Re: Bug#602126: ITP: python-ase -- Atomic Simulation Environment
Hi, Le Mon, 14 Feb 2011 13:20:03 +0100 (CET), Ask Hjorth Larsen a écrit : > I guess a few things (like the fact that this should be for Debian > and not for Ubuntu) have to be changed, but otherwise things should > be in place with the possible exception of some policy issues. I'm also toying with a Launchpad PPA for now: https://launchpad.net/~pouillon/+archive/etsf-ubuntu This is more convenient for us at present, as Ubuntu Lucid is the most widespread distribution among the ETSF (http://etsf.eu/) developers. The current objective is to cover all dependencies of Abinit, in order to package its upcoming 6.6.1 version, refining the splitting of the binary packages at the same time. I'm currently working on the following packages: atompaw, wannier90, libfox95. Damien Caliste and Sylvestre Ledru have already made - or are in the course of making - some of the other packages available for Debian: etsf-io, libxc, bigdft. I don't have any sponsor yet for my packages. > With regards to maintenance, I'm not entirely clear on how we were > going to do things in the first place. Yann? As far as maintenance is concerned, I'm packaging the tools and libraries which require the biggest efforts in terms of upgrading the build systems and sometimes parts of the source code. In each case, I'm working in close contact with upstream developers, and I can already report a very successful collaboration for AtomPAW. For the rest, I fully trust the persons who volunteered to create and maintain a package. My only concern is to keep a good coordination among the ongoing efforts, since we have long-term objectives in the ETSF. I've been in contact with Andreas Tille for nearly 2 years, who initially suggested me to create and maintain a metapackage for Debian Science. After having discussed a few times of overlaps between metapackages with him and other people, I don't see any problem in DebiChem including some of the nanoscale-physics* packages in their own metapackages. Any help is of course very welcome as well. Just keep me in touch in order to avoid duplicate efforts. Bug#613806: ITP: mplayer2 -- next generation movie player for Unix-like systems

From the first look, it seems that mplayer2 > is better suited for being included in a distro release, but not (yet) > in its current form. Currently, it includes a copy of ffmpeg-mt, a I'm not sure if you've misunderstood something or just phrased things inaccurately, but I think this description is at least misleading for people who aren't already familiar with the setup. The player itself does not include a copy of any FFmpeg version, and can be compiled against any external library versions. However, using FFmpeg-mt is the best choice for the majority of users. Since there aren't packaged versions available for most distros (and it's not really suited for a systemwide install in its current form due to some API issues), the alternative recommended for most users is to statically link against a custom-compiled FFmpeg-mt. The build wrapper exists to make it easy to do this without needing separate manual library building steps. However, use of the wrapper is in no way forced, and users/packagers are free to choose what form of FFmpeg libraries to compile against. > well-known fork of the ffmpeg package, which features multithreaded h264 > decoding and actually is already in debian as part of the > chromium-browser package. While ffmpeg-mt is currently being > integrated/merged into ffmpeg upstream, mplayer2's future is not that > certain. If by future you mean the possibility of a merge with MPlayer 1, I think it's pretty certain that won't happen. It's possible that at some point MPlayer 1 will die and be completely replaced by MPlayer2, but any other kind of "merge" seems unlikely. > Having this in mind, I intend to maintain the package under the > pkg-multimedia umbrella. mplayer2 shoudl go to experimental for now, > including ffmpeg-mt. Help and ideas with that is more than welcome! I think having a package using FFmpeg-mt available is good, as it's a substantial performance improvement over anything available in Debian today. The iText classes are very useful for people who need to generate read-only, platform independent documents containing text, lists, tables and images. The library is especially useful in combination with Java(TM) technology-based Servlets: The look and feel of HTML is browser dependent; with iText and PDF you can control exactly how your servlet's output will look. Version 5 of the itext library is not backwards compatible with version 2, and so to avoid version conflicts the new version will be packaged as libitext5-java as agreed on the debian-java mailing list. --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: libitext5-java Source-Version: 5.0.5-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of libitext5-java, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: libitext5-java-doc_5.0.5-1_all.deb to main/libi/libitext5-java/libitext5-java-doc_5.0.5-1_all.deb libitext5-java_5.0.5-1.debian.tar.gz to main/libi/libitext5-java/libitext5-java_5.0.5-1.debian.tar.gz libitext5-java_5.0.5-1.dsc to main/libi/libitext5-java/libitext5-java_5.0.5-1.dsc libitext5-java_5.0.5-1_all.deb to main/libi/libitext5-java/libitext5-java_5.0.5-1_all.deb libitext5-java_5.0.5.orig.tar.gz to main/libi/libitext5-java/libitext5-java_5.0.5.orig.tar.gz libitext5-rups-java_5.0.5-1_all.deb to main/libi/libitext5-java/libitext5-rups-java_5.0.5-1_all.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Description: KDE source code checker Krazy scans KDE source code looking for issues that should be fixed for reasons of policy, good coding practice, optimization, or any other good reason. In typical use, Krazy simply counts up the issues and provides the line numbers where those issues occurred in each file processed. . This package provides the following programs: - krazy2 - checks one or various files given in command line - krazy2all - checks all supported files under the current directory - krazy2xml - a wrapper around krazy to generate results for EBN (see below) . These programs are being used by official KDE developers to find issues in their software, in fact they have a web page (English Breakfast Network a.k.a. Bug#517734: ITP: lusca -- Lusca Web Proxy Cache
Hi Adrian, Thanks for pointing this to me. :-) I'm actually restructuring the files under debian/ on the squid3 base, using cdbs and simplifying package management. There is actually no need to integrate this changes upstream. I can easily keep debian-related changes in my local repository, so that updates can be independent from your development. Can you please help me with some details? I'd like to know if - cachemgr.cgi and squidclient differ substantially from the squid version? If the protocol behind those two utilities is not changed a single copy can be distributed in the debian archive; - your package builds unstripped binaries, is this intended? Thanks for your directions.
