O.k. - I was actually interested in the managing part.

I don't think upstream will abandon this anytiime soon, it's still in
the current RHES 5.1 documentation if I remember correctly.
Unfortunately conga needs quiet some adjustments for non redhat systems.
Would you be interested in working on this?

That's fine with me.

Bug#453680: ITP: djbdns -- Replacement for BIND, written by Dan Bernstein

Please provide the source documenting this copyrite/license change. I
took a look at DJB's site and found no indication of this change, nor
has there been any discussion/announcement on the [EMAIL PROTECTED]
mailing list. DJB has been very clear for years about the software
being public domain, but that redistribution of binaries is a completely
different matter [0]

In the last 6-9 months of multiple direct emails, bug reports, etc., I
have received a single reply from Adam without any follow-up to
subsequent messages. I had intended to work on an eventual sponsored
NMU, and would be quite happy to help a fix up djbdns-installer. I
asked around on #d-mentors, sent a detailed email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
on 08/20/2007, and basically got a casual OK to hijack the package. If
you want to hijack djbdns-installer, I would be grateful to have a full
DD as maintainer, so I can help out without asking for random
sponsorship. ;)

Ah, I see - excellent.

> code becomes DFSG compatible?

None - you are absolutely correct. I would then like to formally
request that the following current patches in BTS for djbdns-installer
be included (or at least seriously considered) in the djbdns package, if
the binary redistribution stars align:

#107578: djbdns-installer: IPv6 record types not supported (Merged with
#107579)
#243323: extra file in package (djbdns-conf-fhs)
#274000: djbdns-installer: typo in description of tinydns
#432900: Please add one-second.patch for performance
#432903: Please add native SRV type to tinydns-data / axfr-get
#432471: Truncation of alias chains by tinydns and axfrdns
#447950: Advisory - L.ROOT-SERVERS.NET changing to 199.7.83.42 on
2007-11-01 (includes #432459: B.ROOT-SERVERS.NET IP address changed)

A couple of these are minor/cosmetic (typo and djbdns-conf-fhs), the
root servers are necessary, but IPv6, one-second, SRV, and the alias
chain patch are highly important in our environment.

My real desire is to have all the proper bits in place in the Debian
package (binary or -installer) for our production authoritative server
infrastructure, without the need to roll our own custom .deb's anymore.
If Lenny releases to stable with all the right stuff, then I will be a
happy user.

Thanks for the vid link, Robert - I just saw your post to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and your link was not posted in BTS as of my reading.

Do let me know if you need any help as you go along - we run a very
large tinydns system at work.

Bug#453732: ITP: usb-modeswitch -- mode switching tool for controlling "flip flop" (multiple device) USB gear

2007-11-30 Thread Aurélien GÉRÔME
I was told that the upstream description (which I pasted untouched)
was not much descriptive and objective. I tend to agree, so I am
writing a new one...

* Package name: usb-modeswitch
  Version : 0.9.2
  Upstream Author : Josua Dietze <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/
  Licence : GPLv2 or later
  Programming Lang: C
Description : mode switching tool for controlling "flip flop" USB devices

Several new USB devices have their proprietary Windows drivers onboard,
especially WAN dongles. When plugged in for the first time, they act
like a flash storage and start installing the driver from there. If
the driver is already installed, the storage device vanishes and
a new device, such as an USB modem, shows up. This is called the
"ZeroCD" feature.

On Debian, this is not needed, since the driver is included as a
Linux kernel module, such as "usbserial". However, the device still
shows up as "usb-storage" by default. usb-modeswitch solves that
issue by sending the command which actually performs the switching
of the device from "usb-storage" to "usbserial".

Cheers,

This tool shows a borderless GTK window with various buttons in

By default, the window will pop up in the top right corner of the
screen; if you'd prefer it to pop up under the mouse pointer, then
invoke gselt as "gselt -m".

gselt watches the X selection and displays a menu of actions that can
be done with the text that is currently selected. Actions are
configurable and specify regular expressions to match against the

Description: A lexical analyzer generator for Tcl
tcLex is a lexer (lexical analyzer) generator extension to Tcl. It is
inspired by Unix and GNU lex and flex, which are "tools for
generating programs that perform pattern-matching on text". tcLex is
very similar to these programs, except it uses Tcl philosophy and
syntax, whereas the others use their own syntax and are used in
conjunction with the C language. People used to lex or flex should
then feel familiar with tcLex. tcLex is a small extension (the
Windows compiled version is about 20kb, and the source is about
150kb), because it extensively uses the Tcl library. However, the
current doesn't use Tcl's regexp code anymore but a patched version
is now included in tcLex, which makes it slightly bigger (by a few
KB). tcLex should work with Tcl 8.0 and later. tcLex will NEVER work
with earlier versions, because it uses Tcl 8.0's "object" system for
performance. The most interesting features are:
 .
  * cross-platform support, thanks to Tcl. Though it has been
developed on Windows and tested on Windows and Unix only, it
should work on other platforms as long as Tcl exists on these
platforms. Supported Tcl platforms are Windows 95/NT, Unix (Linux,
Solaris...) and Macintosh. Other platforms are VMS, OS/2,
NeXTStep, Amiga...
 .
  * unlike lex and flex, which only generate static lexers written in
C and intended to be compiled, tcLex dynamically generates Tcl
commands that can be used like other C commands or Tcl procedures
from within Tcl scripts or C programs.
 .
  * it uses Tcl regular expressions. That means you don't have to
learn another regexp language.
 .
  * it works with Tcl namespaces
 .
  * the generated lexer commands can be used in one pass or
incrementally, because they maintain state information. That way,
several instances of the same lexer (eg a HTML parser) can run at
the same time in distinct call frames and maintain distinct states
(local variables...). Lexer need not be specially designed in
order to be used incrementally, the same lexer can transparently
be used in one pass or incrementally. This feature is especially
useful when processing text from a file or an Internet socket (Web
pages for example), when data is not necessarily available at the
beginning of the processing.

Perhaps you could have talked to Adam before filling an ITP?
You could even arrange some sort of co-maintainance, if you already have
some work done.

And just for the record, to back your claims, as of now Qmail's page[0]

Bug#453445: ITP: isoquery -- Search for various ISO codes (country, language, ...)

2007-11-30 Thread Tobias Toedter
On Thu, 29 Nov 2007 11:56:36 -0600
Ron Johnson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

> Would it be simpler to just add this program to the iso-codes package?

Hi Ron,

we've discussed this in the iso-codes packaging group and decided to
create a separate package. The main reasons are that isoquery can be
uploaded independently from iso-codes and that iso-codes currently is an

Bug#453657: O: mines.app -- Minesweeper for GNUstep

2007-11-30 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

There's no more updates for mines.app and I've switched to playing
sauerbraten and nethack, therefore, I orphan this package now.

Maintaining a package requires time and skills. Please only adopt this
package if you are *sure* you will have enough time and attention to
work on it.

If you want to be the new maintainer, please see
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for detailed
instructions how to adopt a package properly.

  Description : Hibernate Validator

Hibernate Validator aims at defining and checking a domain model
level constraints. It supports custom constraints definitions as well
as full internationalization. Annotations are used to define
constraints on object level. The validation mechanism can be executed
in different layers in your application without having to duplicate
any of these rules (presentation layer, data access layer, Database
 schema).
 .
Hibernate Validator integrates with Hibernate by applying the
constraints on the database schema (DDL generation) and by checking
entity validity before Hibernate inserts or updates instances. You
can use Hibernate Validator with any Java Persistence provider, not
only Hibernate, although you will not be able to use automatic DDL
alteration for constraint generation outside of Hibernate
 EntityManager.

Hibernate EntityManager implements the programming interfaces and
lifecycle rules as defined by the EJB3 persistence specification.
Together with Hibernate Annotations this wrapper implements a
complete (and standalone) EJB3 persistence solution on top of the
mature Hibernate core. You may use a combination of all three
together, annotations without EJB3 programming interfaces and
lifecycle, or even pure native Hibernate, depending on the business
and technical needs of your project. You can at all times fall back
to Hibernate native APIs, or if required, even to native JDBC and
 SQL.
 .
 It includes:
  * The standard Java Persistence management API
  * The standard Java Persistence Query Language
  * The standard Java Persistence object lifecycle rules
  * The standard Java Persistence configuration and packaging

Sorry if this is a repeat--I think my previous submission got interrupted.

I noticed that the openoffice.org-hyphenation-en-us package is not present in
releases after Sarge. Consequently, hyphenation doesn't work in the default
Debian installation of OpenOffice2 in Sid. Is it planned to include this file
in the future? Although I have seen that the "Install new dictionaries..."
wizard in OpenOffice does provide a workaround to this problem, it
still seems that hyphenation should be available without extra work
in the default installation.

I noticed that a side effect of this ommision is that hyphenation doesn't work
in the most recent release of Ubuntu. Further more, presumably because the
version of OpenOffice 2 in Ubuntu is slightly older, the "Install new
dictionaries..." wizard doesn't work either. No move to Ubuntu for me.

Thanks for all the work you do on these packages--it is appreciated.

Bug#453680: ITP: djbdns -- Replacement for BIND, written by Dan Bernstein

2007-11-30 Thread Robert Edmonds
Package: wnpp
Owner: "Robert S. Edmonds" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: djbdns
  Version : 1.05
Upstream Author : Daniel J. Bernstein
* URL : http://cr.yp.to/djbdns.html
* License : public domain
  Programming Lang: C
Description : Replacement for BIND, written by Dan Bernstein
The following were taken from various HTML pages under
 http://cr.yp.to/djbdns.html
 .
dnscache is a local DNS cache. It accepts recursive DNS queries from
local clients such as web browsers and mail transfer agents. It
collects responses from remote DNS servers. It caches the responses to
 save time later.
 .
tinydns is a DNS server. It accepts iterative DNS queries from hosts
around the Internet, and responds with locally configured information.
 .
pickdns is a load-balancing DNS server. It accepts iterative DNS
queries from hosts around the Internet, and responds with a dynamic
selection of locally configured IP addresses with 5-second TTLs.
 .
walldns is a reverse DNS wall. It accepts iterative DNS queries for
in-addr.arpa domains from hosts around the Internet, and supplies
generic responses that avoid revealing local host information.
 .
rbldns is an IP-address-listing DNS server. It accepts iterative
DNS queries from hosts around the Internet asking about various IP
addresses. It provides responses showing whether the addresses are on
a locally configured list, such as RBL or DUL.
 .
axfrdns is a DNS zone-transfer server. It reads a zone-transfer
request in DNS-over-TCP format from its standard input, and responds
 with locally configured information.
 .
The security of this software is guaranteed by the author. Details of
the guarantee can be found at http://cr.yp.to/djbdns/guarantee.html

(snagged from the djbdns-installer djbdns description)

Supposedly DJB has released all of his code into the public domain. If
this is really the case and passes DFSG, I plan to package djbdns
assuming Adam McKenna (maintainer of djbdns-installer) doesn't want to.

if it dies. Setting up a new service is easy: all supervise needs is a
directory with a run script that runs the service.
 .
multilog saves error messages to one or more logs. It optionally timestamps
each line and, for each log, includes or excludes lines matching specified
patterns. It automatically rotates logs to limit the amount of disk space used.
If the disk fills up, it pauses and tries again, without losing any data.
 .
svscan starts one supervise process for each subdirectory of the current
directory, up to a limit of 1000 subdirectories. svscan skips subdirectory
names starting with dots. supervise must be in svscan's path.
 .
If a subdirectory sub is sticky, svscan starts a pair of supervise processes,
one for sub, one for sub/log, with a pipe between them. svscan needs two free
 descriptors for each pipe.

 (description again snagged from daemontools-installer)

Adam, if you want this ITP, you can take it.

See the video clip on google video, which is dated yesterday. He says
the pages on his site will be updated soon. (Obviously I won't upload
packages until the license change really does occur.)

What would be the point of *-installer packages for djb software if the
code becomes DFSG compatible?

Bug#453732: ITP: usb-modeswitch -- mode switching tool for controlling "flip flop" (multiple device) USB gear

2007-11-30 Thread Aurélien GÉRÔME
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Aurélien GÉRÔME <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: usb-modeswitch
  Version : 0.9.2
  Upstream Author : Josua Dietze <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/
  Licence : GPLv2 or later
  Programming Lang: C
Description : mode switching tool for controlling "flip flop" (multiple
device) USB gear

Several new USB devices (especially high-speed WAN stuff, they're
expensive anyway) have their MS Windows drivers onboard; when
plugged in for the first time they act like a flash storage and start
installing the driver from there. After that (and on every consecutive
plugging) this driver switches the mode internally, the storage device
vanishes (in most cases), and a new device (like an USB modem) shows
up. Some call that feature "ZeroCD".

Of course, nothing of this is documented in any form and there is
hardly any Linux driver available. On the good side, most of the known
devices work out of the box with the available Linux modules like
"usb-storage" or "usbserial". That leaves the problem of the mode
switching from storage to whatever the thing is supposed to do.

Fortunately there are things like human intelligence, USB sniffing
programs and "libusb". It is possible to eavesdrop the communication
of the MS Windows driver, to isolate the command or action that does
the switching, and to reproduce the same thing with Linux.

USB_ModeSwitch makes the last step relatively easy by taking the
important parameters from a configuration file and doing all the
initialization and communication stuff.

It does NOT check for success afterwards as of now. The right approach
would be to consult /proc/bus/usb/devices (or the output of "lsusb")
before and after execution to note any changes.

Cheers,

Bug#453737: O: libhnj -- hyphenation and justification library

2007-11-30 Thread Rene Engelhard

I intend to orphan the libhnj package.

Description: hyphenation and justification library
Libhnj is a high quality hyphenation and justification library based on the
TeX hyphenation algorithm. The TeX hyphenation patterns could be used after
 a preprocessing step.
 .
This package contains the runtime libraries.
Tag: role::shared-lib, use::typesetting, works-with::text,
works-with-format::tex

This is libhj + a patch producing ALTLinuxhyph, which OOo uses.
ALTLinuxhyph now is available standalone, though (in hyphen, which just
entered sid). I don't have any interest in libaltlinuxhyph-dev anymore
(and not on libhn either, which just was a by-product for packaging
libaltlinuxhyph since I thought "why not ship it if it's there anyway
because libaltlinuxhyph-dev is a patch to it"?)

Anyway, if noone wants it (there's no redepends of libhnj0 in the
archive) I'll request it's removal from unstable...

Regards,

Rene

Bug#453751: O: dd2 -- Little shoot-'em-up arcade game for one or two players

2007-11-30 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

The current maintainer of this, me, doesn't play this anymore.
Therefore, I orphan this package now.

Maintaining a package requires time and skills. Please only adopt this
package if you are *sure* you will have enough time and attention to
work on it.

If you want to be the new maintainer, please see
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for detailed
instructions how to adopt a package properly.
