Just wondering, considering the current move *away* from VRML with new
standards like WebGL, is there a compelling reason to add yet another
VRML browser ?

Is there a good and working VRML browser in Debian? What is the
package name? I have been looking for one to look at and transform my
VRML files. I would love one that could convert to STL format for
processing by 3D printer tools.

There are heaps of VRML files around, and I would love to have the
tools to process them in Debian.

Happy hacking,

Bug#574964: ITP: php-text-wiki -- Transforms Wiki and BBCode markup into XHTML, LaTeX or plain text markup

2010-03-22 Thread J.M.Roth
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

This is the base engine for all of the Text_Wiki sub-classes.
The text transformation is done in 2 steps.
The chosen parser uses markup rules to tokenize the tags and content.
Renderers output the tokens and text into the requested format.
The tokenized form replaces the tags by a protected byte value
associated to an index in an options table. This form shares up to 50
rules by all parsers and renderers.
The package is intented for versatile transformers as well as
 converters.
Text_Wiki is delivered with its own parser, which is used by Yawiki
or Horde's Wicked and three basic renderers: XHTML , LaTeX and plain
 text.
Strong sanitizing of XHTML is default.

Bug#574969: O: moodle

2010-03-22 Thread Penny Leach
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Even though we have a team for the maintenance of this package, we are
unfortunately unable to keep up with it. Therefore the team has agreed it
should be orphaned.

There's been a new upstream version for 2 years and the package is in a
pretty bad state. In my opinion, we inherited it in a pretty bad way and
to get the package to a maintainable state the packaging needs some serious
reworking, rather than just continuing to hack on the existing mess.

The edubuntu guys are interested in working together and we've done some
patch trading with them. If someone wants to pick up the package I'm sure
they'll find a good source of collaboration there.

If a maintainer isn't found for this package, I suggest it is removed from
the archive. I intend to start this process in a few weeks if a maintainer
isn't found.

Bug#574976: ITP: php-onyxrss -- uses PHP's built-in XML extension to quickly and accurately parse ALL versions of RSS including 2.0

2010-03-22 Thread J.M.Roth
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Free, open source php parser that minimizes bandwidth usage.
Great programming and wonderfully documented!
Uses object oriented programming and PHP's built in XML extension to quickly
and accurately parse ALL versions of RSS including 2.0.
Many other parsers use regular expressions to find specific data within files,
and are thus are limited to specific versions of RSS and are non-extensible.
To keep the server load low, feeds to be parsed can be kept in a mySQL database
on your own server with the format implied in the SQL statement.
Pages will be served up without any server-side processing, and a cron job and
be set up to call your page with the PHP code in it at desired intervals.
All parsed results can be exported to an external file, so the parser doesn't
have to get called everytime someone calls the page.
Requires PHP's built-in XML extension available by default on all recent
versions of PHP.

This package is required to fully debianize serendipity.
Having this package available would be part of closing #541740.

AFAIK, it only builds with gcc-4.5 and even then, treehydra doesn't
work. I don't remember if I tried gcc-4.4-plugin-dev, so I should
probably try (again?), but I definitely tried with gcc-4.5-plugin-dev,
and while dehydra worked, treehydra didn't.

Also, the copyright in the upstream source is obviously wrong: it reads
Copyright (C) 1983 Mozilla Corporation. Until this is clarified, I don't
expect this would pass NEW.

Cheers,

Mike

Yes, in the sense that I have a package here that just needs some details
smoothed. However, the biggest blocker is that simplesamlphp has non-free

ah, and since we are at it

- the proposed package name is the same of #566378
- the subject line should be "ITP: -- short description"

Bug#574969: Moodle debian-edu theme

2010-03-22 Thread Xavier Oswald
Hi,

I maintain the moodle-debian-edu-theme package.

I don't have enough time to adopt this package so if the package will be removed
from debian, please tell so I'll remove the moodle-debian-edu-theme package too.

I should be able to spend a little bit time on moodle. So if someone is
interested to adopt it, I will be happy to help with packaging.

You might also want to add links:

I would if I had write access to that repository. Who should I contact?

Hi,

my name is Alberto Garcia. I work at Igalia with Joaquim Rocha, the
lead developer of OCRFeeder.

I'd like to maintain this program for Debian. I'm not a DD myself so
I would need a mentor, but I have some experience with the Debian
packaging system and I'm already maintaining the Vagalume Last.fm
client:

http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=agarcia%40igalia.com

If this seems ok to you, I'll submit an ITP later today or this week.

Bug#574984: ITP: htmlunit-core-js -- JavaScript language support for HtmlUnit

2010-03-22 Thread Ludovico Cavedon
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Ludovico Cavedon

* Package name: htmlunit-core-js
  Version : 2.7
  Upstream Author : Mike Bowler
* URL : http://htmlunit.sourceforge.net/
* License : MPL-1.1
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : JavaScript language support for HtmlUnit

HtmlUnit is a "GUI-Less browser for Java programs". It models HTML
documents and provides an API that allows you to invoke pages, fill out
forms, click links, etc... just like you do in your "normal" browser.

It has fairly good JavaScript support (which is constantly improving)
and is able to work even with quite complex AJAX libraries, simulating
either Firefox or Internet Explorer depending on the configuration you
 want to use.

It is typically used for testing purposes or to retrieve information
 from web sites.

HtmlUnit is not a generic unit testing framework. It is specifically a
way to simulate a browser for testing purposes and is intended to be
used within another testing framework such as JUnit or TestNG. Refer to
the document "Getting Started with HtmlUnit" for an introduction.

This package contains the JavaScipt support library. Core language
support for JavaScript is provided by the Mozilla Rhino engine. What
HtmlUnit provides are all the browser specific host objects such as
 Document or Navigator.

I'd be interested in testers of the package once I move it to mentors,

Description: dockable clock applet for various window managers
Lal is a clock for the dock. Nothing more, nothing less. It is a very
simple tool especially helpful for those that are using openbox. It
can use various colors, sizes, formats, etc. It can accept any POSIX
 date format.

Note: Version 1.1 is currently sitting in the upload queue. I am hoping
to finish version 2.0 within a few months that will come with many new
features such as a calendar. One goal of the new version will be to check
through the code to see if this tiny file can be stripped down at all to
make it even more light weight.
I'm working with the upstream authors to bring this release which is why
I refer to anticipated features for this version.

Hi,

My efforts tailed off a bit once I had a package that seemed to build
from source correctly but didn't actually work (some function was
returning 0 that wasn't expected at run time). I've been rather busy
with work lately and haven't had a chance to touch it since, but I'll
definitely be picking this one up again in a week or two.

I've not looked at license issues yet and I'm slightly concerned about
long term support for older releases of weave - this needs to be
checked with upstream and/or the server side components packaging also
before it is suitable to be included in a release.

I'm not sure if you're a DD/DM, would you be interested in
co-maintaining this with the mozilla extensions team?

Thanks,
Alan

This is great, thank you!

How do you feel about maintaining ocrfeeder in a team? The
Python Applications Packaging Team comes into my mind, as the
program seems to be written in Python. You can easily join the
team. First get an account at alioth.debian.org, second go to
https://alioth.debian.org/projects/python-apps/ and click on
"[Request to join]". The team uses Subversion as VCS.

Just rename the bug title accordingly. See

Bug#515431: ITA: povray -- Persistence of vision raytracer (3D renderer)

2010-03-22 Thread Oliver Korff
Hi,

My intention was to keep povray in the distribution, because I liked the
software itself. But I
now have make the conclusion, that packaging it is not the thing I would like
to do anymore.

* First: I didn't read the license as careful as Raphael. I really hate not to
be able to package
the beta for experimental. (I had already started...)

* Second I have had a glance into the projects Mailings and Mailinglist and I
dislike the spirit,
that is spread by the main developer(s). I do not see that any debian related
task would get a help
of upstream.

That is my personal opinion and migt be wrong. But because of this I will give
up in taking over
the packaging.

Sorry,

Oliver

Bug#575035: ITP: liblog-any-perl -- Perl module for logging mechanisms.

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Ivan Kohler
Owner: Ivan Kohler

* Package name: liblog-any-perl
  Version : 0.11
  Upstream Author : Jonathan Swartz
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Log-Any/
* License : Perl
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Perl module for logging mechanisms.

Log::Any allows CPAN modules to safely and efficiently log messages,
while letting the application choose (or decline to choose) a logging
mechanism such as Log::Dispatch or Log::Log4perl.

Log::Any has a very tiny footprint and no dependencies beyond Perl
5.6, which makes it appropriate for even small CPAN modules to use. It
defaults to 'null' logging activity, so a module can safely log without
worrying about whether the application has chosen (or will ever choose)
a logging mechanism.

The application, in turn, may choose one or more logging mechanisms
via Log::Any::Adapter.

You should have a look at already existing "bouncycastle" source package
[1] which provide those binary packages :
libbcmail-java - Bouncy Castle generators/processors for S/MIME and CMS
libbcpg-java - Bouncy Castle generators/processors for OpenPGP
libbcprov-java - Bouncy Castle Java Cryptographic Service Provider
libbctsp-java - Bouncy Castle generators/processors for TSP

I don't know if current package contains every module from upstream but
I'm sure current team (hint: pkg-java) behind it will welcome any new
Uploaders :)

Nice to hear that.

Please have a look to:
http://packages.qa.debian.org/m/moodle.html

You will see lot of bugreports and even an RC bug.

BTW, it's better to reply to the 'orphaning bugreport'
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=574969

So everybody following the moodle package will notice that you could be
interested in taking it.

Bug#533708: ITP: libhugetlbfs -- Tools and Library access huge pages of memory

2010-03-22 Thread Frank Lin PIAT
[re-sending, with proper debian-devel address, sorry for the noise]

Hello Christopher and all,

This ITP was stalled, so I packaged this tool. I am looking for one or
more co-maintainer (read more at the bottom).

On Fri, 2009-06-19 at 15:18 -0700, Simmons, Christopher wrote:

* Package name: libhugetlbfs
  Version : 2.7
  Upstream Authors: Eric B Munson

* URL : http://libhugetlbfs.sourceforge.net/
* License : LGPL-2.1
  Programming Lang: C
Description : Tools and Library access huge pages of memory

::libhugetlbfs::
Description: A library which provides access to huge pages of memory
libhugetlbfs is a library which provides easy access to huge pages of
memory. It is a wrapper for the hugetlbfs file system. Applications
can use huge pages to fulfill malloc() requests without being
recompiled by using LD_PRELOAD. Alternatively, applications can be
linked against libhugetlbfs without source modifications to load BSS
or BSS, data, and text segments into large pages.

::hugepages::
Description: A set of tools to configure huge pages of memory
This package contains a number of utilities that will help administrate
the use of huge pages on your system. hugeedit modifies binaries to
set default segment remapping behavior. hugectl sets environment
variables for using huge pages and then execs the target program.
hugeadm gives easy access to huge page pool size control. pagesize
lists page sizes available on the machine.

My current work is available from:
 http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/libhugetlbfs.git

Co-maintainer wanted

I am looking for a co-maintainer for this package. There are two reasons
for that: 1) I can't write C, well not really. 2) I believe that every
package should be co-maintained (in a perfect world anyway).

You should be prepared to handle all the aspects of the packaging which
are specific to C and/or library handling. I can help for other aspects
of packaging, bug handling, backporting patches, etc...

Great. I should have looked better

This package have a new upstream release anyway, so I could
contribute to update it.

Thanks for the pointer.

I know you only filed it ~1 week ago, but... is there any news on this ITP? :)
Do you need any help, assistance, sponsoring, anything?

Ciao,
David
