmid2 in these PPA's:
https://launchpad.net/~ferramroberto/+archive/testing/+build/1920542
https://launchpad.net/~kxstudio-team/+archive/ppa/+packages?field.name_filter=kmid2

Pedro

Bug#602050: ITP: supercollider -- A real time audio synthesis programming language

2011-06-11 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
On 11-06-11 at 03:07pm, Dan S wrote:
> It would be great if others can comment - anyone?

I did a quick look (don't expect much involvement - am involved in too
much at the moment already, and have some deadlines in RL too).

This looks bad:

> # The build system apparently can't handle this
> CXXFLAGS =

That and the DEB_SCONS_OPTIONS above it seems to indicate that it does
not follow Debian Policy §4.9.1. Only a recommendation apparently, but I
am uncertain if that only is _how_ to do it (i.e. DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS
hinting) while the underlying mechanisms (e.g. ability to build without
optimizations or without stripping binaries) is a must.

The -doc package should probably suggest the main package. Similarly
for the editor plugin packages (suggestions are too weak to cause a
"domino effect" so are in my opinion best to declare explicitly).

Oh, and why do editor plugins recommend -doc package? Seems they are
tools to write code, not closely related to the documentation of the
tool, so should perhaps be lowered to a suggestion.

And I guess main packages not suggest/recommend -doc package too.

What is the most proper build-dependency for jack these days? Here it
is "libjack-dev (>= 0.100) | libjack-jackd2-dev", which as I believe is
not wrong but seem to recall can be satisfied by a simpler dependency.

The clean rule does not fully cleanup. These files was left behind:

  common/.sconf_temp/
  common/.sconsign.dblite
  common/config.log

I will do an analysis on copyrights/licenses now - and hope not to find
anything controversial there

Regards,

 - Jonas

In lieu of any other responses (so far), the latter
(Replaces+Conflicts+Provides) seems to me to have the better
semantics, although we're not talking about virtual packages (which
policy 7.5 is pretty specific about). From reading the guide I can't
decide either; unless anyone can advise, maybe we should go for
 Replaces+Breaks.

I'm very grateful for your help in polishing up this package (indeed,
non-trivial). It would be great if others can comment - anyone?
And if not, what are the next steps?

Thanks a lot for the update! I now see that the SF RSS feed has been
updated, so we can have that source of information (f.e. for 0.10.6
release). I recently finished updating musicbrainz2 in Debian, so I'm
just starting to package this new version, I'll let you know if I find
something, but at first glance all points were fixed :)

extra nice.

Perfect! I'm integrating them with the package. Would it be a big
problem to keep in sync this file version with the program tarball? it
would help a bit the packaging, but we can workaround it :)

I have no idea who you are but what such kind of mails are doing in public
user support mailing list (debian-...@lists.debian.org)? This is a personal
attack in my book. What's more, you put words in other people's mouth.

I have read this paragraph and I don't understand what's the deal here. So
what, debian maintainer decided to wait until release. That's what Debian
maintainers do, i.e. they decide what's better Debian (or them at the
particular time), that's their right and duty. Sometimes users do not like (or
understand it), sometimes upstream does not like it, sometimes even
maintainers themselves don't like it (read during slow freezes).

Then work with them on kmid2 packaging rather than rant on user support
mailing list.

Description : Haskell command line parsing library

This library provides an easy way to define command line parsers. Most users
will want to use the System.Console.CmdArgs.Implicit module, whose
 documentation contains an example.
  - System.Console.CmdArgs.Explicit provides a way to write command line parsers
for both single mode programs (most programs) and multiple mode programs
(e.g. darcs or cabal). Parsers are defined by constructing a data structure.
  - System.Console.CmdArgs.Implicit provides a way to concisely define command
line parsers, up to three times shorter than getopt. These parsers are
translated into the Explicit data type.
  - System.Console.CmdArgs.GetOpt provides a wrapper allowing compatiblity with
existing getopt parsers, mapping to the Explicit data type.

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the pwsafe package.

The program is quite old, has been updated since 2005 (!), probably has
lingering licensing issues around openssl and the GPL, may even have
lingering security issues around the openssl debacle from a few years
back (I've not been able to figure out clearly either way). These are
important issues but are not ones I have the time or inclination to fix
right now. If this package will stay in Debian, it should have a
maintainer who will.

Ultimately, I no longer use pwsafe (there are several other more
featureful programs in Debian that I do use) and I cannot take the time
to give this package the attention it deserves.

If someone else uses the package and wants to adopt it, please contact
me after changing this bug to an ITA and I will send you some private
email that will might useful for a new maintainer about a couple
unresolved issues which might not be fully reflected in BTS. Otherwise,
I'll recommended that this package be removed from the archive at some
point in the future.

The package description is:
pwsafe is a unix commandline program that manages encrypted password
 databases.
 .
 Features:
  - Pure command-line operation if desired (good for remote access over ssh)
  - or can interact with X11 selection & clipboard.
  - Portable, endianess-clean, misaligned-access-free C++.
  - Compatible with CounterPane's PasswordSafe Win32 program versions 2.x
and 1.x. See http://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net/
