Description : generic whois client for perl

- From the CPAN module's description, which I'll probably shorten a bit
(I see no need for the Perl internals to appear in a package description):

The Net::XWhois class provides a generic client framework for doing Whois
 queries and parsing server response.

The class maintains an array of top level domains and whois servers
associated with them. This allows the class to transparently serve
requests for different tlds, selecting servers appropriate for the tld.
The server details are, therefore, hidden from the user and "vipul.net"
(from InterNIC), gov.ru (from RIPE) and "bit.ch" (from domreg.nic.ch) are
queried in the same manner. This behaviour can be overridden by specifying
different bindings at object construction or by registering associations
with the class. See "register_associations()" and "new()".

One of the more important goals of this module is to enable the design of
consistent and predictable interfaces to incompatible whois response
formats. The Whois RFC (954) does not define a template for presenting
server data; consequently there is a large variation in layout styles as
well as content served across servers.

there was some discussion on d-d about changing the boot messages
to show status without having to read everything.
well, on many machines this is not neccessary:
there already is an area of the screen which can be used for it:
when using framebuffer, the first 80 rows are not used for text display,
but only for the linux logo. that area can be used to show boot status

Description: Display boot progress using graphical icons
This Package modifies the boot progress to show small graphics
in the non-scrolling area of the screen (at the top, next to
 the Linux penguin).
 .
For this to work, it needs kernel-level framebuffer support.

upstream author is me, license is gpl, testpackage is at
http://people.debian.org/~tali/

i don't want to include this package in woody!
some bugs (in other packages) need to be resolved first.

comments?

ah, yes: the icons provided by this package are sub-optimal,
feel free to create better ones and send them to me ;)

Description : Set of methods to perform XML processing on Zope objects

ZopeXMLMethods consists of a set of methods that can be applied to Zope
objects to perform various types of XML processing. In general each type
of method is applied to a Zope object in the same manner that a standard
DTML Method or Python Script might be applied. The only requirement for
the source Zope object is that it must somehow produce XML. Currently,
this XML must be in ASCII or UNICODE form, but in the future additional
formats such as DOM or SAX events will be supported. ZopeXMLMethods
includes a Cache Manager that is specialized to notice changes to the
XML source files and to store cached contents in files in the
filesystem, rather than the Zope object database.

Description : Easily create test classes in an xUnit style

Test::Class from CPAN provides a simple way of creating classes
and objects to test your code in an xUnit style. It is built using
Test::Builder it is designing to work with other Test::Builder based
 modules (Test::More, Test::Differences, Test::Exception, etc.)

This is a very useful testing class and should be helpful in
the general perl QA effort as more and more CPAN modules are
 creating Perl tests for themselves.

The module will be available within about a half an hour of this

Description : Perl module to make accessing XML documents trivial

This module is designed to make accessing accessing an XML document
rather trivial. You don't need to understand the DOM, you don't need to
even know what SAX is, all you need to know is how an XML document
is structured and how to program with objects (OOP).

XML::EasyOBJ takes each tag in your XML file and magically converts it
to a method name. =20

  Description : Advanced Bash-Scripting Guide

David Lawyer of the Linux Documentation Project asked me recently if we
could distribute the Advanced Bash-Scripting Guide with Debian. I can
knock something together if need be, but I have a lot of other stuff to
do. Is anybody interested?

As far as the "LDP License" bit goes, the "Copyright" chapter says:

The "Advanced Bash-Scripting Guide" is copyright, (c) 2000, by Mendel
Cooper. This document may only be distributed subject to the terms and
conditions set forth in the LDP License These are very liberal terms,
and they should not hinder any legitimate distribution or use of this
document. The author especially encourages the use of this document,
or portions thereof, for instructional purposes.

"LDP License" is a link to http://www.linuxdoc.org/manifesto.html, which
is more along the lines of the DFSG than a specific licence. It doesn't
require licences to allow modification of the documents, so whoever
packages this should probably contact Mendel Cooper and ask for a
clarification of this.

Cheers,

Description : OCaml lexer generator with Unicode support

ulex is a lexer genereator for the Objective Caml (OCaml) programming
 language.
 .
It is implemented as a Camlp4 syntax extension: lexer specifications
are embedded in regular OCaml code.
 .
Generated lexers work with a new kind of "lexbuf" that supports
Unicode; a single lexer can work with arbitrary encodings of the input
 stream.

and my debian package for it:

I'm in the process of being Debian developer (I'm waiting
for an AM), and I have some debian developers that can
sponsor this package for me.

Description : Perl extension for manipulating IPv4/IPv6 addresses

This package contains the Net::IP module, which provides functions
to deal with IPv4/IPv6 addresses. The module can be used as a class,
allowing the user to instantiate IP objects, which can be single IP
addresses, prefixes, or ranges of addresses. There is also a procedural
way of accessing most of the functions. Most subroutines can take either
 IPv4 or IPv6 addresses transparently.

I planned to package this module because the next version of the
w3c-markup-validator (currently in beta) requires it. Actually, the
libnetaddr-ip-perl package seems to offer the same kind of functionality,
but it seemed much easier to package the tiny libnet-ip-perl rather than
forking the validator.

The package is already available on http://www.mathgen.ch/debian/unstable
if anyone is interested. If noone has any complaint about the ITP or the
package itself, I'm looking for a sponsor who can upload it -- thanks in
advance !

Bug#214392: ITA: wmclock -- A dockable clock applet for Window Maker

2003-10-06 Thread Romain Francoise
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2003-10-06
Severity: normal

Hi,

I intend to adopt the wmclock package. It is not orphaned per se, but
given the following facts I think it's up for adoption:

- according to debian/changelog, the package has had three uploads; two
were sponsored Maintainer Uploads and the last is a NMU by Branden
Robinson which fixed an (obvious) FTBFS bug. This last NMU happened
on Wed, 18 Jul 2001 and was never acknowledged.
- the current maintainer was in the NM queue but withdrew his
  application in 2001.[1]
- the package is in poor shape, to say the least: it claims localization
but doesn't ship with the right files and has a stupid y2k-compliance
bug which was never fixed even though a patch is attached[2]. All in
all, the package is the barely edited result of a dh_make run.

I have tried to contact the current maintainer but didn't get a reply
(yet?). Given that he never reapplied to the NM process and never even
fixed the bugs in wmclock, I don't think he'll be willing to keep this
package. Branden Robinson who last NMUed the package isn't willing to
maintain it either.

I have prepared a new package which fixes all the bugs and is in
conformance with nowadays standards, I would like to see it in Sarge, so
I'll wait 2 or 3 days more and upload it, unless someone objects. If
you know the whereabouts of the previous maintainer (Szabolcs Horvath
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>), please tell me.

Thanks,

spinner sends small packets (null packets or a fancy ASCII spin
fan with motion) to keep a link up.
 .

I do not think so. libSDL is not available on hurd-i386. Keith, why
didn't you contact me before filing this bug? I Cc:ed all the O: bugs

I fixed all current bugs but I do not want to adopt a non-free
package. I have started collecting DFSG-free sound files to replace
the ones in abuse-sfx, but I am not doing very well because there are
few sources for such data. If Keith really wants the packages, I'll
leave them to him and contribute my sound files later. I just want
Abuse to become free and stay maintained.

Bug#199546: O: abuse -- Crack dot Com's Abuse action game

2003-10-06 Thread Keith Dunwoody (S. Wolthusen)

Hi,

Sam can have it, as far as I'm concerned. I have a patch which fixes
abuse-sdl to compile under gcc 3.3 (it doesn't work with abuse-frabs
when compiled under gcc 3.3). The issues addressed in this bug may or
may not be the cause of the other bugs on non-386 architectures, but I
don't have access to the appropriate architectures to test them on.. I
also have a (trivial) documentation patch which fixes one of the other
bugs. You might also want to update abuse-lib to include the full
version of the data files, since these have since been released into the
public domain. The sound effects are still non-public domain, and thus
must remain in non-free. The original author of abuse speculated that
the author of the sound effects might be willing to release them under a
free license, which I havn't followed up on. Otherwise you might be
able to pull in the sound effects from abuse-frabs, but you'd have to
check that these arn't the original sounds with the author of frabs just
being slopy about copyright issues.

-- Keith

P.S. abuse-sdl already works on non-8bpp displays, which is why I
figured we could safely remove abuse. I appologize for not getting in
touch with Sam, I didn't notice he'd expressed interest.

Bug #202384 - ftp.debian.org: Please remove abuse

Sender: Keith Dunwoody <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
As indicated by the previous maintainer's comments the abuse package
has been obseleted by abuse-sdl. I intend to adopt the other
abuse-related packages (abuse-sdl abuse-lib abuse-sfx abuse-frabs), but
think that abuse should be removed instead.

So who is going to adopt it, and when? Both of you expressed interest
in July.

Bug#214408: ITP: fastdep -- fast dependency generator for C/C++ files

2003-10-06 Thread Zenaan Harkness
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: fastdep
  Version : 0.15
  Upstream Author : Bart Vanhauwaert <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.irule.be/bvh/c++/fastdep/
* License : (GPL)
Description : fast dependency generator for C/C++ files

The suggestion in the GNU make info file uses gcc -MM on each (possibly)
changed file even before compilation starts. Unfortunatly gcc is really
slow. Generating dependencies with fastdep is (at least should be) an
order of magnitude faster than using gcc. Written in C++ with a
handoptimized parser for just the preproccesor tokens, it's no surprise
fastdep is fast. Besides that it processes multiple source files at
once. When doing so fastdep parses every header file exactly one time
and keeps an in memory structure of it.

The debian/control file lists it as gtodo, the uppercase letters were

Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2003-10-06
Severity: normal

Hi,

I intend to adopt the wmclock package. It is not orphaned per se, but
given the following facts I think it's up for adoption:

=2D according to debian/changelog, the package has had three uploads; two
were sponsored Maintainer Uploads and the last is a NMU by Branden
Robinson which fixed an (obvious) FTBFS bug. This last NMU happened
on Wed, 18 Jul 2001 and was never acknowledged.
=2D the current maintainer was in the NM queue but withdrew his
  application in 2001.[1]
=2D the package is in poor shape, to say the least: it claims localization
but doesn't ship with the right files and has a stupid y2k-compliance
bug which was never fixed even though a patch is attached[2]. All in
all, the package is the barely edited result of a dh_make run.

Thanks,

Description : .NET binding for CORBA

Bug#214489: ITP: trang -- Multi-format schema converter based on RELAX NG

2003-10-06 Thread Chris Lawrence
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: trang
  Version : 20030619
  Upstream Author : James Clark <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.thaiopensource.com/relaxng/trang.html
* License : BSD (with some Apache-licensed parts)
Description : Multi-format schema converter based on RELAX NG

Trang converts between different schema languages for XML. It
 supports the following languages:
 .
  * RELAX NG (XML syntax)
  * RELAX NG compact syntax
  * XML 1.0 Document Type Definitions (DTDs)
  * W3C XML Schema
 .
A schema written in any of the supported schema languages can be
converted into any of the other supported schema languages, except
that W3C XML Schema is supported for output only, not for input.
 .
Trang can also infer a schema from one or more example XML documents.
 .
Trang is constructed around an RELAX NG object model designed to
support schema conversion. For each schema language supported for
input, there is an input module that can convert from the schema
language into this internal object model. Similarly, for each schema
language supported for output, there is an output module that can
convert from the internal object model in the schema language.
 .
Trang aims to produce human-understandable schemas; it tries for a
translation that preserves all aspects of the input schema that may
be significant to a human reader, including the definitions, the way
the schema is divided into files, annotations and comments.
 .
This package may be particularly useful for converting DTDs for use
with nxml-mode, as that package requires RELAX NG schemas for the
full features of its context-sensitive editing functions to be
 available.
