Bug#387703: piklab debian package

2007-08-23 Thread Jan Wagemakers
Hello,

Today, I wanted to update my experimental piklab debian package¹. However,
in the latest tar.bz2, I see that there is now a debian-directory. Here I
can see that "Stefan von Halenbach" has worked on creating a debian package
for piklab.

This is great news, because I don't consider myself the best person for this
job (I'm not a KDE-user, but find "piklab-prog" very interesting).

To avoid duplicate work, can you explain to bugreport 387703¹ what the
plans are about debian and piklab. If Stefan wants to maintain piklab for
Debian, then the RFP (Request For Packaging) can be renamed to ITP (Intend
To Package).

Bug#387703: piklab debian package

2007-08-23 Thread Nicolas Hadacek
I'm not completely sure what is the status of the debian packager for
piklab. Stefan used to do it. Then Tom Schouten volonteered to do it
and he made updated packages for piklab 0.14.2

Since then there are no new debian packages for the newer version of
piklab. I am not sure if they are too busy or if they dropped the ball
(or if I should tell them when I make a new release ?). I am sending
copies of this email to them so they can answer these questions.

Also note that Stefan and Tom are both rookies at making debian
packages. It would probably be best if some more knowledgeable person
could at least help them.

Regards,
Nicolas

It is pretty dumb to do so without issuing a warning first. I have
already had a dialogue with another maintainer (and his sponsor) about
him taking over the packaging og motion. A new upload which will
reflect the change in maintainer + a new upstream release + possible
other fixes is being prepared as we speak.

Description: V4L capture program supporting motion detection
Motion is a program that monitors the video signal from
one or more cameras and is able to detect if a significant
part of the picture has changed. Or in other words, it can
 detect motion.
 .
Motion is a command line based tool. It has no graphical
user interface. Everything is setup either via the
command line or via configuration files.
 .
The output from motion can be:
- jpg files
- ppm format files
- mpeg video sequences
 .
Also, motion has its own minimalistic web server. Thus,
you can access the webcam output from motion via a browser.

Well general testing is always welcome. Maybe also checking, if there are
newer upstream releases and then also packaging them and testing :)
Thanks very much for your offer and efforts.

Bug#439228: ITP: minirok -- a small music player written in Python and inspired by Amarok

2007-08-23 Thread Adeodato Simó
Package: wnpp

* Package name: minirok
  Version : 0.5
  Upstream Author : Adeodato Simó <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://chistera.yi.org/~adeodato/code/minirok
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python (with PyKDE)
Description : a small music player written in Python and inspired by
Amarok

Minirok is a small music player written in Python for the K Desktop
Environment. As its name hints, it's modelled after Amarok, but with a
reduced set of features. In particular, it is designed to cover all the
needs and wishes of the author, leaving everything else out. The look
and feel is almost identical to Amarok's, though.

The main interface is a *tree view of the filesystem*, with a playlist
that can only be populated via drag and drop. There is no collection
built from tags, so it's targeted at people whose collection is
structured in a tree already at the filesystem level. Searches can be
performed both in the tree view and the playlist.

  Other features include:

   * DCOP interface for controlling the player and retrieving the
 currently played track

   * alter the playing order in the playlist by queueing tracks;
stop after a certain track; undo and redo

   * reading of tags when adding to the playlist can be disabled by
specifying a regular expression to extract them from the filename

   * submission of played songs to Last.fm (with lastfmsubmitd)

   * support for the classic Amarok "funky-monkey" theme

   * global keybindings (see README.Usage for details)

Minirok is written using the PyKDE bindings and the GStreamer media
  framework.

A preliminary package can be found at:

Hi ! I would love to see Piklab integrated into the debian or ubuntu file
distribution system, but as Nicolas already said, i don't think that i am the
right person to do it. I am no developer and there are outstanding bugs with
the packaging of piklab, which i am unable to resolve.
Lintian nags about use of "rpath" and the manpages (which are already written)
need to be integrated into the debian rules( if it is not done yet?).

W: piklab:
binary-or-shlib-defines-rpath ./usr/bin/piklab-hex /usr/lib:/usr/share/qt3/lib
W: piklab:
binary-or-shlib-defines-rpath ./usr/bin/piklab-prog /usr/lib:/usr/share/qt3/lib
W: piklab:
binary-or-shlib-defines-rpath ./usr/bin/piklab /usr/lib:/usr/share/qt3/lib

Also the Kde-documentation gets installed into the wrong directory and i can't
find a solution to solve it.

I made the debianising with piklab to get the ball rolling, and it worked so
far and i talked with the upstream maintainer (Nicolas) about another
packager for debian a while ago. Short after that Tom seemed to want to get
this job.

That was fine with me, because i did update my system to Feisty Fawn in the
meantime, which had the newest packages (and hightest dependencys) at that
time. If Tom don't want to maintain the debian package i would suggest to ask
Aurelion Jarno, who is responsible for gputils at debian.

Greetings
Stefan

I intend to orphan the pv package.

The package description is:
pv (Pipe Viewer) can be inserted into any normal pipeline between two processes
to give a visual indication of how quickly data is passing through, how long it
has taken, how near to completion it is, and an estimate of how long it will be
 until completion.
 .
To use it, insert it in a pipeline between two processes, with the appropriate
options. Its standard input will be passed through to its standard output and
progress will be shown on standard error.

Description : Perl module for handling numeric aspects of scalars

This module is about the numeric part of plain (string) Perl scalars.
A scalar has a numeric value, which may be expressed in either the
native integer type or the native floating point type. Many values
are expressible both ways, in which case the exact representation is
insignificant. To fully understand Perl arithmetic it is necessary to
know about both of these representations, and the differing behaviours
of numbers according to which way they are expressible.
 .
This module provides functions to extract the numeric part of a scalar,
classify a number by expressibility, and compare numbers across
 representations.

This module is about the native integer numerical data type. A native
integer is one of the types of datum that can appear in the numeric part
of a Perl scalar. This module supplies constants describing the native
 integer type.
 .
There are actually two native integer representations: signed and
unsigned. Both are handled by this module.

libnet-ssh-perl is Net::SSH, which is a wrapper to ssh(1),
however Net::SSH::Perl is a much more rcih API with much more
power to utilize the SSH protocol within perl scripts - and it
doesn't depend on the ssh(1) binary.

I guess that package would be called libnet-ssh-perl-perl, heh.

Anyway, this isn't really a "bug" on this package, but I didn't
know where else to put it, but I'd really like this perl module
packaged. Thanks.

* URL:
http://search.cpan.org/~dbrobins/Net-SSH-Perl-1.30/http://search.cpan.org/%7Edbrobins/Net-SSH-Perl-1.30/>
* License   : Artistic
  Programming Lang : Perl
Description : Perl interface to the libssh2 library

Net::SSH::Perl is an all-Perl module implementing an SSH (Secure Shell)
client. It is compatible with both the SSH-1 and SSH-2 protocols.

Net::SSH::Perl enables you to simply and securely execute commands on remote
machines, and receive the STDOUT, STDERR, and exit status of that remote
command. It contains built-in support for various methods of authenticating
with the server (password authentication, RSA challenge-response
authentication, etc.). It completely implements the I/O buffering, packet
transport, and user authentication layers of the SSH protocol, and makes use
of external Perl libraries (in the Crypt:: family of modules) to handle
encryption of all data sent across the insecure network. It can also read
your existing SSH configuration files (/etc/ssh_config, etc.), RSA identity
files, DSA identity files, known hosts files, etc.

One advantage to using Net::SSH::Perl over wrapper-style implementations of
ssh clients is that it saves on process overhead: you no longer need to fork
and execute a separate process in order to connect to an sshd. Depending on
the amount of time and memory needed to fork a process, this win can be
quite substantial; particularly if you're running in a persistent Perl
environment (mod_perl, for example), where forking a new process is a drain
on process and memory resources.

It also simplifies the process of using password-based authentications; when
writing a wrapper around ssh you probably need to use Expect to control the
ssh client and give it your password. Net::SSH::Perl has built-in support
for the authentication protocols, so there's no longer any hassle of
communicating with any external processes.

The SSH2 protocol support (present in Net::SSH::Perl as of version 1.00) is
compatible with the SSH2 implementation in OpenSSH, and should also be fully
compatible with the "official" SSH implementation. If you find an SSH2
implementation that is not compatible with Net::SSH::Perl, please let me
know (email address down in AUTHOR & COPYRIGHTS); it turns out that some
SSH2 implementations have subtle differences from others. 3DES (3des-cbc),
Blowfish (blowfish-cbc), and RC4 (arcfour) ciphers are currently supported
for SSH2 encryption, and integrity checking is performed by either the
hmac-sha1 or hmac-md5 algorithms. Compression, if requested, is limited to
Zlib. Supported server host key algorithms are ssh-dss (the default) and
ssh-rsa (requires Crypt::RSA); supported SSH2 public key authentication
algorithms are the same.

Description: A real-time visual space simulation (KDE frontend)
Celestia is a real-time visual simulation of space. Choose a point
within the Local Group of galaxies, and Celestia will show you an
approximation of how it would appear to your eyes were you actually
there. Some of what Celestia shows is necessarily hypothetical--the
farther away from Earth you get, the less real data there is and the
more guesswork is involved. Thus Celestia supplements observational
data with good guesses based on models of stellar and planetary
 processes.
 .
Celestia is unique in its ability to allow you to navigate at an
immense range of scales. Orbit a couple kilometers above the surface
of a tiny, irregular asteroid, then head off towards Jupiter, watching
it grow from a bright point of light into a looming sphere filling your
field of vision. Leave our solar system entirely and observe the sun
as it fades from a brilliant disk to a bright star, disappearing almost
entirely as you head off toward the Upsilon Andromeda system to orbit
 around its innermost giant planet.
