Bug#514969: co-maintainership of zinnia, tegaki and related packages

2009-02-19 Thread Rolf Leggewie

Daobing,

thank you for your work on packaging this nice piece of software. I'm
interested in co-maintaining this with you. I do have a sponsor so that
should help. I can't yet compile your package since I am still on hardy
which has debhelper 6. I'll try to either relax that constraint or get
a backport of dh.

Regards

Rolf

Bug#452352: ITA: cfengine2 -- Tool for configuring and maintaining network machines

2009-02-19 Thread Antonio Radici

Hi,
the package is ready to be uploaded, I've moved everything
to git, migrated to debhelper7 and fixed some bugs

The upload would fix these bugs: 366819, 452352, 506732

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/c/cfengine2
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/c/cfengine2/cfengine2_2.2.9-1.dsc

The package is also lintian clean.

I sent a mail to debian-mentors@ and I'm waiting for someone to review
it and upload it.

Cheers
Antonio

Bug#495362: exmap

2009-02-19 Thread Steve Cotton
I'm not offering to adopt, just adding a few notes.

The kernel module won't compile with kernel 2.6.26 (patch in bug
495335 ). For 2.6.27 a second patch is needed, which is attached
to Ubuntu's LaunchPad bug 284863 .

Arch Linux also has a fair bit of info:
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=6760

I think this bug may be specific to amd64:
#453852 [grave] exmap: Assertion failure at startup
Popcon suggests that that it still works for some people (33 votes
for a developer-specific package that's only in Etch + Sid).

The package will need to be updated / removed for the transition
to versioned Boost packages, possibly a good time to remove it if
it's still orphaned.

They aren't similar in this regard, it says on the KDE-apps page that

It would be good to get this included now that we don't have

I do not see a libibumad tarball there, I did find OFED-1.4.tgz which contained
a SRPM for it... if this is the only way upstream distributes these libraries,
please suggest to them that it is better if they publish normal tarballs.

I have absolutely no clue what this does, except that it has something to do
with InfiniBand. What is MAD? What is OpenSM? What functionality does this
library provide? Also drop "OpenFabrics Alliance" from the short description.
If you want to mention it, do it in the long description.

Bug#514690: Regarding RFS: Artha

2009-02-19 Thread Sundaram
Hi Andreas,
I was wondering if you have uploaded the package to the Debian repository. I
apologize if I sound demanding or pestering here :)

I am just curious, how will I know if the upload of the package is done or if
the check-in of the control files into the Debian Science SVN is done?

Thanks!

Oops! I did see the attachment, but didn't bother to open it, since I thought
its what I uploaded in mentors. Forgive my ignorance.
Gee! All the changes are already done, thanks!

Okay, I will write to them regarding this. Since Tcl/Tk installation alone
takes up around 20 MB, while the actual WordNet is only 10 MB, totalling the
WordNet package to 30 (apprx.) Artha would be a decent replacement for just 300
kb (since Glib and GTK will be there defualt in 90% of the *nix operating
systems).

Still, am not sure of this though. The reason is that a very few of the options
that WNB has are not in Artha. Coordinate Terms, Satillite adjectives and
Example frames is the missing list as far as I know, by-heart. The reason for
this discrepancy is that I deliberately designed/developed Artha imaging it as
a user-friendly thesaurus, while WNB is an illustrator of all the available
options of WordNet, by 'all' I mean, those which might not interest the common
user too like Sentence Frames for instance: When no example is present for a
word, it gives "Something is ing" as an example frame where the user could
fit in, while this might not be what a thesaurus shows for a light user, hence
I removed it. Because of these reasons, I am not sure. Let us see, I will write
to Princeton some time.

Now that all the issues in the source package is removed, kindly upload the
same :)

Thanks!

Best Regards
Sundaram Ramaswamy

Well, if you try to build artha in a pbuilder chroot it is just missing python.

Yes - a source package has no arch. The binary package can be builded at
different arches - but this is of no interest for the sponsor because he
will build the package himself. So there is no need for uploading binary
packages.

A, sorry for my ignorance - you are not only the author of Debian
packaging stuf but also the author of artha code - so you actually
are one of the involved parties. ;-))

So if I where you I would ask WordNet authors whether they are
interested to either replace their TclTk code by artha or at least
add it to the upstream source of their next release. IMHO artha is
a nice replacement for wnb.

No pestering me is the right way to go. My plan is to do this either
at the weekend or at least next monday. Just try perstering again
to remind me in case this task might silently go down on my todo
list without notice.

I am just curious, how will I know if the upload of the package is done or if

My plan is to check in first to enable putting the right Vcs fields
into the control file. I assume you are OK with the cdbs usage?

Thanks for the remainder - it is perfectly welcome on my side

No pestering me is the right way to go. My plan is to do this either
at the weekend or at least next monday. Just try perstering again
to remind me in case this task might silently go down on my todo
list without notice.

My plan is to check in first to enable putting the right Vcs fields
into the control file. I assume you are OK with the cdbs usage?

Thanks for the remainder - it is perfectly welcome on my side

http://meetings-archive.debian.net/pub/debian-meetings/ contains 393 GB of

are very useful.

Bug#478755: packaging workflow proposal

2009-02-19 Thread Thomas Koch
I learned about the package dh-make-php, which would make the packaging of eZ
Components very easy, based on the pear packages provided by upstream.

Necessary steps:

mkdir ezc-packages
cd ezc-packages

pear channel-discover components.ez.no
pear download-all -c ezc

export DEBFULLNAME="Thomas Koch"
export DEBEMAIL="thomas.k...@ymc.ch"

#all normal packages get prefixed with php-ezcomponents

for C in $(ls -1| grep -v eZComponents); do \
dh-make-pear --prefix php-ezcomponents- $C;\
done

# The metapackage will become php-ezcomponents
dh-make-pear eZComponents-2008.2.1.tgz

# Put all the dependencies in the control files.
for C in $(find . -maxdepth 1 -type d); do \
../get_package_dependencies.php $C; \
done

# put in the bugnumber in the changelogs of all packages
# see e.g. vim help chapter 26.3

  * Initial Release (Closes #478755).

# copy a copyright file in all packages.

#rm extra LICENSE, dummy files:
find . -name LICENSE -exec rm {} \;
find . -name dummy -exec rm {} \;

#build all packages
for C in $(find . -maxdepth 1 -type d -name "php-*"); do \
cd $C; dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -kC5D1DD42; cd .. ;\
done

# check all packages
for C in $(ls -1 *.deb);do echo $C; lintian $C;done

--

Remaining issue:

If upsteam would provide better descriptions in the pear messages, then
one would avoid editing them for the Debian packages. I filled an issue
about that, but it has already been closed as "won't do":

http://issues.ez.no/IssueView.php?Id=14503

The workflow can be repeated for every new release of the components.
The php script for the dependencies is attached.

Any objections against this workflow?

Best regards,

According to this post (I haven't checked myself), this is the same
version as in linux 2.6.28 (except it can be compiled against previous
kernel versions).

The 2.6.28 was uploaded yesterday to Debian, we will all benefit from
this soon ;-)

BTW, I have tested the 1.9 module with success, but I hadn't noticed
major problems with the previous releases.

Now, the other utilities should be packaged for Debian to make life
easier.

Cheers,
Julien

This package is a tool originally developped by Ubuntu to convert Debian-based
systems to UTF-8 locales. It has seen
minor upgrades to bring it into line with Python packaging policies since being
imported into Debian, but some issues
remain open. There were a few offers to adopt this package, but nothing has
happened, hence why I'm orphaning this.

Bug#516222: RFA: libnet -- library for the construction and handling of network packets

2009-02-19 Thread David Paleino
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the libnet package.

Unfortunately, upstream seems dead, there is a "beta" version available (but it
would require a SONAME bump -- since the previous maintainer put a wrong
-version in the autotools files) -- and I'm not a great C coder. Thus, I will
maintain it in the meanwhile, but I expect someone to take it over. Chris,
you're listed in Uploaders -- would you please take it?

The package description is:
libnet provides a portable framework for low-level network packet
 writing and handling.
 .
libnet features portable packet creation interfaces at the IP layer
and link layer, as well as a host of supplementary functionality.
 .
Using libnet, quick and simple packet assembly applications can be
whipped up with little effort. With a bit more time, more complex
programs can be written (Traceroute and ping were easily rewritten
 using libnet and libpcap).

Kindly,
David

Bug#516255: RFA: azureus -- BitTorrent client

2009-02-19 Thread Shaun Jackman
Package: wnpp

Azureus is a BitTorrent client. The upstream package has been renamed
to Vuze and now has a focus on distributing and playing multimedia
content.

Azureus is implemented in Java and uses SWT, the cross-platform widget
toolkit for Java used primarily by the Eclipse IDE.

Eclipse packages the SWT libraries (see the source package eclipse and
the binary package libswt3.2-gtk-java), but these tend to be too out
of date to compile Azureus. For this reason, I maintain a separate
copy of SWT for GTK (see the source package swt-gtk and the binary
package libswt-gtk-3.4-java). The adopter of Azureus would need to
also adopt SWT.

Cheers,
Shaun
