What's the status of this ITP? Are preliminary packages available

What a coincidence! Yesterday I uploaded them to mentors.debian.net.

First of all version 1.2.3 has never been released, instead 1.3 is
used as initial package (which has been released yesterday, too).

I had the packaging done for quite some time by the way, but waited
for this release, since I contacted the author to fix bugs upstream
instead of using lots of debian specific patches (e.g. lintian
complained about wrong formed and missing manpages).

On Sun, Apr 26, 2009 at 11:05:04AM +0200, Reinhard Tartler wrote:

I am searching for a sponsor, so feel free to do so ;)

Last but not least the links:

For sponsoring the package have a look @ mentors.debian.net

For getting preliminary packages have a look at this page:

Hi,
I've uploaded subtitlecomposer to debian-mentors some days ago, but I noticed
I forget to add a .menu file, and I wrote wrong build-depends. The package is
available here:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/subtitlecomposer/
I'll check your package (thanks for noticing, yes, might help my packaging
efforts), fix my mistakes quoted above, and I hope to upload the -2 version to
debian-mentors and request for an sponsor the next week. However, I don't know
how much time it will get to be available in debian because I guess the debian
qt/kde maintainers (the most welcomed to soponsor this package) are now a bit
busy managing old bug reports from kde 3 and doing stuff related to the kde3-
>kde4 upgrade.

2009-04-26 Thread Vincent Bernat
retitle 501774 ITP: python-pyjamas -- Python-to-Javascript compiler and
AJAX-based Web Widget library
thanks

Hi Luke!

I am interested into getting Pyjamas into Debian. I have retitle this
bug as an ITP which is what you should have done to ensure that no one
else is working on it. As you are the owner of the bug, this now means
that you intent to package Pyjamas.

I have looked at your package and... hum... there are a lot of problems
with it. There is a lot of work to do to be able to upload them to
Debian. Are you still interested to package it yourself? This means that
you would have to read the new maintainer manual and also the debian
python policy. If yes, contact me, I will help you.

The other way to go would be to hand me the ITP and let me package
pyjamas. If you are not really interested to package softwares for
Debian, this would be the easiest choice. We can also co-maintain the
package.

Let me know.

Actually, now that I saw the m.d.n package, yours seems to be better, so I'll
archive mine.

There is no need to upload a -2 version - simply modify the package and keep the
version number -1. It should only be incremented if the lower version is in the
archive already.

I suggest writing an RFS to the debian-mentors mailing list according to the
template on m.d.n.

Bug#523338: ITP: radare -- Free advanced command line hexadecimal editor

2009-04-26 Thread Reinhard Tartler

AFAIUI sponsor requests should go to debian-mentors. Please not that I'm
not a mentors regular, so I'm not really sure of the exact procedures
here. Nevertheless, I'm copying the mailing list.

Sebastian Reichel writes:

> I am searching for a sponsor, so feel free to do so ;)

My preliminary review of
http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor-pkglist?action=details;package=radare

minor points:

 * spurious configure target, please remove it.

 * build-target could be improved, e.g. by placing both variants in
different make targets. also consider a VPATH build.

 * clean rules unpatches before running clean. This will break if you
had modifications to the clean parts of the build system. You don't
do that here, but I'm mentioning it just in case.

The src/arch directory seems to contain source files of various
licenses, that I believe are part of the created binaries. I therefore
do not think that we can redistribute the radare binary under
GPLv2. E.g.:

  - src/arch/dalvik seems to come from the android project, which is
Apache License 2.0. Please note that in debian/copyright.

  - src/arch/x86/udis86/* seem to be BSD licensed.

  - the files in src/arch/sparc seem to be GPL-3 licensed.

In general, run the tool `devscripts -r .` in the top level root
directory to get a brief license check. AFAIUI this is the tool
ftpmaster uses to examine NEW packages.

I fear debian/copyright needs to mention all this. Are there other
opinions on that from mentors?

Context Free is a program that produces images based on context-free grammars.
These grammars are sets of non-deterministic rules that determine what an image
should look like. The resulting images often resemble a mix of spirograph
drawings, fractals and abstract art.
.
Context Free can generate images with millions of shapes, in PNG (up to 100
megapixels) or SVG format. It can also produce animations. Many example
images are included.

Bug#525737: O: oprofile -- system-wide profiler for Linux systems

2009-04-26 Thread Al Stone
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I am orphaning the oprofile package. I no longer use this
package much, and it needs a lot more care than I have the
time or inclination to provide these days (including an
upgrade to the latest upstream version). OProfile is used
by quite by quite a few folks so it deserves to have a good
home.

The package description is:
OProfile is a performance profiling tool for Linux systems, capable
of profiling all running code at low overhead. It consists of a
daemon for collecting sample data, plus several post-profiling tools
for turning data into information. Using OProfile also requires
a kernel module, either contained in a separate package called
'oprofile-modules' for 2.2 and 2.4 kernels, or for 2.6 kernels,
the OProfile kernel module is part of the Linux kernel source and
must be built from the 'kernel-source' package.
 .
OProfile leverages the hardware performance counters of the x86 CPU and
the PMU (Performance Monitoring Unit) of the ia64 CPU to enable profiling
of a wide variety of interesting statistics, which can also be used for
basic time-spent profiling. All code is profiled: hardware and software
interrupt handlers, kernel modules, the kernel, shared libraries, and
applications (the only exception being the OProfile interrupt handler
itself). Note that different architectures can use different hardware
 mechanisms to collect data.
 .
OProfile is currently in alpha status; however it has proven stable over
a large number of differing configurations. As always, there is no warranty.

Bug#525744: O: laptop-net -- Automatically adapt laptop Ethernet

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I am orphaning the laptop-net package. I no longer use this package
and no longer have the time nor inclination to give it the care it
needs. Before adopting the package, be aware that NetworkManager does
some but not all of the same things, and it might make sense to subsume
laptop-net functionality within NetworkManager.

The package description is:
The laptop-net package supports the built-in Ethernet of laptops by
providing several integrated features that automatically adapt the
laptop to the network environment. The package is easily configured
to support a wide variety of network environments, and supports
manual as well as automatic management of the network interface.
 .
Laptop-net can automatically: start and stop the network interface at
appropriate times; disable the network interface when the network
cable is removed, and enable it when the cable is inserted; select
the network interface's IP address, either by probing the network for
known hosts or by use of the DHCP protocol; customize the laptop's
software configuration to match the network interface's IP address.

Description : graphical tool to browse and edit PyTables and HDF5 files

ViTables is a component of the PyTables family. It is a graphical tool for

 .
ViTables capabilities include easy navigation through the data hierarchy,
displaying of real data and its associated metadata, a simple, yet powerful,
browsing of multidimensional data and much more.

One of the greatest strengths of ViTables is its ability to display very large
tables. Tables with one thousand millions of rows (and beyond) are navigated
stunningly fast and with very low memory requirements. So, if you ever need to

thanks

Dear Karl Ferdinand,

In the hope of speeding up and strenghtening the processing of NEW I had a look
at your package. The rationale is explained in the proposal in the following
wiki page: http://wiki.debian.org/CopyrightReview

Fortunately, I have not found any problem with your copyright file :)

Have a nice week-end,

I've uploaded the source package here until it is approved:

unofficial-clamav-sigs to clamav-unofficial-sigs so I asked upstream to
do the rename.
