If they do so I believe we need to petition SourceForge to drop WineX as
clearly not even kinda free. I for one don't think they should be getting
a free ride when it comes to stuff that can't even be packaged by the
various distributions.

I would call for such a petition now, except that Transgaming is still
effectively pretending their license allows redistribution.

Bug#148032: ITP: ksetisaver -- KDE screensaver frontend for the Linux seti@home client

* Package name: ksetisaver
  Version : 0.2.7
  Upstream Author : Sebastian Schildt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.frozenlight.de/
* License : GPL
  Description : KDE screensaver frontend for the Linux [EMAIL PROTECTED]
client

(Include the long description here.)

 The [EMAIL PROTECTED] project offers two different types of clients: A client
 with a graphical GUI and a pure command line client. Unfortunately for
 Linux there's only a command client available. The command line client
 is quite fast compared to the Windows GUI version, but in my opinion WU
 crunching is much more fun when you can look on some cool graphics from
 time to time to really "see" what you are doing. Ok, this is the point
 where KSetiSaver kicks in: It acts as a normal screensaver for KDE.
 When it is launched it starts monitoring a [EMAIL PROTECTED] client. KSetiSaver
 is also able to launch setiathome. That means [EMAIL PROTECTED] is only active,
 when the screensaver is. This way you get the same behaviour liuke you
 would with the Windows GUI client!

GOO is a dynamic, type-based, object-oriented language in the same
family as Dylan and Scheme. It is designed to be simple, productive,
powerful, extensible, dynamic, efficient, and real-time.

It's main goal is to offer the best of both scripting and delivery
languages, while at the same time incorporating an extreme
back-to-basics philosophy.

Brent Fulgham was maintaining the package unofficially for a while. I
intend (with his permission) to take it over from him.

I no longer have time to maintain this package. Bigloo needs a number of
issues resolved:
* working around the build system to get all the utilities working
* getting shared libraries to work correctly
* separating the runtime from the compiler, which I did, but imperfectly
* dealing with the slightly different GC-boehm library

Please email if interested

Package: wnpp
Version: n/a

I'd like to suggest making a package for OpenVPN 1.1
(http://openvpn.sourceforge.net/). OpenVPN is a VPN program with a
custom protocol that runs over UDP. It utilizes OpenSSL and the tun
device. Except for access to the tun device, it requires no further
privileges, works accross firewalls and NAT, and is trimmed for both
fault-tolerance and maximum security. I use it successfully to tunnel
traffic between my Linux box (running Debian potato w/ a custom
kernel that has tun support) and my Mac OS X laptop. Compiling it on
the Debian machine worked out of the box.

  Description : Molecular Graphics System
PyMOL is a molecular graphics system with an embedded Python interpreter
designed for real-time visualization and rapid generation of
high-quality molecular graphics images and animations. It is fully
extensible and available free to everyone via the "Python" license.
Although a newcomer to the field, PyMOL can already be used to generate
stunning images and animations with unprecedented ease. It can also
perform many other valuable tasks (such as editing PDB files) to assist
you in your research.

cheers,

Michael

User documentation (tutorial and reference manual) of the HeVeA
LaTeX-to-HTML translator.

The "Free Document Dissemination Licence" is enclosed below.
It seems to me to be too restrictive on modifications (clause 2), hence
this package will go into non-free.

Free Document Dissemination Licence -- FDDL version 1

   This document may be freely read, stored, reproduced, disseminated,
   translated or quoted by any means and on any medium provided the
   following conditions are met:

 * every reader or user of this document acknowledges that he his
   aware that no guarantee is given regarding its contents, on any
   account, and specifically concerning veracity, accuracy and
   fitness for any purpose;
 * no modification is made other than cosmetic, change of
   representation format, translation, correction of obvious
   syntactic errors, or as permitted by the clauses below;
 * comments and other additions may be inserted, provided they
   clearly appear as such; translations or fragments must clearly
   refer to an original complete version, preferably one that is
   easily accessed whenever possible;
 * translations, comments and other additions must be dated and
 * their
   author(s) must be identifiable (possibly via an alias);
 * this licence is preserved and applies to the whole document with
   modifications and additions (except for brief quotes),
   independently of the representation format;
 * whatever the mode of storage, reproduction or dissemination,
   anyone able to access a digitized version of this document must
   be
   able to make a digitized copy in a format directly usable, and if
   possible editable, according to accepted, and publicly
   documented,
   public standards;
 * redistributing this document to a third party requires
   simultaneous redistribution of this licence, without
   modification,
   and in particular without any further condition or restriction,
   expressed or implied, related or not to this redistribution. In
   particular, in case of inclusion in a database or collection, the
   owner or the manager of the database or the collection renounces
   any right related to this inclusion and concerning the possible
   uses of the document after extraction from the database or the
   collection, whether alone or in relation with other documents.

   Any incompatibility of the above clauses with legal, contractual or
   judiciary decisions or constraints implies a corresponding limitation
   of reading, usage, or redistribution rights for this document,

Bug#140103: Alliance in debian?

2002-05-24 Thread Martin Samuelsson
Alliance team,

I'm a debian user who recently found your software. Beeing a user I'm more
interested in using software than compiling and setting it up.

As noted in Debian's bug tracking system there is interest in including
alliance in the distribution but it's stalled because of questions about how
you are licensing it.

As seen on the webpage at http://bugs.debian.org/140103 you were contacted
about this on the second of April this year.

Do you have any intentions to sort out this minor issue?

I'm sending a carbon copy to the debian bts to keep debian folks updated.

Bug#148047: RFP: distcc -- a distributed C compiler

2002-05-24 Thread Cristian Ionescu-Idbohrn
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2002-05-24
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: distcc
  Version : 0.2
  Upstream Author : Martin Pool <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://samba.org/~mbp/distcc/
* License : GPL
  Description : a distributed C compiler

distcc is a program to distribute compilation of C code across several
machines on a network. distcc should always generate the same results
as a local compile, is simple to install and use, and is often
significantly faster than a local compile.

Unlike other distributed build systems, distcc does not require all
machines to share a filesystem, have synchronized clocks, or to have
the same libraries or header files installed.

distcc sends the complete preprocessed source code across the network
for each job, so all it requires of the volunteer machines is that
they be running the distccd daemon, and that they have an appropriate
compiler installed.

distcc is designed to be used with GNU make's parallel-build feature
(-j). Shipping files across the network takes time, but few cycles on
the client machine. Any files that can be built remotely are
essentially "for free" in terms of client CPU.

distcc is quite new but has successfully compiled the Linux kernel,
rsync, Samba and Ethereal, sometimes over twice as fast as a single
machine.

Bug#148069: ITP: pimppa -- powerful tool to loot binaries from newsgroups smartly

2002-05-24 Thread Grzegorz Prokopski
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2002-05-24
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: pimppa
  Version : 0.5.6
  Upstream Author : Igor Wronsky ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
* URL : http://pimppa.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL
  Description : powerful tool to loot binaries from newsgroups smartly

PIMPPA is a tool to loot binaries from newsgroups and ftp sites. It
tries to achieve complete "hands free" operation where possible. The
system is best suited for the Connoisseur, the Collector and the
Worshipper of the Mighty Crond. Its not very useful for the inferior
minions of the trendy interactive.
.
Current features:
 * Attempts to skip duplicates and spam before downloading actual
   messages.
 * Further duplicate discarding based on filenames & MD5 checksums.
 * Intelligent multipart handling, downloads only complete postings.
 * Supports multiple newsservers.
 * Filename-based sorting of accepted files to proper directories.
 * Can be used to hunt known file series or extensions and skip the rest.
 * Supports automatic file integrity testing and transformation.
 * Several tools and scripts for file maintenance and viewing.
 * Knowledge is kept in SQL database, making it relatively easy for you
   to write your own custom scripts and utilities.
 * Cronable: come back next week to check the filtered catch.
 * Optional Gnome GUI.
 * It's free! - GPL'ed Open Source.
.
Downsides (its not perfect)
 * Software requirements. We call them formidable.
 * Installation and use. You might actually have to read some of the
   documentation.

Note from the submitter: I know that there are some other tools
that do similar things (or seem to do - for someone not familiar with
pimppa). But I have not found any free tool that does nearly what and
how it is done by pimmpa.

BTW: It uses MySQL, suck and uudeview.

interfaces for scheduler-related parameters such as CPU affinity and
real-time attributes. The standard UNIX utilities do not provide support
for these interfaces -- thus this package.

The programs that are included in this package are taskset, irqset,
lsrt, and rt. Together with nice and renice (not included), they allow
full control of process scheduling parameters. Suggestions for related
utilities are welcome, although it is believed (barring new interfaces)
that all scheduling interfaces are covered.

Package already prepared, you can find them at:

Bug#148079: ITP: elscreen -- GNU screen like multiplexor for Emacs

2002-05-24 Thread OHASHI Akira
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2002-05-25
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I intend to package elscreen.

* Package name: elscreen
  Version : 1.2.2
  Upstream Author : Naoto Morishima <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : ftp://ftp.morishima.net/pub/morishima.net/naoto/ElScreen/
* License : GPL
  Description : GNU screen like multiplexor for Emacs

If you use emacs-lisp applications which have many windows(like Gnus,
irchat, Wanderlust, mew...) ElScreen makes it easy to switch to a
different screen, with its configuration unchanged. You can also create
and kill screen, jump to them, rename the screen, and so on.

I think you're a little late on this ITP. Bug #103471 was filed months
ago by Daniel Stone, and you can see the current packages done by the
Apache2 team (not sure who this team currently consists of other than
thom) at the following URL:

http://non-us.debian.org/~thom/apache2/

AFAIK, these packages are expected to be uploaded to Unstable any day
(week?) now.

  Description : An ICQ2000/2001 C++ library

 libicq2000 is an opensource C++ library being developed to support the
 icq2000/2001 protocol. It is easy for developers to use as the backbone
 for their clients' connection to the ICQ network - all the protocol
 work is abstracted away in a nice object-orientated interface.
