Bug#579569: ITP: ants -- advanced normalization tools for brain and image mapping

I'm not sure that "advance normalization tools" brings that much in
the synopsis but eating space that could better be used for something
more precise wrt the real use of the software.

The long description makes it clear what "ANTS" means, which is
enough.

Dropping the acronym expansion from the synopsis would help bringing
more important word there, such as "morphometric".

Bug#457075: Salomé packaging

2010-05-10 Thread Denis Barbier
Greetings,

I am not a Salome user, but here are some (hopefully not too stupid)
remarks about
   http://ftp-master.debian.org/new/salome_5.1.3-8.html

  * Binary packages are under the contrib/ section, AFAICT they can be
moved into main
  * libsalome and libsalome-dev ships a lot of shared libraries, some
of which with very generic names libe libHELLO.so or libLauncher.so.
This is a potential source of conflict, can all these libraries be
moved into a private directory like /usr/lib/salome/ ?
  * Libraries generated by swig have an underscore prepended, which
means that they are not opened by the dynamic loader and should be
moved into a private directory.
  * Ditto for binaries; and there is a concrete conflict, salome ships
/usr/bin/display which means that many people will not be able to
install this package since imagemagick is very popular. Can binaries
be moved into a private directory, like /usr/lib/salome/bin/ ? I
guess that runSalome and killSalome have to be put under /usr/bin/, I
can't tell for other binaries.
  * Binary packages seem to contain lots of tests
(/usr/bin/*[tT][eE][sS][tT]* or /usr/lib/lib*[tT][eE][sS][tT]*), can
they be dropped?
  * Description of the salome binary package has to be updated, AFAICT
there is no binary under /usr/bin/salome/
  * salome-common is quite large, are files under
/usr/share/salome/resources/med/ really needed? It looks like *.med
files are already provided by salome-examples.

Denis

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I'm hereby orphaning the gtkmathview package. It consists of a C++ library used
to render MathML documents to various backends, including GTK. Most notably, it
is used to support rendering of mathematical formulae in third party
applications, such as abiword.

The library has become quite stable in recent years, and upstream is friendly,
competent, and reponsive. The package is in collab-maint already, builds upon
autotools and has hence one-liner CDBS or dh7 debian/rules.

The maintenance burden is very low.

I'm copying the abiword maintainers: given that the sky-rocketing popcon of
gtkmathview is mainly due to them, they might want to maintain the package by
themselves to avoid breakages in abiword.

I'm filing the "O" bug now, I'll upload the actually orphaned package if noone
step up to take it over in a week or so (feel free to ping me if I forget).

Cheers.

Bug#573822: RFH: gwibber -- microblogging client for GNOME

2010-05-10 Thread Dionisio E Alonso
I am really interested in the package, even I've been hoping that
would be possible to package the Ubuntu version, but theirs, strongly
depends on Python2.6.

I have no idea in packaging except for some other Debian packages I
rebuilt my self just for adding compilation options to the package.
But I never made a package from scratch.

Since I do really want the package to be built, I could learn how. The
question is where to?

AFAIK:
- upstream is AWOL
- this package would contain ONE actual file
- it is not used anywhere else in Debian that we could find out

Therefore we have agreed to just keep this one file in the serendipity
package directly.

I am postgraduate from National Institute of Technology Durgapur, India and

Recently i had started a company with few of my friends YEINDIA (
www.yeindia.org).

We work on many projects like Automation softwares and Linux utilities and
in this summers we are
offering internship for students of different colleges and as one of our
internship projects i want to
continue development of this 9menu package as few students are very much
interested in that and want to take over its development as a maintainer of
it.

I want some guidance from you on this and want to know the procedure on
being its maintainer.

Bug#581031: RFP: mp3packer -- lossless rearranger of MP3 files to make them smaller

2010-05-10 Thread Rogério Brito
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: mp3packer
  Version : 1.20
  Upstream Author : Reed Wilson
* URL : http://omion.dyndns.org/mp3packer/mp3packer.html
* License : GPLv2+
  Programming Lang: OCaml
Description : lossless rearranger of MP3 files to make them smaller

MP3packer is a program which attempts to save space of MP3 files by
storing frame data in the smallest possible frame.

By default, the program generates the smallest MP3 possible (with the
least padding), transforming Constant Bitrate (CBR) files in Variable
Bitrate (VBR) files. With files generated by the LAME MP3 encoder with
"--preset insane", it can result in saving of up to 10% in size,
losslessly.

Furthermore, it can turn VBR files into CBR for use with players which
don't support VBR.

2010-05-10 Thread Luigi Gangitano
Hi Al,
I'm sorry for opposing your proposal before. I didn't check the automatic .po
installation feature of drupal 6.x (as long as a .po is in
/etc/drupal/6/profiles/default/translations it will be loaded by all sites).

I'd like to make available a separate package for each translation, so admins
can choose the ones they need, and would like each package to install it's .po
in the path above, so that it's installed automatically.

Regards,

Bug#579816: ITP: mswatch -- watch mailstores for changes and initiate mailbox syncs

2010-05-10 Thread Tino Keitel
Hi,

first, thanks for ITPing this package. I use mswatch on several
computers for some years now and already thought about packaging it
myself.

I think the package description is somewhat misleading:

"mswatch is a command line unix program that keeps two mailboxes
synchronized"

IMHO mswatch is a tool to _help_ keeping mailboxes synchronized, and it
depends on other tools for this. This is part of the second paragraph,
but it could be made more prominent.

I would also mention that mswatch needs to be installed on the remote
computer, too, because it doesn't work with standard mail protocols
such as IMAP and POP3. Of cause, this restriction can be described as
an advantage, together with the benefits from the second paragraph.

I'd be glad to help you packaging mswatch.

Regards,
Tino

Hello,

I want to adopt this package. Should I work with the package in
experimental or is there a public repository that would be a better
source? I think the first step is getting the new blender 2.50 alpha 1

Bug#581054: RFP: perspectives-extension -- Iceweasel/Firefox extension to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks

2010-05-10 Thread Jakub Wilk

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: perspectives-extension
  Version : 3.0
Upstream Author : Dan Wendlandt, Ethan Jackson, Ciprian Craciun
* URL : http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~perspectives/firefox.html
* License : GPLv2
  Programming Lang: JavaScript
  Description : Iceweasel/Firefox extension to prevent man-in-the-middle
attacks

Perspectives is a new approach to help clients securely identify
Internet servers in order to avoid "man-in-the-middle" attacks.
Perspectives is simple and cheap compared to existing approaches because
it automatically builds a robust database of network identities using
lightweight network probing by "network notaries" located in multiple
vantage points across the Internet.

This package is an extension to Iceweasel/Firefox browser that contacts
network notaries whenever your browser connects an HTTPS website.

Cannot help you on that one, though. I was not involved in any blender

* Package name: lv2vocoder
  Version : 1
  Upstream Author : Nedko Arnaudov
* URL : https://gna.org/projects/lv2vocoder
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : LV2 vocoder plugin
This vocoder plugin has 2 AUDIO inputs and 1 OUTPUT (of course). The first
INPUT is the "Formant" signal which is usually someone's voice. The second
INPUT is the "Carrier" signal which is some sort of continuous synth sound.
The "Carrier" signal is modulated to the "Formant".
There are a number of controls ports. The first one is the "Number of bands"
which is how many frequency bands to use (current maximum is 16). The rest of
the controls set the level of each individual band and should have a value
between 0.0 and 1.0. The lower numbered bands are lower in frequency the
higher numbered bands are higher in frequency.

Wow, this should have been changed a *long* time ago when Open CASCADE
was accepted to Debian main! Thanks, just made the change on alioth.

Good points. The default salome behavior is to have them in a private
directory (I think /usr/lib/salome), I moved them into /usr/lib , but
you bring up a good reason to put them in the private directory.

I'll test this in my next build.

Same as above, I'll see what happens if they're in a separate directory.

The plan is to move them into separate test binary packages.

You're right, that will just change to /usr/lib/salome/bin under the
plan you suggested.

Good point -- many of those can probably go into the test binary
packages as well.

The test packages are described in the recent discussion on Salome
packaging on the debian-science email list. [1] The others are errors I
really should have caught before!

I'm in contact with the upstream author, but not yet regarding the
Debian package. I'll forward the man pages upstream.

The default location can be overridden by a command line option (-D)

I edited and reformatted your description. How's this look?

Description: spliced and SNP-tolerant alignment for mRNA and short reads
This package contains the programs GMAP and GSNAP as well as
utilities to manage genome databases in GMAP/GSNAP format.
GMAP (Genomic Mapping and Alignment Program) is a tool for aligning
 EST, mRNA and cDNA sequences.
GSNAP (Genomic Short-read Nucleotide Alignment Program) is a tool for
aligning single and paired-end transcriptome reads.
Both tools can use a database of
 * known splice sites and identify novel splice sites.
 * known single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs).
GSNAP can align bisulfite-treated DNA.

I believe these claims are correct, but of course it wouldn't hurt to check.

Cheers,
Shaun
