Bug#424961: ITP: libtomcrypt -- An easy-to-use cryptography library

2007-05-18 Thread Pau Garcia i Quiles

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

LibTomCrypt is a fairly comprehensive, modular and portable
cryptographic toolkit that provides developers with a vast array of
well known published block ciphers, one-way hash functions, chaining
modes, pseudo-random number generators, public key cryptography and a
plethora of other routines.

LibTomCrypt has been designed from the ground up to be very simple to
use. It has a modular and standard API that allows new ciphers, hashes
and PRNGs to be added or removed without change to the overall end
application. It features easy to use functions and a complete user
manual which has many source snippet examples.

I have already packaged it for Ubuntu (Launchpad bug #115240)

Description : framework for developing visual-novel type games

Ren'Py is a programming language and runtime, intended to ease the creation
of visual-novel type games. It contains features that make it easy to
display thoughts, dialogue, and menus; to display images to the user; to
write game logic; and to support the saving and loading of games.

Ren'Py tries to be like an executable script, allowing you to get a working
game without much more effort than is required to type the game script into
the computer.

Ren'Py is implemented on top of python, and that python heritage shows
through in many places. Many Ren'Py statements allow python expressions
to be used, and there are also Ren'Py statements that allow for the
execution of arbitrary python code. Many of the less-used features of
Ren'Py are exposed to the user by way of python. By only requiring use of
the simplest features of python, it's hoped that Ren'Py will be usable by
all game authors.

Bug#421513: License-Question (expanded GPL)

2007-05-18 Thread Cord Beermann
Hi.

I want to add a package to Debian with the following
License-Statement:

The Simple PHP Blog is released under the GNU Public License.

You are free to use and modify the Simple PHP Blog. All changes
must be uploaded to SourceForge.net under Simple PHP Blog.

Credit must be give to the original author and the Simple PHP Blog
logo graphic must appear on the site and link to the project
on SourceForge.net

Does this make the package incompatible to DFSG?

Using the data in these files, drawmap can produce various
kinds of customized maps, including shaded relief maps
(with or without roads, streams, place names, and so on)
and topographic maps (again, with or without additional
 features).
 .
Outputs sun raster format, portable gray map, or pov format
 files.

While I think this is a pretty cool program, why should we
ship win32 programs in Debian packages? I mean if I install
it I can't do anything with it on my Debian box.

Bug#425039: ITP: libint -- Evaluate the integrals in modern atomic and molecular theory

Description : Evaluate the integrals in modern atomic and molecular theory

Libint library is used to evaluate the traditional (electron repulsion)
and certain novel two-body matrix elements (integrals) over Cartesian
Gaussian functions used in modern atomic and molecular theory. The idea
of the library is to let computer write optimized code for computing
such integrals. There are two primary advantages to this: much less
human effort is required to write code for computing new integrals, and
code can be optimized specifically for a particular computer
architecture (e.g., vector processor).

Libint has been utilized to implement methods such as Hartree-Fock (HF)
and Kohn-Sham density functional theory (KS DFT), second-order
Moller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2), coupled cluster singles and
doubles (CCSD) method, as well as explicitly correlated R12 methods.
The following software packages use Libint:

Improves mpqc (#409025) and psi3.

  Description : Debian-Installer loader for win32

This package provides a win32 program that can be used as a loader for
Debian Installer, acting as a more user-friendly boot mechanism than
traditional BIOS-based boot.

It can act as a standalone netboot loader (for a practical example, see
http://goodbye-microsoft.com/), or as a cdrom/usb-disk add-on that starts
a media-based install.

Do you plan to package it as a deb, or as a BYHAND tarball? The latter
would be most useful, so that the exe file is available unpacked on the
mirrors.

for the same reasons we have syslinux, memtest etc. as debian packages:
to easy integrate them into installation medias (and have bts/pts pages).

Because d-i can build-depend on it to generate win32-boot capable CDs, similarly
to how it's done with syslinux.

There have never been any non-free bits :-)

There was an issue with some NSIS code whose copyright wasn't clarified, that
got resolved (there was a mail from you in debian-boot about this, can't find
it now).

Then there are three components that will be included in the source package and
not automaticaly built from source. All them will be eventualy sorted out, but
for now it means the package will be in contrib. I summarise them here:

  - System.dll (from NSIS) can't be built without using propietary software
(see bug #31). My package takes the binary from official NSIS .zip.

  - wget.exe can't be built from unmodified wget sources, and given that it's
only needed temporarily untill we solve #412285, I didn't want to bother
its maintainer about adding cruft to build it.

  - grub4dos is not in debian. Since I grub4dos is based on GRUB Legacy,
which is deprecated, I don't want to add a new package for something that
ought to disappear anyway. I expect that GRUB 2 will meet the requisites
so that the unmodified upstream version can be used instead.

It's a deb now, but I can switch it if that's more convenient. I'm not
familiar with BYHAND, isn't it a nuissance for ftp-masters? Also, can you
give an example of BYHAND package so that I can have a look and see how it
works?

Hmm, I'm unsure if binary software will be let in contrib. Since it does
have source code, just FTBFS, this is something of a grey area.

debian-installer is currently one of (the only?) byhand package. See the
dpkg-distaddfile call in its rules file.

Yes, it's a nuisance to you/ftp-masters, since they have to manually
install the byhand component. And for some reason, though it seems
easy to automate on a case-by-case basis to me, that's just never
happened.

Once it gets out of contrib, it might be worth considering making d-i
build-depend on it, and just include the exe in its own byhand tarball,
this would perhaps be simpler, though it would mean more coordination
between d-i and win32-loader.

I think it fits in Policy 2.2.2:

"Examples of packages which would be included in contrib are:

* free packages which require contrib, non-free packages or packages which
are not in our archive at all for compilation or execution, and
[...]"

MSVC is one of these packages which "are not in our archive at all".
