Bug#409627: ITP: vim-addon-manager -- command line manager of Vim addons

2007-02-04 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Stefano Zacchiroli <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: vim-addon-manager
  Version : 0.1
  Upstream Author : Stefano Zacchiroli <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL :
svn://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-vim/trunk/packages/vim-addon-manager
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Ruby
  Description : command line manager of Vim addons

  vim-addon-manager is a tool for managing addons for the Vim
  editor.
  .
  Using the vim-addons command line the user can list the addons
  installed on its system (i.e. which are registered in the vim addons
  registry) and install or uninstall each of them in its per-user
  configuration directory (~/.vim).
  .
  Override of addons which are enabled per default on the system, so
  that they are not enabled for the current user, is possible too.

Draft packages are available at http://people.debian.org/~zack/vim/.
Comments are welcome, especially on both the descriptions above and my
ruby-related choices, since I'm not familiar with any ruby specific
packaging issues.

Cheers.

Apart from the fact that ThinkFinger isn't my project, I haven't see
your mail yet on the mailing-list. Are you subscribed to the list or
are you waiting for moderator's approval?

BTW, a small advice for your next package: as soon as you realize that
you want to package something, please file an ITP, thus other people
interested in the package can check the WNPP page before [1] ;-)

I'm not a Debian developer yet [2], so I need a sponsor, too.

Now, either we maintain it as a team or I could step back :-D

Bug#409711: RFP: VirtualBox -- a GPL virtual machine software with full virtualization support

2007-02-04 Thread Laurentiu Pancescu
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: VirtualBox
  Version : 1.3.2

  Description : This is a virtual machine envinronment, similar to VMware,

(Include the long description here.)
VirtualBox OSE (Open Source Edition) is a virtual machine with speed comparable
with VMware, and supports full virtualization even on older processors without
VT-x support. Unlike QEMU's proprietary kqemu, VirtualBox has open-source
virtualization. It also has a nice Qt interface for managing the virtual
machines. This seems to be the only DFSG-free virtualization package that works
on processors without VT, unlike LKVM (but it also works on processors with VT).

Bug#409740: ITP: python-guppy -- object and heap memory sizing, profiling and analysis in Python

2007-02-04 Thread Yaroslav Halchenko
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Yaroslav Halchenko <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: python-guppy
  Version : 0.1.6
  Upstream Author : Sverker Nilsson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://guppy-pe.sourceforge.net
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python, C
  Description : object and heap memory sizing, profiling and analysis in
Python
 Guppy-PE is a programming environment providing object and heap
 memory sizing, profiling and analysis. It includes a prototypical
 specification language that can be used to formally specify aspects of
 Python programs and generate tests and documentation from a common
 source.
 Modules which constitute the environment:
  - Heapy: debugging and optimization regarding memory related issues in
Python programs
  - GSL (Guppy Specification Language): describes aspects of a system,
especially its API, in a way that can be automatically converted to
tests as well as to documents
  - Guppy: umbrella package combining Heapy and GSL with support
utilities such as the Glue module that keeps things together.

Comments:

Heapy is somewhat an alternative to pysizer (http://pysizer.8325.org),
which unfortunately wasn't developed recently. That is why I ITP guppy
in favor over pysizer at the moment.

I am still not sure what name should be. Debian python policy advises
(uses verb "should", not "must") to use python-MODULE package name for
public modules. But I am not sure if python- prefix is still worth its
use, since we have debtags now. So at the end bin package name might
simply change to guppy or guppy-pe. Any advice is welcome.

  Version : 3.25
  Upstream Author : Lincoln D. Stein <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/~lds/CGI.pm-3.25/CGI.pm
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Simple Common Gateway Interface Class

This perl library uses perl5 objects to make it easy to create Web
fill-out forms and parse their contents. This package defines CGI
objects, entities that contain the values of the current query string
and other state variables. Using a CGI object's methods, you can examine
keywords and parameters passed to your script, and create forms whose
initial values are taken from the current query (thereby preserving
state information).

The module provides shortcut functions that produce boilerplate HTML,
reducing typing and coding errors. It also provides functionality for
some of the more advanced features of CGI scripting, including support
for file uploads, cookies, cascading style sheets, server push, and frames.

Bug#409405: ITP: quadkonsole -- QuadKonsole embeds Konsole kparts in a grid layout.

2007-02-04 Thread Johannes Ranke
Thanks! I noticed that when running lintian over the package I am
preparing (my first package intended for official Debian) - the reworked
Description from my control file is now:

Description: KDE terminal application embedding Konsole kparts in a grid layout
 Compared to starting several Konsole instances next to each other
 QuadKonsole has the following advantages (according to the package
 author):
 .
  Saves memory.
  Faster startup.
  You don't need to align your konsole windows by hand.
  You have a lot more screen real estate.
  Navigation is easier, using arrow keys.
  All konsoles can be minimized/maximized at once.
  QuadKonsole occupies only one slot in the taskbar.
 .
 Some drawbacks (noted by the packager) are:
 .
  Session management is not possible.
  Execution of commands on startup is not possible.

Bug#409740: ITP: python-guppy -- object and heap memory sizing, profiling and analysis in Python

2007-02-04 Thread Yaroslav Halchenko
Preliminary version of the package (for i386 due to extensions)
can be fetched from
http://itanix.rutgers.edu/rumba/dists/sid/perspect/binary-i386/devel/python-guppy_0.1.6-1~pre1_i386.deb
and sources from
http://itanix.rutgers.edu/rumba/dists/sid/perspect/source/devel/guppy_0.1.6-1~pre1.dsc

I am thinking about splitting it into multiple packages (if possible, so
we have modules not dependent on extensions in arch all) and
also providing more of documentation

Any comments are welcome

A few people have expressed interest in adopting it, but so far, none of
them have followed through in setting themselves as Maintainer. I would
prefer to transfer the package to a new maintainer than orphan it, so if you
are prepared to adopt it, please go ahead. Perhaps you could discuss this
with Matthias Klose and Matthias Urlichs and see if they would like to
remain involved in its maintenance as well.

It has been de facto orphaned for some time, though I haven't filed a WNPP
bug because of the offers to maintain it.
