Isn't it a bit useless to package bsnes? mednafen (in Debian) has bsnes already integrated [1] (afaik also with netplay support). Maybe it would be better to help the mednafen maintainer [2]. For example nobody showed any reactions to the ubuntu bugs (and maybe from other derivatives). Maybe you could also provide some insight how to use the different emulation cores or something like that. Also the debhelper compat could be updated to 8, dh could be used in debian/rules and line endings fixed in copyright file. If you want upstream help then you could try to get all patches since bsnes v059 be applied on top of the mednafen version. Bug#625865: ITP: ocportal -- ocPortal is a Content Management System for building and maintaining a dynamic website
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Chris Warburton * Package name: ocportal Version : 6.1.1 Upstream Author : Chris Graham * URL : http://www.ocportal.com * License : CPAL Programming Lang: PHP Description : ocPortal is a Content Management System for building and maintaining a dynamic website ocPortal is a Content Management System (CMS), which acts as the "engine" to run sophisticated, dynamic Web sites. ocPortal attempts to include as much functionality as possible "out of the box", with options to disable unwanted modules after installation. An emphasis is placed on ease of use, with built-in GUIs for all common requirements, whilst reprogramming is supported through a system of file overrides. ocPortal sites can host content of various types including news, member blogs, events, galleries (images, video, audio, Flash), file downloads and user-defined "catalogue" data. Many modules are included for dynamic features such as forums, chat rooms, Wikis, commenting, rating, awards, trackbacks, polls, quizzes, ecommerce (products sales and usergroup subscription) and a 'points' system for rewarding contributors. Content can be made available in multiple languages and will be automatically analysed for Search Engine Optimisation. Powerful administration tools are available, including banner networks, a comprehensive admin zone with check lists and reminders, email newsletters (including automatic "What's new?" issues), site statistics, hacking detection and alerts, backups, theming tools and a powerful commandline environment. ocPortal is written in PHP, XHTML and Javascript and conforms to Web and Accessibility standards. Custom languages are included for theming/templating (Tempcode) and markup (Comcode), the latter being inspired by the "BBCode" language found on many forums. ocPortal includes its own forum, called OCF, but can also integrate or import many third-party forums and CMSs. There is currently at least some support for: AEF, Burning Board, IPB, Joomla, MKPortal, MyBB, phpBB, phpNuke, SMF, static HTML, vB, Wordpress and WowBB. ocPortal requires PHP 4.2+ or HipHop, MySQL and a Web server such as Apache. ocPortal development is supported by ocProducts Ltd. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". A quick package search for "cms" and "content management" in all suites gives 8 distinct, self-described CMS systems in Debian. 5 of these are written in PHP. For those which have entries, I've compared them on cmsmatrix.org and the most impressive entry is WebGUI, which is made in Perl. However, the (somewhat arbitrary) cmsmatrix feature count is still +4 in favour of ocPortal. Also, for those who are into it, ocPortal is under the Affero-style CPAL license, which is the reason I got involved in the project. Bug#609110: Activity
Greetings! Has there been any activity with the packaging of swfupload since the interest in January? I've followed the Git link posted above but cannot see any content, although for all I know this may be a permission issue. I'm asking because I'm working on packaging a CMS called ocPortal (ITP bug #625865 ), which includes swfupload. Obviously it would be better to rely on an external package, but since this ITP's already in the works I thought I'd enquire. Bug#598968: bsnes and mednafen
The latest stable versions of Mednafen, including the stable and unstable packages in Debian, do not have any SNES support. However, it looks like there is a WIP/Dev version of Medafen that includes bsnes to emulate SNES. Our Debian experimental repository includes a Mednafen WIP version, and looking at Emil's log it looks like the Debian experimental version supports SNES to some degree. I've been using Mednafen for several years. I like it. In the last few weeks I've used it to play Zelda Minish Cap for GBA and Zelda Oracle of Seasons for Gameboy. I didn't know that there were plans to include SNES support before today. The reason I created a bsnes package for Debian and tried to put it in the repositories is because I wanted a great SNES emulator in Debian (zsnes is only OK). I haven't found a Debian Developer who wants the same thing enough to sponsor me, though. Useless? Certainly not. It would be great to see bsnes in Debian, either as its own package or in mednafen. -Brandon -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? We had a security hole a few years ago; this was before I got involved, but there's details here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OcPortal#Criticisms Official ocPortal releases are managed by ocProducts, a company set up around ocPortal (and who pay my salary), and we have a clear security policy which can be found here http://ocportal.com/site/maintenance.htm . We also regularly run static code analysis tools on the codebase and we test every release with a hacked PHP runtime that 1) triggers errors if strings are not explicitly sanitised before going through eval, getting echoed to a browser or being entered into a database, and 2) enforces a type system on variables and function calls (based on type signatures written into the PHPdoc of every function), and raises an error if there is a type mismatch. I actually run this hacked PHP on my system in place of the distro's own. If there are specific security concerns I'd be happy to address them. Bug#625887: RFP: upskirt -- robust and fast Markdown filter
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: upskirt Version : git commit 7cb1a9e0270952ab6e4d Upstream Author : Natacha Porté, Vicent Martí * URL : https://github.com/tanoku/upskirt * License : MIT Programming Lang: C Description : robust and fast Markdown filter Upskirt The Markdown library that sucks less than your Markdown library Why doesn't Upskirt suck? Markdown is not easy to parse: it's not well standarized, and has a ton of unofficial extensions and corner cases which makes writing a parser for it not trivial. This also makes any Markdown parser or converter inherently sucky. Here's why Upskirt is the least sucky of the Markdown parsers: * If your Markdown library is not standards compliant, Upskirt is. Upskirt passes out of the box the official Markdown v1.0.0 and v1.0.3 test suites, and has been extensively tested with additional corner cases to make sure its output is as sane as possible at all times. * If your Markdown library doesn't support Markdown extensions, Upskirt does. Upskirt has optional support for several (unofficial) Markdown extensions, such as non-strict emphasis, fenced code blocks, tables, autolinks, strikethrough and more. * If your Markdown library is ready to be used in production, you are probably in for a surprise. Upskirt is the only Markdown library ready to be used in a production environment where users can submit arbritrary and potentially malicious contents to render. Upskirt has been extensively security audited, and includes protection against all possible DOS attacks (stack overflows, out of memory situations, malformed Markdown syntax...) and against client attacks through malicious embedded HTML. We've worked very hard to make Upskirt never crash or run out of memory under any input. Upskirt renders all the Markdown content in GitHub and so far hasn't crashed a single time. * If your Markdown library only does HTML, Upskirt does much more. Upskirt is not stuck with XHTML output: the Markdown parser of the library is decoupled from the renderer, so it's trivial to extend the library with custom renderers. A fully functional XHTML renderer is included. * If your Markdown library is slow, Upskirt is not. Upskirt is written in C, with a special emphasis on performance. When wrapped on a dynamic language such as Python or Ruby, it has shown to be up to 40 times faster than other native alternatives. * If your Markdown library has unreasonable dependencies, Upskirt doesn't. Upskirt is a zero-dependency library composed of 3 .c files and their headers. No dependencies, no bullshit. Only standard C99 that builds everywhere. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#625737: [Pkg-fonts-devel] Bug#625737: ITP: fonts-ricty -- High quality japanse fonts based on Inconsolata and Migu 1M

Hi everyone, It seems there are a number of issues with this ITP: This looks like a branch of Inconsolata. There are other derivative works out there like for example: https://github.com/cosmix/Inconsolata-Hellenic http://nodnod.net/2009/feb/12/adding-straight-single-and-double-quotes-inconsola/ https://build.opensuse.org/package/files?package=inconsolata-fonts&project=home%3Athomas-schraitle Regardless of the quality, coverage or legal soundness of these derivatives, they do not obsolete the main original version (tip) which is still being improved with hinting and display regression fixes for example. (with hopefully a new official release soon). They may be branches which get merged back into trunk (tip) or branches that end up becoming more useful that the original separately but they don't replace the original. AFAICT this derivative called ricty is really a merge of 4 different fonts under different licenses. And not a disjunct of the various licenses. The project-specific and organisation-specific M+ license is really a BSD-like (BTW it is missing a translation for non-Japanese speakers in the source tree). Why not advocate for use of an already established permissive non-copyleft attribution-only license like BSD / MIT instead? This would reduce licensing proliferation and allow increased cross-pollination with compatible projects. I don't know if this is intentional or not but the copyleft aspects of two of the three licensing models have been ignored here: this merge breaches section 5 of the OFL. And also breaches the IPA Font Licensing agreement article 3, 1. 3) (not that the IPA font license is particularly readable... but still). This goes against the author's original wishes in picking these licenses for their creation. You can't merge works coming from two different copyleft licenses together in any meaningful way... How can you satisfy the requirements of these licenses together and keep the project developing in a sane way? This will be very very confusing for designers wanting to build upon this work, not to mention users if Debian lets it go into main. (generally dual-licensing of fonts is a bit of a headache as well and not exactly recommended). This needs to be sorted. Joining the team like Christian suggested sounds like a good way to help do that and take advantage of the collective skill of pkg-fonts. I would respectfully suggest contacting the authors of these fonts to get them to consider licensing compatibility issues and maybe sending their patches upstream for inclusion in the mainline of Inconsolata. Or maybe there are other sets of glyphs from another font that offers the same coverage and quality in a more compatible way for appropriate merging? I freely admit that my knowledge of Japanese is sadly close to zero (I can barely write my own first name) but I'm confident Hideki-san or other Japanese speakers in our team can provide further help with these issues and upstream advocacy if they wish. Looking at all the work in our repository, Hideki-san surely has been quite successful (!) interacting with Japanese designers to get fonts released under licenses Debian users can safely use. The package description is: CVS is a version control system, which allows you to keep old versions of files (usually source code), keep a log of who, when, and why changes occurred, etc., like RCS or SCCS. Unlike the simpler systems, CVS does not just operate on one file at a time or one directory at a time, but operates on hierarchical collections of directories consisting of version controlled files. . CVS helps to manage releases and to control the concurrent editing of source files among multiple authors. CVS allows triggers to enable/log/control various operations and works well over a wide area network. I've been doing a mediocre job of maintaining cvs for a long time, basically keeping it alive on life support but little more. I no longer use cvs at all, so I should pass the package on to somebody else who cares (if anybody does). --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: cvs Source-Version: 2:1.12.13+real-4 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of cvs, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: cvs_1.12.13+real-4.diff.gz to main/c/cvs/cvs_1.12.13+real-4.diff.gz cvs_1.12.13+real-4.dsc to main/c/cvs/cvs_1.12.13+real-4.dsc cvs_1.12.13+real-4_amd64.deb to main/c/cvs/cvs_1.12.13+real-4_amd64.deb cvs_1.12.13+real.orig.tar.gz to main/c/cvs/cvs_1.12.13+real.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
