Bug#309899: ITP: libarchive -- functions for reading and writing streaming archives
package: wnpp Severity: wishlist I intent to package libarchive, a library for reading and writing archives. It seems to be quite robust and especially allows for special read functions (as I want to use it to read tar archives inside of ar archives without temporary files). To cite the manpage: The libarchive library provides a flexible interface for reading and writing streaming archive files such as tar and cpio. The library is inherently stream-oriented; readers serially iterate through the archive, writers serially add things to the archive. In particular, note that there is no built-in support for random access nor for in-place modifica- tion. When reading an archive, the library automatically detects the format and the compression. The library currently has read support for: o old-style tar o most variants of the POSIX ``ustar'' format, o the POSIX ``pax interchange'' format, o GNU-format tar archives, o POSIX octet-oriented cpio archives. The library automatically detects archives compressed with gzip(1), bzip2(1), or compress(1) and decompresses them transparently. I'm wondering, is unhtml really such a useful package to have in the archive? The package description really sounds like it's a perl-oneliner, indeed, the .deb's are 11kB in size. What is the added value of this package to Debian? Also, why can't this script/program be included in some other package that does html-processing? Or, what about lynx -dump -stdin with some extra options to drop the footnotes on links etc? It'll also reformat for certain textwidths etc, making it IMHO much more useful. --Jeroen -- Jeroen van Wolffelaar [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://jeroen.A-Eskwadraat.nl -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". And it does not strip the contents within tags. If you count this as an additional value. This program seems to be very lightweight, without a interpreter overhead. If you only need the HTML tags stripped without a pretty formatting like the output of a Lynx dump this would be for you. Bug#282283: [PATCH] dpkg: add transparency support to dselect, misc. fixes
Bernhard Fischer: > Attached patch implements support for transparent terminals in dselect. > It also contains various cosmetic fixes as well as a potential real bug > in lib/varbuf.c. Hi Bernhard. Please see [http://bugs.debian.org/282283], reported by dpkg's lead maintainer Scott James Remnant. After reading the bug log, you may wish to take over from me there. You would seem at first glance to have the motivation and the skills for it, and by contributing this patch it seems to me that you have earned the right. As to me, I have not lost interest, but my progress on # 282283 is too slow for Dpkg development to wait for me, if there is a more capable person who also has interest and who will devote more time than I will. If you do not act on this, eventually I will, but in the meantime you are not required to wait for me. > [i sent this to dpkg-devel a few weeks ago but got no reponse, so > retrying here; please keep me CC'ed, i'm not on d-d] Sorry for overlooking your earlier post to dpkg-devel. The overlook was inadvertent. (For completeness of the # 282283 BTS record to which this message is copied, it is noted here that Bernhard's patch is found at [http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg01021.html].) -- Thaddeus H.
