* Package name: gatling
  Version : 0.12
Upstream Author : Felix von Leitner
* URL : http://www.fefe.de/gatling/
* License : GPLv2
  Programming Lang: C
Description : High performance web server

Features
- Small! (125k static Linux-x86 binary with HTTP, FTP and SMB support)
- Fast! (measure for yourself, please)
- Scalable! (see this document, measured using tools that are included
in the
gatling distribution.
- Uses platform-specific performance and scalability APIs on Linux 2.4,
Linux
2.6, NetBSD current (2.0+), FreeBSD 4+, OpenBSD 3.4+, Solaris 9+, AIX
5L, IRIX
6.5+, MacOS X Panther+, HP-UX 11+
- connection keep-alive
- el-cheapo virtual domains (similar to thttpd)
- IPv6 support
- Content-Range
- transparent content negotiation (will serve foo.html.gz if foo.html
was asked
for and browser indicates it understands deflate)
- With optional directory index generation

accidentally)
- Supports FTP and FTP upload as well (upload only to world writable
directories and the files won't be downloadable unless you chmod a+r them
manually)

Domain
yet)
- El-cheapo .htaccess support (see README.htaccess)
- Quick-and-dirty SSL/TLS support (see README.tls)
- Can detect some common mime types itself, like file(1)
- Read-only SMB support (good enough to read a specific file from Windows or
using smbclient from Samba)

Bug#568039: ITP: gatling -- a small, high performance http and ftp server

2010-08-12 Thread Roland Stigge
Hi,

is there any progress in packaging gatling for Debian? Otherwise I could
help packaging.

Regarding the license (OpenSSL vs. GPL), you can find in gatling.1:

"LICENSE
   GPLv2 (see http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html) with an
exception to allow linking against openssl."

I consider this as an extension to the file LICENSE.

(@Alex:) Further, I doubt that tlsgatling currently just not building
against our /usr/lib/libcrypto.a is related to the OpenSSL vs. GPL
issue. libcrypto.a's obj_dat.o references __ctype_b_loc etc. from glibc,
which is not available in dietlibc which (tls)gatling tries to link
with. So we somehow need to offer a dietlibc version of libssl (maybe
just for the gatling build process).

Thanks for considering,

bye,
  Roland

Description: System load tool for the blackbox window manager
bbsload is a blackbox tool to display your system load. It
can show simple system bar graphs, including load averages
for 1, 5 and 15 minute periods, memory usage, swap usage,
total system usage, as well as CPU loads for user, nice
and system processes and idle time.

Note that you don't actually need blackbox for this program
to work, but it won't look as good in any other window manager.

Alexander Graf posted some patches in March that let MOL run on top of
the KVM (see here:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_name=1267872281-25512-1-git-send-email-agraf%40suse.de
 )
At least that makes it possible to use MOL on PPC64 machines.
Also Alexander Graf was added to the list of project developers a week
ago.

On the other side I still use a self-compiled MOL version on my AmigaOne
PPC machines (self-compiled because the AmigaOne needs a special MOL version,
selected by a compile option - however I guess that could be
made run-time selectable).
So I would really like to see further support for MOL in Debian, but
I'm afraid I lack the knowledge (in software packaging) and time to
do this. Well, I hope MOL will return to Debian as soon as it fully
supports KVM on PPC64 and PPC32 machines.

best regards,

Gerhard

Hi,

Smarty has been orphaned by Moritz recently, but as it seems without

I'm willing to adopt the package at least for the time being. However, I don't
have changes to make except cosmetic ones, which I don't think is useful to
upload into the archive now, considering we have the freeze and such cosmetic
change may hinder freeze exceptions for possible more important issues in the

So for now I'm just recording my intent here.

I orphan deborphan now since I'm not willing to make the old code ready
for Squeeze, nor do I want to have it released with the old code and the
new code will not be allowed to enter Squeeze due the freeze happening
before I (and probably most other Debian developers too) would have
expected it.

If you are interested in taking over this package please contact me,
I will explain you the issues you need to fix in the old code to make it
ready for Squeeze and what needs to be done to release the new code for
Squeeze+1.

Release team, please remove deborphan from Squeeze for now, it is
orphaned, abandoned upstream, has a serious bug (#592068) and has only
one reverse dependency. If someone adopts and fixes it, I assume, it
could still enter Squeeze again after reviewing the diff by a release
team member.

I would be happy to accept co-maintainers for deborphan after releasing
the version targeted for Squeeze. deborphan does not really need
a maintainer team, but if you are interested in contributing to this
package, you're welcome. Tasks like updating translations or asking
users for status files and reproducing their bugs also must be done, so
a possible lack of knowledge is no valid excuse ;)

Since people tend to run aptitude purge `deborphan` in loops [1] or use
similar constructs I saw in the past (including such that to not ask for
confirmation), non-orphaned packages displayed as orphans would lead to
unintended package removals. Having even the simplest form of multiarch
package relations in Squeeze+1 would lead to deborphan 1.7.28 missing
those dependencies and thus displaying non-orphaned packages as orphaned
during partial upgrades from Squeeze to Squeeze+1. Knowingly causing
unintended package removals for those users that use deborphan not the
way it is intended to be used (make an informed decision based on its
output) but blindly trust it based on their positive experience from the
past years is not an option for me nor is it what our users deserve.

Further spamming debian-release does not seem to be necessary, so please
remove this list in possible replies.

Regards
Carsten

Description: X wallpaper generator
XStarfish generates colourful, tiled images for your background using random
numbers fed through mathematical functions. It does not use source image
files, so it can generate its images nearly forever without running out of
 material.

AFAIK it's a small patch to export handle_mm_fault() to modules. Here's
the corresponding Debian bug report:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=460667

Are you sure about that? I was able to build mol with module-assistent
back in the days, has that seriously changed?

I guess part of the missing interest in MOL is the lack of support for
OSX 10.5 - it only supports it up to 10.4. I only found out about this
after I did finish the upgrade process about two years ago, and since
didn't notice any progress on these grounds.

Sorry to see it go nevertheless. Was fun.

Ah, right - that part. Was involved back then in the discussions to get
it applied - so this isn't an issue for within Debian. If we get mol
removed we might though want to tell the kernel team that they can feel
free to remove that patch again if they feel like it.

 So long,
Rhonda
