Bug#460341: ITP: eaccelerator-src -- sources for PHP's eAccelerator module

2008-01-12 Thread Alexander Gerasiov
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alexander Gerasiov <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: eaccelerator-src
  Version : 0.9.5.2
* URL : http://eaccelerator.net/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : sources for PHP's eAccelerator module

 eAccelerator is a free open-source PHP accelerator, optimizer, and dynamic
 content cache. It increases the performance of PHP scripts by caching them
 in their compiled state, so that the overhead of compiling is almost completely
 eliminated. It also optimizes scripts to speed up their execution. eAccelerator
 typically reduces server load and increases the speed of your PHP code by 1-10
 times.
 .
 Unfortunatly it could not be distribured in binary form as it links againg
 GPL-incompatible PHP. eaccelerator-package will build eAccelerator debian
 package for you.
 .
 This package contain eAccelerator's source code.

Bug#325885: ITP: readahead-list -- read files into the page cache

2008-01-12 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
[Petter Reinholdtsen]
> Hi. Any progress on your plan to package readahead-list?

I got a draft package based on the Ubuntu version
1:0.20050517.0220-0ubuntu11, and plan to upload it today unless I hear
from you. I added LSB headers to the init.d scripts to get it working
with insserv.

One thing that occur to me is that the package names in the ubuntu
package contain some historical cruft, and we might want to reconsider
the package names in Debian. The source package is called
readahead-list, and it generates two binary packages readahead and
readahead-list. The latter is a transition package only pulling in
readahead. There should be no need for a transition package in
Debian.

On the other hand, it does not make sense to let the readahead-list
source package only generate the readahead package, so it might make
more sense to drop readahead and only make a readahead-list binary
package. It all depends on the scopes defined for the packages, I
guess.

As Ubuntu might be seen as upstream for this package, it make sense to
avoid needless divergence from the Ubuntu package. This is an
argument for keeping readahead as the binary package with content.
One could also generate one binary package providing both the names,
to ease upgrades.

One thing to consider is that some people compiled readahead on their
own and are already using it. Popularity-contest report 8
installations of readahead, and none of readahead-list. To ease their
upgrade path, it is best to let the binary be called readahead.

Here is the diff with the LSB headers.

 This module collects ip validation routines to make input
 validation, and untainting easier and more readable.
 All functions return an untainted value if the test passes, and
 undef if it fails. This means that you should always check for a
 defined status explicitly. Don't assume the return will be true.

  Description : Basic library for maemo applications

Libosso is the basic library containing required and helpful functions
for maemo applications. One of Libosso's main features is RPC (Remote
Procedure Calls) services (as it "wraps" D-Bus). In addition, Libosso
provides access to low-level hardware functions, such as turning on (or
keeping on) the display, autosaving, state saving and system time.
.
All maemo-compliant applications must use Libosso to respond coherently
to system changes and signals, such as the battery low, pre-shutdown
and state saving signals.

This package will be maintained by the pkg-maemo group.

  The Tesseract OCR engine was originally developed at HP between 1985 and 1995.
  It was open-sourced by HP and UNLV in 2005 and Google has lead further
 development.
 .
  The Tesseract OCR engine was one of the top 3 engines in the 1995 UNLV
 Accuracy test. Between 1995 and 2006 it had little work done on it, but it
 is probably one of the most accurate open source OCR engines available. It
 will read a binary, grey or color image and output text.

 Traits lets programmers create special Python attributes called
 traits that support the following:
  * Initialization: A trait attribute can have a default value
  * Validation: A trait attribute is manifestly typed.
  * Delegation: The value of a trait attribute can be contained in
another object
  * Notification: Setting the value of a trait attribute can fired
callbacks
  * Visualization: With the TraitsUI package, GUIs can be generated
automatically from traited objects.
 .
 The Traits UI package is a set of GUI (Graphical User Interface)
 tools designed to complement Traits. It is based on the wxPython GUI
 toolkit and implements a Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture on
 top of traits.

Description: "WenQuanYi Zen Hei" The first open-source Chinese font for Hei Ti
 The WenQuanYi Zen Hei is the first open-source Chinese font
 for Hei Ti, a sans-serif font style that are widely used for
 general purpose Chinese text formatting, and on-screen
 display of Chinese characters (such as in Windows Vista and MacOS).
 Simple and elegant font outlines and slightly emboldened strokes
 makes the glyphs presenting higher contrast and therefore easy
 to read. The unique style of this font also provide a simple
 interface for adding grid-fitting information for further
 fine-tuning of the on-screen performance.
  .
 WenQuanYi Zen Hei contains arguably the largest number of Chinese
 Hanzi glyphs of all known open-source outline Chinese fonts: it has
 20194 Hanzi glyphs covering 97% of the Unicode CJK Unified
 Ideographics . This font provides full coverage to the required
 code points for zh_cn, zh_sg, zh_tw, zh_hk and zh_mo locales. The
 total vector glyphs in this font is 35206 including over 10,000
 Hanguls, Japanese kanas, Latin characters and symbols from many
 other languages.
 .
 The primary purpose of developing this font is to provide CJK
 (Chinese-Japanese-Korean) users a visually pleasing, standard
 compliant, platform independent and compact solution for displaying
 and printing Chinese on their computers.
 .
 This package has dropped the embedded bitmap font out.

 The traits package provides a metaclass with special attributes that
 are called traits. A trait is a type definition that can be used for
 normal Python object attributes, giving the attributes some
 additional characteristics:
  * Initialization: A trait attribute can have a default value
  * Validation: A trait attribute is manifestly typed.
  * Delegation: The value of a trait attribute can be contained in
another object
  * Notification: Setting the value of a trait attribute can fired
callbacks
  * Visualization: With the TraitsUI package, GUIs can be generated
automatically from traited objects.

Description: Simulate different times without changing your system clock
Use this module to achieve the effect of changing your system clock,
but without actually changing your system clock. It overrides the Perl
builtin subs time, localtime, and gmtime, causing them to return a
"faked" time of your choice. From the script's point of view, time still
flows at the normal rate, but it is just offset as if it were executing
in the past or present.

Best wishes

  Description : A scientific visualization package for 2-D and 3-D data

 MayaVi2 is a cross-platform tool for 2-D and 3-D scientific data
 visualization.  Its features include:
   * Visualization of scalar, vector and tensor data in 2 and 3 dimensions
   * Easy scriptability using Python
   * Easy extendability via custom sources, modules, and data filters
   * Reading several file formats: VTK (legacy and XML), PLOT3D, etc.
   * Saving of visualizations
   * Saving rendered visualization in a variety of image formats.
 .
 MayaVi2 has been designed with scriptability and extensibility in mind. While
 the mayavi2 application is usable by itself, it may be used as an Envisage
 plugin which allows it to be embedded in user applications natively.
 Alternatively, it may be used as a visualization engine for any application.
 .
 This debian package actually bundles several useful packages from the Enhought
 Tool Suite -- tvtk (traited VTK), Envisage and various handy envisage plugins
 used by the default mayavi application.

  Description : Czech manual pages

Linux manual pages translated into Czech.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-pack-cs/+bug/130377
includes a request for a package of Czech manual pages. I don't speak
Czech so I wouldn't be very good at maintaining this. Perhaps a
Czech-speaking developer could do so?

Thanks,

Data::Password checks potential passwords for crackability. It checks

Description: Linux::usermod - modify user and group accounts
 This module adds, removes and modify user and group accounts
 according to the passwd and shadow files syntax (like struct
 passwd from pwd.h). It is not necessary those accounts to be
 system as long as $Linux::usermod::file_passwd,
 $Linux::usermod::file_shadow, $Linux::usermod::file_group,
 $Linux::usermod::file_gshadow are not in "/etc" directory.

Thanks

Best wishes

  Description : high-performance event loop library modelled after libevent

 libev provides a full-featured and high-performance event loop that is
 loosely modelled after libevent. It includes relative timers, absolute
 timers with customized rescheduling, synchronous signals, process status
 change events, event watchers dealing with the event loop itself, file
 watchers, and even limited support for fork events. It uses a priority
 queue to manage timers and uses arrays as fundamental data structure. It
 has no artificial limitations on the number of watchers waiting for the
 same event.
 .
 libev supports select, poll, epoll, kqueue, and inotify.

This package provides an interface for reading and interpreting the
content of JPEG segments, in particular of those segments containing
metadata (like TIFF headers, thumbnails, Exif info, IPTC info, comments,
etc.). Some segments can even be modified and rewritten to disk.

This is being packaged as a dependency of Mapivi which I will be ITPing
shortly.

Description:

Class::InsideOut is a simple, safe and streamlined toolkit for building
inside-out objects. Unlike most other inside-out object building modules
already on CPAN, this module aims for minimalism and robustness:

  * Does not require derived classes to subclass it
  * Uses no source filters, attributes or CHECK blocks
  * Supports any underlying object type including black-box inheritance
  * Does not leak memory on object destruction
  * Overloading-safe
  * Thread-safe for Perl 5.8.5 or better
  * mod_perl compatible
  * Makes no assumption about inheritance or initializer needs

It provides the minimal support necessary for creating safe inside-out
objects and generating flexible accessors.

  Description : A library that emulates SGI's GL routines under X11

 Ygl is an X11 library that emulates the 2D routines of SGI's GL
 (sometimes called IRIS GL). Please note that GL is different from
 OpenGL. Ygl is very simple to use, and very fast. The 2D routines
 are built around the standard X11 libraries and reported to be faster
 than GL itself. This release will also work with FORTRAN code and has been
 built with 3D support. The library therefore requires the use of the OpenGL
 libraries.

 The package is in good shape, thanks to the work done by Prabhu Ramachandran.

Hello,

I'm packaging vinagre (based on the Ubuntu package) in the pkg-gnome team. The
package is already available in pkg-gnome's svn and waiting for sponsorship.

Cheers,
Emilio

Bug#460455: ITP: topshelf - current files applet for gnome

2008-01-12 Thread Siegfried-Angel
Package: wnpp
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: origin-ubuntu hardy ubuntu-patch

Website: https://launchpad.net/topshelf/
License: GPL

"TopShelf aims to be a simple GNOME applet which provides the
functionality of the top shelf in one's desk: a place to store the
files the user is currently working on (not right now, but in general,
in a period of time). Unlike a real shelf, however, TopShelf just
links to the files; it doesn't contain them.

The concept of TopShelf is to contain files that are put there by the
user, as opposed to the 'recent files list' which is automatically
managed. For example, the top shelf might contain a story the user is
currently writing; a project for school or for work, a diary, etc. On
the other hand, music and video files would typically not be in the
top shelf (since they cycle very fast), but they would appear in the
recent files list."

Yes, it was just a spur file.

Moreover, a new upstream version (0.0.4) is available. I'll package that ASAP.
By the way, it seems like [EMAIL PROTECTED] is interested in sponsoring the
package,
thanks for the interest anyway! ;)

Kindly,
David

Bug#460493: ITP: libfprint -- fingerprint library of fprint project

2008-01-12 Thread Emfox Zhou
Package: wnpp
Owner: Emfox Zhou <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libfprint
  Version : 0.0.5
  Upstream Author :
* URL or Web page : http://reactivated.net/fprint/wiki/Libfprint
* License : LGPL 2.1
  Description : fingerprint library of fprint project

The fprint project aims to plug a gap in the Linux desktop: support for consumer
fingerprint reader devices.

Previously, Linux support for such devices has been scattered amongst different
projects (many incomplete) and inconsistent in that application developers would
have to implement support for each type of fingerprint reader separately. For
more information on where we came from, see the project history page.

We're trying to change that by providing a central system to support all the
fingerprint readers we can get our hands on. The software is open source and in
the long term we're shooting for adoption by distributions, integration into
common desktop environments, etc.
